I have worked on countless carbys wether they have been on a car or small machinery and have seen what water does to them
But today was a first ,I was given a four stroke mower that wasnt going It had several problems that were easily fixed
But when I pulled the carby apart I found the whole of the bowl was full of what I can only describe as a clear jelly and absolutly no corosion .
I know ethanol with turn to jelly when it absorbs water ,so are all of the E10 horror stories true ?
I cant think what else would cause this other than old E10 ,unless he was trying to run it on gelatine

I see all too often people blaming E10 yet I know heaps of people who dont have an issue and they run it all the time too.
No it was a metal fully metal carby
I used to use all of the time without issue ,until I sold my last car and bought the L67 statesman and it just doesnt agree with it
Now with my mods I can only run premuin only
replaced a fuel pump in a rodeo the other week
fuel pump was great .the rubber hose that was part of the assembly however was like cooked pasta
would not use any ethanol blend unless the car was set up for it
the V6 VE i had ran great on it and the wife filled it up with E10 every week. But it is designed to be able to run on it. the SS is also designed to run on it, but uses more fuel.

- UNDERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
- OVERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the rear.
- HORSEPOWER is how fast you hit the wall.
- TORQUE is how far you take the wall with you.
I was thinking the cause of the jelly was E10 that was left for months /years to go stale because I know ethonol will turn to jelly in the rigth conditions
Has anyone ever had a car or something else in storage for a long time with E10 in the tank until it went off and found anything unsual?
i run my vz on ethanol when i can and it seems to run better, it takes off heaps quicker and just seems to have heaps more power when i drive it compared to regular unleaded (which ran pretty average on it) plus its always a couple of cents cheaper so why not
I put it in my vl once, made it run like shit.

i ran my old engine on it for a while, it ran smoother at idle other then that I didn't really notice a huge difference.
I dont use it anymore though, the old VS just wasn't meant to have it, I cant wait to strip that old engine down and see if the ethanol did any damage to any of the alloy.

I put E10 in my old VS once. Ran like crap then a week later the fuel pump died. Probably a coincidence but I never did it again

run my vl on it every so often, goes allright although theres a small difference between it and 98 i think
There are a couple of cars that have been setup for Ethanol and are very powerful. Power's there, as long as the vehicle is ethanol friendly!
Hey Guys.
What this jelly like item you have found in the mower is SPB - stagnant petrol buildup most refind and oil based petrols go stagnant after 3-4 weeks without being circulated through a fuel system. but tend to leave a black muck which is designed to burn up like normal fuel eventually,
ethanol starts to go stagnant after 1 week or so. and that jelly is just the cane seperating from the petrol. this shouldn't be a problem just remove replace filter element and try not to use it for your mower
I've been working at mobil for 4 years and it might sound bias but besides from bp we are one of the only companies refusing to use ethanol as ITS SHIT
see above........
all VS commodores are built to run with E10, says so in the book, every time I change my fuel filter i cut it open to see what crap might be in it. I have found that since running E10 there is alot less crap in it and there is no jelly stuff or salty stuff in it at all.
lol Mobil do sell E10 man. In NSW and QLD. And at a managers meeting they said Vic and SA are next. They havent introduced it yet as they are having alot of issues with it, but the point is they do sell it. Still wouldn't touch it myself or reccomend it whether I sold it or not.
Ah so if you use E10 and dont have any hassels just make sure you dont leave it sitting around for any long periods and alternate the fuel type between tanks
