With the risk of people being injured and suing their business, I have found that all wreckers in my area now don't let you loose in their yards and you have to get the parts you want over the counter. If the parts are small, or the wrecker is a dipshit, like some of those in my area are, they won't even bother getting the parts off a wreck for you.
I was told it was because of OHS laws in NSW, which are absurdly stringent. Do you guys in areas away from the Central Coast in NSW still enjoy access to your wrecker's yard or do you have the same probs I have?
Visiting the wreckers used to be the best fun I had when I needed hard to get or obscure bits. Bloody government....
Down here we have a couple of yards. I have no trouble gettingin and having a look around the wrecks finding my part, and in some cases when they're busy removing it myself.
is there not a u-pull-it in NSW?
At Harveys wreckers they charge a dollar and they say its to cover their insurance for when you go in and dick around in the cars...
I think its to cover the fact people go in and pinch so much sh*t lol
Most wont let you get into the cars- but I have found that I spend lots of money at the same places (2 wreckers) - now they give me the tools and say go get it (and no it's not U-Pullit). I've even stated pulling VR dashes out to get the dash looms. But I do cook a few BBQ's for them after the boss there made a smart ass comment about getting some one to cook on such a nice day. I turned up the next day with some snags and bread)

and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
most of the ones i have been to in brisbane are lazy pricks and just point you in the direction of the model you want and tell you to go find it yourself.
there's one wrecker in brisbane that charges an admission fee
last time i went there it was $2 apparently half went to charity and the other half went to upkeep of the yard
and they don't take any parts off for you either.it's all self serve
i love going to the wreckers the one in waycole charges a buck or two you scribble on the sheet they let you into the yard and its a free for all everything that can fit into your pockets is yours![]()

Eureka styles!
In Blacktown (western Sydney) there's Pick n Payless. Been a few years since I've been there but was $2 to get in. Once I needed a Fan speed resistor for a VS exec A/C. Pulled it out and went to pay at the window on the way out. The guy looked confused as to what it was and just said I could have it free.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!
Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho

Im lucky as i can look around and get what i want from my wreckers.Always on Wednesdays after the auctions.
Im surprised Pick N Payless still operates, I mean cars up on stockies isnt the safest thing.
Neither are cars that have been attacked with the jaws of life and have broken glass and shards of panel work hanging out!
The best bit - must wear closed shoes ie sandshoes yet we still all get in wearing thongsEnd up with black feet afterwards tho
as has been said , there are 2 or 3 of these self serve yards in the seven hills - blacktown area. I have not had much lucck there myself as the cars in my local yard seem to have not moved in 12months and bits seem expensive... but yes you are free to walk around as long as you like. Torquative, which yard do you recommend for commy bits ?

Surprised they let a 14 year old in...
Yeah down in VIC thats how all the wreckers are. All the cars are up on rims, glass and crap everywhere. Walk in and do what you want. God help anyone who needs to get under the car for an exhaust or something.
Yeah, the conditions are shit, theres a rant on another forum about my opinion on this. I went to one in Melbourne, every car was supported on rims, one rim jammed into another rim 90degrees, most were tack welded. The car I needed to get under (the only VK with a 5-speed and I needed the speed drive) was supported on 3 of these make-shift stands, two at the back and one under the k-frame, and I needed to get in and under this car. Grease and broken glass all over the ground. It was in Dandenong, guess which one![]()
no sex in a wrecking yard?
obviously it's not a u-pull-it![]()
I find it funny, it says No Theives... yet their "mascot" if you will is a Pirate. Somewhat contradictory dont you think
Yeah that particular wrecker is the worst ive seen for glass and what not scattered all over the ground.
