About a month ago.. my engine light came on driving home from work.. when i got home i diconnected the battery, let it sit then reconnected, turned it on and the light was gone.. this morning sitting at the lights it came on again, i slowing moved off and when i 1st applied pressure to the accelerator the revs droped about 450-500 rpm, does it in neutral and park to then goes back up to normal...
WTF is going on!!!
2004 Holden Rodeo RA LT 2x4 V6 3.5l Petrol
Go to the holden dealer, get them to plug the Tech2 into it and find out what error codes its throwing up.... Dont ignor warning lights on the dash, never leads anywhere good...
As above.
Glad mine is the older model. Few guys having dramas with those.
Managed to solve the problem, i read on another car forum about this same problem. one guy said "try opening the fuel cap and put it back on". I tried this and a HUGE gush of this air/vapor/gas (what ever it was) came rushing out for about 5 secs.. then sure enough the light went off.... Please explain haha?!? Whats the fuel tank got to do with the engine managment system.?..
excessive pressure in the charocoal canister purge im thinking,
hence the idle dropping low, too much air too little fuel
just a tip, if you have warrenty on the car, pay very close attention to oil consumption, if it hasnt had the engine fixed up under new car warranty with oil burning issues, you could be up for bigish $$

Cheers,
Ok things seem to be getting worse now.. last night i took the MAF out and cleaned it with MAF cleaner, put it all back in. But now its hitting up gears really hard ( its auto) and going into reverse hard to and has lost about 50% of power... what have i done??![]()
What happens if i unplug the MAF sensor?
You'll Probably **** it up more than you did before.... Stop playing with it and give it to someone who knows what they are doing, its cheaper to give it to them now than when you have put a rod through the block or something...
Point taken, ill book it in.
one thing ive learned from the mechanic at my work is that you never fiddle with the car unless you know exactly how to fix it otherwise it will only cost you more because you have fiddled with it
Just thought id update my progress, had it booked in yesterday at heartland holden, explained my problem then started my hour long walk home.. About lunch time got a call saying its all fixed and to come down and fix it.. So off i went again back. What had happed was.. the 1st problem i had actually fixed (the stalling) by cleaning the MAF sensor. But (stupid me) took off the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) to check for loose connections, when re connecting i had put it back up-side down resulting it send an error code further making me think i still hadnt fixed my original problem.. So the lesson i lernt.. Dont mess with things!! All up cost me $110 which i thought was good..
1 week later after i had it in at holden... and it tottaly stalled when i took off from a traffic que.. all lights on dash came on.. it would start again but as soon as i touched the accelerator it stalled.. this happend about 3 times, 4th time it started and i managed to get moving again, im considering finding a tall cliff and pushing the thing off it..
Update: Took it into a little holden service center, the friendly bloke brought out the Tech 2 pluged it in.. and it came up with:
P0122 Not Present
T.P.S (Throttle Position Sensor) Circut low Input
P0172 Not Present
O2 Sensor To Rich Bank 1
P0175 Not Present
O2 Sensor To Rich Bank 2
He didnt charge me which was good, but he also didnt tell me anymore about what i could do to fix above problems, but he did say the first one is my problem... But i could of sworn Holden fixed that the 1st time...
Update: Took it into a EFI specialist and he quickly saw what was wrong with the T.P.S. and noted it had low voltage and was faulty so it was replaced and everything was going fine.. the acceleration problem was fixed.... but now.... sitting at the lights this morning, the revs started surging up and down, at one point on the low rev drop it stalled completly this has happened 3 times after the T.P.S. was replaced, i know you're goign to say "take it back to the dude", it's booked in for next tuesday, but i was wondering if anyone might know what my problem is? what causes the up and down surging of revs?
Thanks in advance.
Sell the ****ing thing as soon as its running right.
Just thought id finish this story.. for anyone searching google or anything.
The surging of rev's was the result of a dirty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve
It looks abit like a UFO
Not really being able to afford the new part quoted at 564 dollars the mechanic cleaned it up for me, and the problem hasnt come back since..
best $45 ive ever spent..
Case closed...
hey guyz i having problem with my 2004 rodeo ute engine lights coming on the revs getting stuck on 2500rpm every time press the clutch it stay like that it goes away and then it happens again also it seems like its tryn rich . Can someone tell me whats going on???? thanx
I could tell you to instead make your own topic.
I am having a problem in starting my diesel. The glow plug light comes on for a very short time and then goes off and when it turns over it does not start like it used to.
After turning it over for about 30 seconds and it does start it blows out a lot of blue smoke.
When the engine is warm, there are no problems.
Obviously there is a problem with the heating, so how do you check and repair the problem?
