For the while ive been driving, every, and i will hold myself to it, EVERY SINGLE TAXI i have seen has been going faster than me when im doing the speed limit, i always thought that they probably thought they were above the law, that all changed 3 wks ago when i saw one pulled over by a cop car. What your guys thoughts?
Yes they speed. They make money per trip. They don't make any money between fares.
I've seen plenty on the wrong side of the law, so it works out eventually

Weekend before last, we went home from the city in a cab, 6 on a sun morning, he was doing 110 up Magill road! He also had his mix tape in which was like hit machine 14 or something, ronan keating, back street boys etc.
On another note, sunday arvo just gone, one rear ended me in Norwood at food and wine festival, 1100 worth of damage to my SS, faggot!!
I've been in a 1998 (the old ones) VW beetle green and white/silver taxi doing 140km/h through heavy traffic on the freeway in Mexico city. (with no seatbelts) fun.... Kinda. Scary... a bit

The taxi company sub contracts the drivers, they don't actually employ the drivers or own the cars.
The guy that hit me doesn't own the car, he drives it for some one else, who is the guy contracted by the cabbing company.
I can see this being a headache and a half, plus the dude hardly understands anything.
You dont have to watch out for the Taxis at the airport, just the car rental employees lol![]()
They always go fast when they don't have a fare but seem to go slow when they do.
I've been in taxis where the driver was speeding and also let us drink and smoke in there.. and another one took 5 of us when the car only had a maximim of 4.
They speed when no one is in the car
I notice the same with bus drivers, some of the guys on the roads down here are terrible, not to mention they think they can just pull out of a bus stop without indicating expecting you to swerve out of their way because your beside them(yes I am aware we must give way, but you can't give way when they do not know what an indicator is).

I've only ever seen them speed, until tonight when coming home from work. He was dawdling along at about 45-50kph (60 zone). Cripes he was cheesing me off. Didn't help that he kept veering onto the wrong side of the road too.
At first I thought he might be driving a drunk home and so wasn't speeding cause he didn't want to clean up the spew, but after seeing him swerve around everywhere I think he'd been on the turps as well.![]()

I used to see a lot of taxis speeding, going back 5 years or so. Nowdays I rarely see a taxi more than 5-10km over the limit (most at or under it) - I don't see them speeding as a big problem.
My biggest gripe with taxis is 1) they almost all seem to have the habit of cutting into other lanes while going round corners, and 2) there seems to be less respect for other road users, so they'll happily queue jump, bully their way into other lanes and generally drive aggressively and carelessly.
I can understand if you're driving hours and hours each day how you'd end up like that, but it would be nice if professional drivers showed a little professionalism. I must say HC cars are much better behaved by comparison. Guess it goes to show the standards aren't that high to be a taxi driver - the number of taxis with TomToms on the dash these days is fair proof of that I think.
Yes they speed, and they're arrogant turds to go with it some of them. Cut you off at the drop of a hat.
Pretty sure it goes up based on some formula involving both time and distance traveled and also the rate (# of passengers in the cab).
Ever noticed you sit at a red light and see the meter climb? and feel ripped off.
I have often had drivers that keep the rate as one or two even with a large group of us
All in all taxi drivers are generally very obnoxious and aggressive drivers. Gotta be something to do with the aimless driving around backstreets

If it's to expensive or they are all assholes use ya legs or arrange a lift/pick-up.
How's about talking to them and dropping the arrogance? Might even find they will turn off the meter closer to the destination. Talk cricket they love it!
Bloody oath they speed. A few years ago, I asked one to pull over as I prefered to walk then be in a car with him, I said I wasnt paying the fair because I did not feel safe, after a bit of argueing and he threatened to involve the police, and my response was fine, I havent done anything wrong, he eventually Sped off. Why did I ask him to pull over? It was pissing down rain, going through a 20km/h zone (near a mall) and he was doing 80km/h with me and 3 girls in the car, not a ****ing chance in hell anyone is doing that with people I care about in the car, and I sure aint paying some ****er to put my life in danger.
I spent last night in bendigo, and I must say there response time is unbelievable, first call they were no more then 2 minutes (from outer bendigo), second call was about 40 seconds from the same place. They did speed but nothing stupid and when it was just me he did answer a phone that had been left in the car, but didnt phase me there quick response impressed to much to care about little things and quality service, though he did take me a ****ing long way back to my motel.
The problem is most of them dont own the cab or are not directly responsible for the fuel use or the repairs on the vehicle.
Result they drive like idiots. You'll see them doing U turns(in busy streets with no u turn signs) and just bounce over the kerb, rather than turn it into a 3 pointer.
I hate getting in them, they tailgate, keep driving hard up to red lights and brake at the last possible moment, my knuckles go white!
Yeh, they dont speed as much because eventually they'll get pinned and lose their licence.
when in melbourne, just cruise along on the airport exit, if they speed up, you speed up. if they slow down, you slow down.
because its a bloody long drive to turn around.
