This is a pic of a few mates cars, turns out we all have J37 number plates haha

Few more pics, New Turbosmart BOV
Cooler is a little one that does the job but im changing all the pipe work soon and will use a shorter but wider cooler
Headers HPC coated
Billet Quickshift, Thee best product ever for the sloppy getrag
Just looking for ideas on a new intake now but i am also talking to George from Pro Flow in melb about a possible new engine built for NOS but that will be late next year some time, i will just engoy the car for what it is now and head to the drags to see how i go!

Fabian
Welcome to the Raptor Sub forum area, we appreciate a tidy ride and with the other customers/users here can all share the info/tricks
Mate, some of those pics are new ones to me, a few good cars lined up there it seems
If anyone has not noticed this car is the first Commodore V6 in Australia to feature the Raptor V with anodising! This is the Blue item - colour known as BLUE G and same as the blue on all speedflow fittings since it is anodised at same supplier.
The car looks mint with the stripes!
The sticker found a home too I see, awesome

looks great mate, did u notice much difference once fittig the hot earth setup?
Very nice, fly lice.
Nice big pod filter there...
Hot earth was a great idea. You notice the car starts better and lights seem brighter. Great cheap little mod to do but im thinkin of re doing mine so its neater. Whole idea for now is to enjoy and tidy for now and look at doing some drags see how i go.

Lookin good fabio, uve done a fair amount of work to it since yo left the coast aye, good stuff
How you've got it now is best, no intake restrictions whatsoever. Any more alterations may add piping, enclosures etc. and would not be worth whatever minute gain you might get. Having something hang out the bonnet for intake will cause problems with taking in rainwater too.
Time to force some air into the VP, Jase.![]()
HAHAHA i wish, maybe if i stopped drinkin me money aways, i got me stezza that keeps me happy, n my RE92's on the back in the rain, keeps me smiling
Bet thing money can buy. When i decided to go for a charger the shifter was the first mod i did and wouldnt have it any other way. Turns the sloppy gearbox to a tighter shift and the throw is perfect. Billet make a great product.
On the intake im thinking if i leave it i want something on the bonnet to let the heat out. Everytime i open the bonnet its really hot so anything i can do to keep temps down has to be a good thing.
.:Blown VT V6, DAJ37:.
a lot of heat is from the exhaust manifolds. the best way to eliminate heat is to stop it at the source. get the headers coated, something like HPC. will stop a lot of heat under the bonnet, may also give a few extra HP because keeping the heat in the exhaust means increased exhaust velocity which help exhaust scavanging and power. ahh i see they are already coated. excellent.
the only other suggestion i have is to shield the POD filter from direct under bonnet hot air. the MACE setup works well if oyur not keen to fabricate something yourself.
also consider a MACE 12mm pacer/insulator. for the plenum. will help keep the entire upper manifold cooler
have oyu done Tim's EGR gasket "support" mod?

Any time, any car's bonnet is openned, you'll feel the 'heat', lol. Consider this, the car is hottest when it is not moving - the engine runs hotter at idle than while you are driving it. While your car is moving, it is constantly cooled by normal air movement, all that heat is being swept down the engine bay and under the car. Going by the heat you feel when you open the bonnet is a false assessment. The best thing you can do to reduce heat is coating the headers, which you've already done, even direct radiant heat isn't really a big issue due to the constant cooling of air movement.
As thuan has said, yep HPC coated the headers, EGR mod was done aswell. Was told those spacers arent worth the effort but i spose if mace gave me onehaha might look at boxing the air filter.

dont forget you are in cairns and its comig round to summer fabz, lol
sucks to be you
yeah its hard to keep the temps down.. but if temp guage is up at idle check ur cooling system.. i can flog the living crap out my car, do a burnout til the tyres pop and the temp guage doenst move,,
Fabz
The next thing you can benefit from is the MACE cold air box for the pod. Its a must - especially in cairns.
Commodore V6 cooling systems are legendary if in good operating condition, I was never able to shift temp gauge on my VY - never.
I cannot think of any modern car that we have supercharged that showed any heat stress in the coolant system, not one. Whether Subaru, Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi doesn't matter, they all have huge reserve cooling capacity. How much reserve I have no idea but we have never been able to find the limit on any of them when boosting at pressures within the capacity of the various engines.
A Magna V6 cooling system is very efficient but let down by a dodgy thermostat that doesn't flow enough soon enough after opening, worse still it can go from like 83c to about 120c and only move the smallest fraction on the temp gauge - very sneaky and very damaging. Not a coolant system fault as such more just a single component that needs investigating.

my alloytec reads 104-105 deg and isnt even 1/2 way on the guage, usually when driving round town, stop start and long mountain type drives, on the hwy bout 90deg
Hey Fabz, route the intake through the firewall for colder air with the ac on, hahaha.
hahaha yeh thuan ill do that lol, sounds like you been getting ideas of KEZZZZAAA LMAO!
Cooling system was recently re flushed and new coolent added aswell as a cooler thromstat so no dramas keeping engine temps down i just want to keep the heat down in the engine bay so i might look at folding up a air box here at work as we have a sheet metal shop. Doesnt look too hard lol. Mite try to remake that front plastic bit too
While im here whats peoples thoughts on bonnet guages? im undecided but im thinking about a oil pressure guage and something to go with it just not sure if the bonnet is the way to go?
.:Blown VT V6, DAJ37:.
im not a fan of bonnet guages but....if u make that lastic piece that goes over the radiator in sheet metal like a guy has on here on his turbo 4.2l vt i would b very interested to c it, and if they look anygood u could make urself some cash if u want to make one and sell it?
plenty of guys will tell you that the spacer is quite effective at keeping a lot of heat out of the upper section of the intake manifold. before i fitted mine i oculd easily fry a egg on it, after fitting the insulator/spacer, even after been stuck in traffic and getting major heatsoak you can still touch the intake with your hand without being burnt. gotta be a improvment.
i'd also suggest a slightly coooler thermostat, you certainly won't have issues with it running to cold in cairns. cool air in makes a huge difference. isn't the cooler also maybe a touch small?

i have a manifold insulator from mace and i can agree here they do make the top of the plenum cool by alot, and they are only 130buks or something from memory?
Can anyone confirm they actually feel results? other than your plenium is cooler to touch? I was just reading the info on the site (not having a go i just dont understand is all) but it says and i quote
"Please note that these results don’t reflect the true nature of the on road gains given the lack of actual airflow, which further drop inlet temps… Under these normal driving conditions the plenum (upper manifold), with the insulator in place, becomes cool enough to comfortably touch. Unlike before, without the manifold insulator under the same driving conditions, making it very difficult to touch without getting burned!"
To me that says pay est $130 so you have a plenium you can touch. I would have thought that the blower pushig air thru the cooler would have more of an effect that a insulator but if people say they have this item and 100% feel a difference then ill buy one straight up, im all for power gains.
Immortality - i have the cooler thermostat cheers.
