Schapelle Corby
I think we all agree that the decision sucks, and that bali deserves to be 'given hell' for punishment to what they've put Schapelle through.
But they are using her as an example, think about it, woman from australia, with a letter from the government practially saying the bagage handlers did it, no hard prior convictions etc. So a very soft case and gets 20 years for possession. If they let her off imagine the people that would try and get drugs into the country. They are using her as a warning, it's not fair on Schapelle, and it's not fair on the Australian people.
I've heard of this boycot which people are talking about and I totally agree, tell bali that they are .... [you can use your imagination to guess that word], and we should have nothing to do with them, and if our government helps them well, that's the point that i'll loose respect for them too...
I just think this is stupid, I think she's innocent, and the bali justice system deserves to be shot!
Well, there's my 2 cents...

If I had ever decided to visit Bali in the future, I'd already changed my mind to NEVER go there not long after she was first arrested.
You're exactly right - they ARE just using her as an example and it IS unfair. I don't believe she's guilty - she's either innocent or she is magnificiently stupid. I don't believe she's that stupid, therefore she must be innocent. There's no logic in the decision.
But then, if you think about it - what would have happened if an Indonesian lady had rocked up at Sydney airport and had been caught with 4 kilos of pot in an unlocked bag? "It's not mine, I didn't put it there!" probably wouldn't work in that situation... So in some cases it's hard to know what to think.
But she's definitely being made an example of, and I honestly don't believe she's stupid enough to be guilty.

I don't think she's being made an example of at all. You's are all only seeing what the media wants you to see.
What about the Bali 9. They'll get death.
What about everyone else that has every been to Bali and gotten the Death Penalty.
Apparently not too long back some scrawny asian guy got publicly hung for less then what Schappelle has done. But we didn't see much about it. Because he wasn't a good looking female that cries all the time.
As harsh as this sounds. All I can say to her is unlucky. I've always been told from an early age that Indonesia is extremely strict on Drugs. It's there rules, its how they do things. People have to remember that everywhere isn't as leniant on people as Australia.
My mates recently went there. They all came back saying it was the best time they've had, and that they'll be going back. It's a very corrupt system over there, There is no denying that.
Everywhere I've read seems to have said the same point, its all political from Indonesia, how would you like to be running a country, and have Australia, or anyone else for that matter come in and say, no ... we do things differently at home, this isn't what you should do. Do this.

I really was hoping that she would be found innocent, not because I believe she is innocent, but because I am sick of hearing about her. Now shes gonna appeal and the prosecution is going to appeal and we will have to hear all the same crap the media circus come up with again.

I agree that justice has not been served in this case, and feel very sorry for her. Innocent or guilty, it's their justice system. Unfortunately that's the risk we make when we travel overseas.
But the people of Bali have gone through enough bad times lately from lack of Australian tourists without further boycots. It's not about the government or the legal system, it's about the residents who need our tourist dollars to maintain a living, how ever poor it may be.
Lock and check your luggage, and play it safe. Don't punish the people - it wasn't their decision.

How can you put a person in such a position of being chief judge and he can't speak ENGLISH and treats Foreigners with contempt whoever they are.
He sits and reads a book or sleeps or whatever while Schapelle gives her account ...what a hide .....his record with never giving not guilty...his record is still unbroken and I wonder how many people he has sent to the gallows that were innocent
Looking from a logical point of view that obviously the Indonesian don't:
Why would a person bring that amount of drugs into the country where they give the death penalty where in that country its easy to get anyway and if she was selling it would get less there than what it was worth in our Beloved country .
And in such an amount where you would always get found out.
There is no doubt she is innocent and I hate those type of drugs or people responsible in any form and it scares me that my children might come in contact and have to make a choice and hopefully the right one but they got the wrong person.

