What's your opinion on it, has anyone taken one for a drive?
And, For the warrenty do i have to get holden to service the car for the warrenty to be valid?
If you are after a vehicle like that, don't get it just because its a Holden.
The company I worked for just purchased 4 new Hilux's for our contract work up in iron ore mines. The general consensus is that the Hilux is the most durable vehicle, with the Patrol coming in second.
Go for proven toughness.
it exactly the same, as the previous rodeo just with a different front end body line and tailgate, the whole reason the rodeo was changed to colorado was isuzu wanted to bring the rodeo shape in for them to sell as the d-max, so consequently isuzu ramped the price for it up to keep the name/shape the same, so hence now colorado with a different front and built in a different factory, but still made from isuzu parts,
to drive, it would be second in power wise to the d40 navara, ford ranger/bt-50 would be 3rd power wise and hilux would be last for power, in the diesel range,
colorado/d-max have a softer front end to the hilux/ranger/bt-50 which make for good cruising but can become wollowy after a year or two, hilux/ranger/bt-50 etc are stiffer in the front so it makes for a more sporty drive,
in the v6 range, the hilux wins in the power department hands down, but they are a loud, extremely thirsty and horrible sounding engine, the colorado alloytec is smooth, but power seems restained, much better on fuel than a v6 hilux, d-max, ranger,bt-50 are all diesel only
toughness wise between the ford/mazda, isuzu/holden would all about equal, i also seem to think the hilux would have the weakest body structure considering it can only tow 2250kg and every other ute toes 3000kg,
at work weve been noticing quality issue in the last year with toyota,
if you can justify the extra money to buy a hilux for a name, buy one, but id be seriously looking at the ford ranger / isuzu d-max

i'd get the isuzu over the rebadged holden version.
and NO, you dont have to service it at Holden to keep your warranty.
so long as its serviced by the book, it doesnt matter who services it - you could even get Ford to do it if you so wished.
except for the front of it they look the same as the v6 rodeo that i used to have.
fuel consumption was terrible. best i ever got out of it was 18 l/100km average was almost 20 l/100km.maybe they improved when they started putting the alloytec engine in,i don't know
other issues were the plastic on the steering column would rub when turning only a minor thing but extremely annoying.
and the drivers door hinge would squeak and click also very annoying.
i wouldn't buy another one
if thats the tf's or the early ra with the 6vd1 / 6ve1's yeah thats about right, the alloytec in the later ones give economy like a commodore,
the my08 rodeo (the squared up front like isuzu version) are really good, we have one as our work ute, bit better than the vy tonner before it, then they went to the colorado after about 6 months

Also many accessories arent available yet on the D Max (not genine anyway of course theres aftermarket stuff because the Rodeo stuff bolts straight up) so if you plan on having stuff thrown in at the sale thats cool BUT be prepared to wait
lol people like me do that, look at my books and its got Porsche Center and BMW dealer stampsit doesnt matter who services it - you could even get Ford to do it if you so wished.![]()

the 2wd dmax single cab is spose to get 1400 k's out of a 75 litre tank of fuel on the highway.... i highly doubt it wuld cos the maximum dads twin cab colorado got was 8.5 litres per hundred on the highway..... big difference between the two fuel usages for little difference with the body of the car
I wouldnt buy one in my honest opinion the Ford Ranger / Mazda BT50 is 100 times better i work at both a Holden and Ford Dealership and Deal with them both on regular basis. Living were i live we have customers that live on stations and on Huge Fruit frams (mango and Peanuts) and the Rodeo / Colorado just doesnt stack up.
The Ranger XLT is the way to go we sold 15 to the govt that have swapped them from Hilux's for un known reasons.
The torque that the ranger makes is unreal and is avail in both 5 speed man and 5 speed auto.
I definatly wouldnt buy a new 4x4 with out driving one.

i work as a mechanic for council, the whole reason theyve swapped hiluxs to the rangers is $$$, as a fleet manager told me, they can almost buy 2 rangers for the price of 1 hilux, as our work ute weve got a kitted up extra cab 4x4 ranger funnily enough our last ute was a hilux
and seannatt, i dont know if youve seen it but the quality of the new hilux's is piss poor, last year i sent back hilux's for these issues (all seperate cars) that i can remember,
-water pump(diesel)
-seat base fell apart
-wheels cracked
-wheel bearings
-3x transfer case output shaft seals
-2x diesels have cronic miss in the engine
havnt sent these back but a few have loud as valvetrain noise v6's and ive noticed the chassis seem to be develping rust around joins and welds, but i dont know if this is caused by lack of paint/protection or not being cleaned properly after its shipping from overseas,
our tip has a dual cab ranger with 16,000km its 2nd set of tyres, it has no problems besides a few interior rattles and fuel hoses that rats have chewed but if you can image what driving around a tip environment does/can do to a car, youd know that after it 80,000km without problems means its a tough car,
imo, after seeing and working, hiluxs definetly not worth the premium,
