In brief, thinking of replacing my old car with something that will actually be useful. I hardly ever drive (pushy to work) so rather than have something that sits gathering rust I'm thinking about getting a toyota commuter van.
Brings along a few questions...
How many seats can legally be driven on a standard license?
Does anyone know of anyone who hires these things out or hires them out with a driver?
What are these things worth to hire?
If i were to drive it myself and be paid to take people places would i need a taxi or hire license of some sort?
Completely dumb to things like this - the idea is but a twinkle in my eye at the moment but i though i'd see what people know.
I can get a low k late 90's commuter for about 9k, it could be out making some money most of the time and ready for me and my kayaks on the odd occasion i actually need it.
In Vic by the way, not really interesting in regulations for other states.
I have driven a 12 seater with standard license,legally.
As for driving others you may need specific insurance for the van and possible public liability.
Whats you driving history like?It may be an important factor also.
Id say VicToads may be your best bet.

pretty sure that you would need a different license to take fare paying passengers.
also different insurance etc
