In a typical scenario, the scammers pull up beside the target - often at traffic lights - and begin spruiking home audio equipment at bargain basement prices, which they say has "fallen off the back of a truck" or is available through some warehousing error.
The equipment is billed as being made by a premium brand and the targets are led to believe they have stumbled upon a once-in-a-lifetime bargain.
The scammers, who use high-pressure sales tactics, jargon and fake documentation, then instruct the buyers to meet them a short distance away where they exchange the poor quality goods for money.
But when the consumers take the equipment home they often find the goods are of the lowest quality and often do not work at all.

If people are still falling for this bollocks, they probably deserve it. I have no sympathy for idiocy. This is just the same as stupid people who fall for 419 scams; there is an old adage that suits perfectly here: If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
This crap was happening 3 years ago..
LOL my mate's brother bought a full boston acoustic's system worth the lovely price of 4999 for1200 a few year's ago i just laughed hahaha
Eureka styles!
HOLY ****ING SHIT!
I was out with the wife on sydney road a while ago (I think looking at car dealerships) and a white van pulled up and said exactly that, it fell of the back of a truck and it was really cheap. Told them no and they drove off quickly but I was too shocked to think of getting the licence plates.
My thoughts weren't about the product but my own safety (could have pulled a knife, robbed us, made us get in etc.). Guess it's actually brilliant to target people walking around an area with a lot of car dealerships because they could have cash on them or be able to get cash to purchase a car...
Still amazed when I read that thread title, thought it was an isolated incident.
Yeah they come out at Christmas time quite a lot. When I used to work at the local shopping center as a trolley boy as a kid I used to get them come up to me all the time.
Dumb bastards approached me in a shopping centre car park about four years ago, when the scam was running hot. They must think nobody reads papers or watches the news. Told them to take their speakers and F*** off. Wifey was not impressed with my language but I resented being taken for a sucker by two goons who wouldn't know me from Adam.....
Didn't bother with rego plates - they wouldn't have matched the vehicle (white van, of course) anyway.
wow, this is huge. Last year I was at Boronia shopping center (coles and a scatter of other shops) and a white van with two drongo looking blokes in it pulled up next to me offering me a home theater surround sound system for $500
I was kind of broke and not feeling well and just wanted to go the the chemist (It was around lunch time and I was taking a sick day) so I said no and walked across the road to the cop shop and dobbed them in :P I saw them pull into maccas so I said thats the last place I had seen them at.
I hope the police caught them.
I guess this keeps proving that there is still quite a few stupid f***ers around without a clue. I dont know about you lot, but I wish the silly buggers buying the gear the best of luck. It is after all them that ensures my job security so well![]()
ive been approached twice, once was on the side of the street and they had a $800 system that I shouldnt even think about passing up.
A few days later they come up to me again, as mentioned, at a set of lights. I was in one of the work Jaguars so firstly I thought "fark about to get car jacked here". They shouted through the closed window that its now its a $1500 system, and someone who can afford a Jag cant afford to miss this opportunity"
... ah yeh rightio buddy![]()
haha, like anyone who could afford a Jag would be buying goods out of the back of a van, unless all that scraping and saving is how they bought the bloody jag.
Mmmm I've seen this sort of thing in Melbourne and Sydney... very common

This is news? It happens every day!
Just substitute "white van" for "Strathfield Car Radios"![]()
its always a white hi-ace van.....
never cleaned either.
WHEN WILL THEY LEARN!![]()
At least your scammers actually give you the product.
The ones that strike the BP Truckstop at Wingy meet you, take your money and say 'right we'll go get the stuff now', obviously they don't come back!
Same deal, if people are stupid enough to meet people like this, they shouldn't be allowed a bank account!
