    Default Illegal Parking?

    Hi,

I was wondering if I was illegally parking, I live on a corner block house where I don't have street parking available, I have a double garage and driveway. The garage is half full (with crap), and has another car in. The drive way contains 1 car (my car isn't allowed on drive way because it used to leak oil), my brothers car sits on our front lawn. We have 4 cars generally at the house, sometimes up to 6.

Across the road is another house on the corner, the front of the house has the driveway and the side is empty (just their backyard wall, and gravel road), which has a power pole on the government property bit. I parked my car on the road, slight touch on the verge.

I received a letter this morning from the corner house saying that she/he has called the Ranger and given my license number for Illegal Parking. Is this true? that I parked illegal? I thought that it's not on their property, not interfering with other neighbours property, neither their driveways, & it's on the road. I didn't think there was anything wrong. The car doesn't sit their for weeks on end, it's generally a every day car, the car doesn't leak fluids (for property damage reasons).

any decent person if thay had an issue with your car being there would have discussed it with you, they sounds like very weak individuals, contact your state road authority or look up on there website for what you can/cannot do in regards to parking on the side of the road.

From memory you cannot mount the kurb, you must be as close to it as possible however and must remain a certain distance from any intersection (I believe most intersections have a long white line leading up to them in the center of the road and that is roughly the distance)

Now would also be a great time to have a party and have all of your friends cars line the road :P

Haha, thats good one. Thought bout having a party, hate it cause my block has no parking for anyone. It's not near an intersection just near a bend I guess. I think they still have a grudge because my brother used to have a old datsun parked over there and did crap to his car ages ago and made noise. My car was only slightly touching the curb (wanted to get as close as possible to the curb because its near a bend, don't want someone flying round the corner and slamming into the back end of my car).

Edit: It's not like the car is interfering with their driveway, lawn, cars, views, privacy, or property. Man I hate some people sometimes, if I'm in the wrong I'll move the car and apologise etc, but I didn't think there was anything wrong with it. (O btw, I used to have my car in the double garage until folks decided to replace my spot with old chairs and tables, it's only been out there for 2 weeks now, once I can get rid of them chairs/tables I'll get my spot back)

I don't sit outside and rev the engine (nor have an exhaust on it) or crank the sound system up, I actually turn my sound system down when I start going up my street.

wait. is the issue because you parked too close to an intersection/corner, or because youre on the gutter? if its because of the gutter, go illegally park a brick in their living room

You really need to take a photo of this place you've parked your car, because I have NO idea what's going on from your description

Also, you should buy a bag of bean-bag filler, and empty it in their yard when they're out.

    LMAO

As said, aslong as your not with in a certain distance to an intersection, 50metres sounds familiar, then I dont see the problem. I know some councils dont actually allow you mount the gutter but most will turn a blind eye if it frees up the road especially on tight roads.

Illegally parking a brick in there living room sounds like a good idea, I dont see why people insist of fighting with there neighbours, our new ones are like it to. we've had neighbours who use to park in our yard for several reasons, didnt bother us aslong as we could still get in and out, we generally have 4-6 cars in the front yard as it is lol.

If your parents are afraid of your car leaking oil in the driveway, can you lay some carpet down where you will park to reassure them?

I'd recommend buying shells with no wheels, and dropping them on 'the other' side of the road in front of their house then claim they aren't yours when the council takes them away

Some people just whinge for nothing. My old neighbours used to whinge that i was 'speeding' past their house. How i managed to get an auto VL past 60 in 15 metres is beyond me tho.....(the live on the corner of my street, thats about 3 houses long)

At my old place, the Asians across the road used to block my driveway (their garage was filled in to be a room, and they had like 6 people living there). All i did was ask them not to block the driveway (my driveway faced the side street, theres faced the road) and there was no problem, they parked further down.

    Hi,
Thanks for the replies, I would take a photo but I'm at work at the moment. I'll try to get a snap after work (making sure I park as when I got the letter).

The brick idea sounds great tho XD but I'm not that kind of person unfortunately. Sorry about my description of the incident, I tried a Paint picture but didn't work, my skills on Paint isn't that great haha.

Edit: It's not a turn corner (were you would indicate), it's a bend. Maybe they mean't that I was too close to the actual bend that I was illegally parking. Anyone know the distance away from a bend you have to be?

dont know of any rules about bends. maybe a google maps photo of your street could help? cover up the street names and stuff if youre more comfortable with that

Your allowed to park on a bend as long as it doesn't block the road.

So you live on the corner block? There is an intersection on your side? The regs over here are 30m from an intersection and that includes the opposite side of the road.

Edit: I parked on the gravel once... they had a sad. Ah ye... now I remember ... they were whinging it's not a parking lot XD

well the dont own that gravel bit, council land, you should be fine there, just make sure your not covering their driveway. i suggest leaving a note on their 4x4 saying that they cant park on council land and ranger is on the way.

In the page I linked, you have to click around the corner, not where the 4wd is parked. So I'm not parking near their driveway or grass area. If you go to street view and click the arrow to go around the corner thats where I was parked ... Not blocking the other side house driveway tho.

Edit: Follow the gravel brick road around the house

So where abouts were you parking?? up on the gravel bit?? if not park up on the gravel, where the 4WD is but around a bit.. and tell them to stick it,

its not even an intersection, and there is more than enough room to allow other cars to drive around...