Very good post I agree completely with your reasons and it seems to me that the judge seems like nothing but a man who really enjoys his power.
The trail really gave me a lot of faith in our legal system, even though its definately not without faults. Perhaps the opposite, maybe at times too lenient. But that's only because of our strongly catholic base that the laws were created under in this country and the different beliefs in other countries.
I feel that with the aid given to Bali and the fact that they're crazed bombers were allowed to kill our innocent people and stood laughing in court should be enough of a reason to relook at their system and perhaps think of travelling somewhere else. That cheif Bomber guy got not even two or three years in jail for being responsible for killing hundreds.. hmmm..
Good riddance to her, I'm sure eventually she'll be brough home hopefully before 20 years. At least she definately has the aussie media on her side which is a damn good thing in our country.
Cheers,
Paul.

Of course theyre making an example of her. This is the same 'justice' system that sentenced a man - which they found guilty of organising and executing a plan to blow up a building full of Australians, killing 80 of us as a result - to 6 months imprisonment. 4kgs of pot, regardless of whether or not its hers is totally unrealistic to be sentenced for 20 years over.
They're either racist or have some other point to prove, she was a scapegoat from the beginning and I certainly will not be travelling to their country. I have absoloutely no confidence that this poor girl's own government will put any effort into helping her.

There are people stupid enough, and in hindsight trying to smuggle a 4kg bag of weed into Bali for most of us is just plain stupid, but for runners it obviously isnt. Schapelle has a believable case, it could have been planted. But for those other 9, after they had seen what happened to Schapelle, they walk into the country with it strapped to them? Stupid, maybe the Indonesians will shoot them just for being idiots.

True, but they were the ones who applauded when the decision was announced.
Maybe I'm a pessimist.

This may sound harsh, but it's time Australia stood up and let Indonesia know we have had a gutful of their treatment of us. They mock our way of life, they blow up places we go in Indonesia, they blow up our consulate, they hate the freedom we fought to have and our democracy. They are that stupid they build grass huts on the beach fronts, don't seem to have heard of the word "contraception" and yet hold their hand out for money from us, we the hard people who pay taxes to fix our roads and hospitals so they can rebuild their country whilst people die everyday on the Pacific highway and to get it made a dual carriage way between Sydney and Brisbane we now will have to pay a toll to use the highway.
Our peacekeepers died assisting them after both their natural disasters, their Prime Minister comes over here claiming he is so thankfull for our help and money and yet look what he lets happen. Then you get the lowlives clap and cheer in the courtroom when the verdict is read out.
I'm not a racist, thug or cruel person but I'm not giving one more brass razo to help Indonesia. I work bloody hard for my money and I'm sick and tired of seeing it going to help other countries when our roads and hospitals are a mess.
Look at the **** weak sentences the Bali bombers got compared to Schapell. I have sent a very strong worded e-mail to both the Indonesian Embassy in Australia and also their foregin affairs embassy in Indonesia. I hope people will do the same and let them know how disgusted we are.
I hope the next Tsunami washes every single one of them away! Hang your heads in shame Indonesians!

Howard is doing a supreme job of arse kissing with our Indonesian mates (joke)and cares not to help his countryman ( for Howard its just roll on retirement with a huge super payout). It is not going to go away and our PM along with Downer(what a apt name) don't really care.
Really the Indonesian judicial system is bordering on barbaric and the blatant racism is against us ,a Dominantly White Democratic Free Christian Race is diguisting. We are everything that they aren't and being fair falls into that catagory.
Hopefully the Australian people send a message to the indonesians the best way we can with our wallets or lack of.
Wonder what George thinks?

im sorry guys, id really like to boycott indonesian products and stuff, but im hooked on buying ungodly amounts of me goreng from woolies. im probably single handedly supporting their economy.
i wonder what would happen if they busted her out of there, and got her back into aus. when she gets found out, do you reckon shed get sent back to bali. would it be better to serve time in australian jails vs corrupt bali one. dont know. random thoughts. but ****, most of freakin story doesnt make sense. a bag of pot into bali, wtf for, that would have to be the dumbest attempt. getting some of the smelliest crap, and packing it into a bag so it sticks right out. BAH.
Im dissapointed about their legal system. its supposed to be innocent until proven guilty there aswell. yet she didnt stand a freakin chance in hell. what about the system there to protect the people, to hell with that they say.
i have a habbit of not making a point. so myeah. maybe we all just wanna be the knights in shining armour who help the hottie.

I'm surprised that they have electricity and running water if you use their backward way of thinking as a guide.
