The aftermath from this was one of the worst I have ever seen. The news doesn't really say much about how it happened it just says they hit each other then smashed into the same stobie pole? Pretty strange for them to both hit the same pole.
Looks like they hit the stobie then landed 20 meters back in the direction they were coming from. Cant even imagine what that would be like to witness.

Oh no they were coming from the other direction (der). I couldn't figure out why the debris was where it was.
Where? Sorry if it is but I couldn't find it.
they were drag racing at 150, the subi bumped the skyline. they lost control from what i read. skyline driver lost his legs.

Pretty sad.. according to facebook the kid that died was a friend of a friend of mine. Never met him however. Hopefully this is a bit of a wake up call to others, as much as you'd like to think it you aren't invincible when you're behind the wheel!
Thank christ they only wiped each other out...
Darwinism at its best. People wonder why laws are getting tougher, this is exactly why.
No doubt we will hear the cries about the importance of opening a track etc. These clowns would have killed themselves with or without a track. Fancy doing 150+ in a 60 zone...****ing morons.

nothing else is working down here with curbing the road toll minux, i think the SA govt should get a track happening, its got a better chance of working than hoon laws, clearly that isnt working.
i know a lot of people here that do stuff on public roads and i know they wouldnt have the urge to do so if there was somewhere to go.
So lack of self control is the real issue here...not lack of a track.

as i just posted on adelaidenow.
a racetrack does not stop ego and wanting to show off. or the natural instinct to speed.

the fact of the matter is its happening, and nothing is working. could people here honestly do without a passion/hobby of theirs for 8 years? thats how long its between drinks, last time we had a strip i wasnt old enough for a license. every p plater down here dont know any better because theve never seen any better.
if you want to settle a score with a mate, both of you have to drive 6/8 hours to a track, either pulling your car on a trailer or risk breakdown and trying to get it back home. what would most young ppl do in that situation?
*sigh*
Vic has strips all over the place, doesnt solve any ******** drivers down here.
I dont buy the logic of "We dont have a track so we do it on the road" Thats like saying I cant be in the army anymore so I am just going to shoot people in the street until they let me in...

at the end of the day a car is like a gun

take your pick, they will always blame it on something like that. as much as i hate being pulled over we need more police on the road and less ****ing ba falcons with cameras. a camera makes u broke, it doesnt stop u speeding. im sick of being cut off by asians in my area ( western burbs ) , tail gated by people or nearly smashed up by barbie in her excel on her phone or doing her make up. the amount of girls i know breaking road rules and getting let off is totally ****ing ridiculous. stitch a **** onto her or a moustache and put her in a commie with p plates then lets see how much leniancy girls get.

lets all get holden vivas with no modifications, close down all car stores, and ban all car events cause they might encourage bad behaviour. also no car movies
then we better ban guns... and any movies with gun.... and police cant have them cause guns kill....
then next we ban sex, cause u can get aids from it....
oh and public holidays, long weekends, etc, cause thats when the road toll rises
and its generally people between 17 - 25 that are getting killed on the roads ... so lets go a bit jewish and kill all male babies from now onthat will fix the road toll in 16 years
NOTE A WHOLE LOT OF SARCASM LOL
SIR LS1

yeah no worries, coz thats the same as lining a mate up on a strip......
skate boarders have skate parks, atletes get stadiums, what about people with a passion for cars - people like me who work hard and pay tax to fund these other things that dont interest me. not saying dont have them but im saying can i get something back? something that i will use and enjoy. i have no idea where my rego is going, definately not goin into SA roads. i look for side streets with speed humps cos the humps are smoother than the bitumen.
my tax goes into my brothers gf's pocket it seems

I took the time to talk it over with my 12 year old son - the games he plays on the computer/playstation are for fun. Doing it on the public roads - one lad dead and another has lost his legs for life.
The photo's in the paper were very graphic indeed.

a track might have stopped this, it might not have, but if it even saves only a couple of lives a year i'd say it's worth it.
something that isn't being factored into this though is that with no tracks, there's no reason for people to build dedicated track cars. which means you'll likely just get nutso cars on the streets. sure some folks take their daily to the track or mod it with trackwork in mind, but this is the whole other end of the spectrum, youve got what would be a track car in any other state doing daily duty, and that's just asking for mayhem like this.
people will always have issues with self control, hence, speeding/hooning, addictions, drink driving and all that crap. just because its in some people nature to be a wanker doesn't mean we shouldn't do something to let them be a wanker in a reasonably responsible manner, away from endangering the public.
Tracks up here in Sydney don't seem to do much.
Honestly, think about it - two ****wits pull up next to each other in hotted up cars, are about to give each other a go, then all of a sudden one of them says "Hey, let's not do this here like morons, lets take this to the local strip" and they happily drive 25km at 60km/h to the local track where they settle their dispute like gentlemen. Yeah right!![]()

maybe they don't do much, but that's not really the issue. no-one can say they do nothing (not that you did, but it seems to be the consensus) because sydney has them, basically it would be different if it was different but it's not so it's not.
in the end, would tracks make street drags more or less likely? they'd have heaps of positives and i can't realisically think of any negatives. the government/courts could impose harsher laws (with car heads' approval) on illegal drags because there'd be a legitimate alternative, there'd be less strip-designed cars seeing daily use.
to say that a strip would cause more road drags is like saying a shooting range increases drive bys.
