sony bravia is way over-rated, get a samsung 42" or a panasonic 42"
They lead in plasma and LCD.
Do you car if its LCD or plasma?
I find plasma to be better.

from what i have heard the KOGAN ones are meant to be really good. The had the CEO on That chan 2 inventors show a while back. All the parts are quality parts, but they have very little over heads as they have no shop fronts etc and only deal over the internet. My Aunt and Uncle bought one 2 weeks ago, the 37" and i was very skeptical but the quality of the image is very good. There was a sound vibration that i tracked down to the casing on the TV, it was rattling so i just took the back case off for them when i was around there. Thats the only problem.

I work retail, i personally find Sonys a better picture with much better quality than most others. Samsung run second in the race though. Especially with LCD. If you go Plasma there is pretty much only Panasonic that make good ones. And DON'T go for the Vivo ones, they are pure crap, resolution is absoltuly shocking... even a Sanyo plasma beats it.

However, if you have a bit of money to spend think about an LED TV. This technology is taking over LCD's now, and addresses the only issue LCD's had under plasma (not true black colour generated). These TV's will make the LCD obsolete straight away, and will take over plasma within a few years. Well, sales people in stores will tell you otherwise because they want to sell what they've got first then goto sell those. But they are definatly awesome TV's!

The new 200hz Sony Bravia is by far the best LCD TV on the market. It has more displayable colors, sharper resolution & highest refresh rate of any LCD on the market.
If they have the money they can not go wrong with buying one.

Value for money Panasonic then LG or Samsung as far as quality products go.

With LCD TVs check the viewing angle most cheaper TVs have very poor viewing angles left to right top to bottom. Also check the availability of HDMI ports plus composite & component. Although composite wont give the definition in the picture it is still handy to have 1 or 2 inputs to connect things like digital cameras to it.

    cheers
    Scott

My sister bought the 200 hz Bravia, and its one the of the best looking I have seen. Sharp look good as well.

Another one that caught my eye was Loewe, a German brand. You can find them in David Jones I think. Very pricey but impressive. Loewe also make the LCD panels for Sharp.

    Samsung = fail.

They rush their products out without refining them enough. They often have "interesting" features, which don't fully work, are esoteric and incompatible with other equipment, and generally the interfaces are clunky and unfriendly. I've had a Samsung rear-projection, LCD, HDD/DVD recorder, mobile phones, they all follow this pattern.

Only thing in their favour is they are cheap.

I got a 37" panasonic lcd not long back. It's serving me well. I liked the panasonic models and they had the better looking EPG etc.

That was about all that made my decision. I was going to buy 32 and they only had 37 in stock. That plus GE card equals instant purchase.

You will find it's the reverse. Loewe don't make LCD panels, Sharp would make them. There are very few manufacturers who actually make the panels because the facility has to be extremely high spec. Samsung is one of the largest.

Loewe have a long history in Home theatre, but not LCD panels.

You have to remember its not just the panel that defines the quality of the tv, the reason Sony is generally better regarded than Samsung LCDs is due to the Bravia engine. S-LCD is the name of the joint venture between Samsung and Sony that produce LCD panels, although word has it Sony are now looking for a joint venture with Sharp instead.

Hahahahahaha Dude that sounds abit like Microsoft...

As for TV's we have a 106cm LG LCD. We have had it coming upto a Year now and never had a problem with it. Great features within it as well. These guys have it prity spot on... maybe do a Poll and see what comes back from that Then go from there.

    Cheers

I just brought a 42" Panasonic Full HD Plasma (paid $2000), think it's awesome. I've only had Plasmas because a uni student can't afford a good LCD :P I was on holiday in europe and they only use LCD's ... rarely do you see a plasma (which I thought was weird)... reason for getting Plasma over LCD was the blacks... I like my horrors etc which are mainly in blackness XD

I also just bought a Samsung 32" 4-series television. In my mind, it's the best LCD TV that's within my budget and I am very happy with it so far. Good great quality picture for a very affordable price.
