Default Wedding Car Hire

Ever since I've had the silver VS Statesman, I thought it'd be neat to get another silver stato and start up a wedding car business. I actually prefer silver wedding cars to white ones so maybe I'm unusual. Anyway, now that I own a silver WH as well I've mentioned the idea to a few friends and someone's actually interested in hiring me!!

My problem is that I have no idea what to charge. Usually it's on a per hour basis (say $75-$90/hour per car for 2 hours minimum). I was thinking $60/hr (cash of course!) just as a trial, but this particular wedding happens to be on a Monday in November. Any thoughts on what I should quote?

Well, if the average is $75-$90 you can't really charge that amount. I reckon $50-$60 is fine till word-of-mouth has travelled round (and by having cheaper prices then other services l bet it will!!) or till you get used to what your doing.

Or until the government catches you?

Isn't there some legal ramifications to doing that? And wouldn't your insurance be void, as you're using your vehicle for money earning?

Mate, it probably sounds great in theory and it would be easy money hence its appeal. But apparently its not all its cracked up 2 be. I have a mate who has a walky and temed up with a mate and charged a considerable amount more than you are planning. Anyway he threw the towel in because he could not stand the way people treated his car, he had to constantly watch people because they would disrespect the car, they'd try to sit or lay on it for photos or be tools in the back. Wasn't worth the stress he reckons. Just something for you to think about.

I've used my car for a wedding before (and a few formals) and havn't had the disrespect thing, but its definatly something to consider. The people i've taken were family friends or my close friends, so there was never an issue. Doubt i'd ever get into it as a business.

I only charged for fuel for the day(s) which was less than $50 total.

Your right there. The car has to be insured to cover paying passengers in the event of an accident. If an accident were to happen I think you would find yourself without cover as it would be deemed as business use given your charging your passengers.

There is also the issue of dodging taxes by not forking over your share of GST etc.
