Its been a long time looking at the charger in the kitchen but Ive finally got enough cash up to get my vy running i have enough for exhaust, tune and about $1500 left hmmm options options.
My goal is 300rwhp (sounds good for a V6 daily driver) With the heat atm i am interested in cooling the motor but im not very keen on intercooling due to everyone not making any gains (but they do look cool). Maybe a vlc upgrade is an option?
i could get all these spacers and all the rest, but for a little more i could get a cam. which would get me there.
So what do you reckon tim ( and everyone else lol)
Hey mate i have been bombing around with the basic kit on an unopened ecotecs for quiet a few years now and my car comfortably makes 286rwhp. As i have nearly finished my studies i have been putting a lot of thought into what next. Personally the first thing i will be trying is the VLC option and upping the boost to 12psi which on it's own should see me very close the the 300rwhp mark. If you add a cam to that you should easily smash 300rwhp. Put the cam in at the same and save your self some future tuning dollars. That will be a very tasty daily driver mate.
mate a good front mount cooler setup is the best bang for buck along with rockers. the cooler makes a huge difference in torque.
Yes the coolers make a big torque difference, RCVX knows that for sure.
The 280+rwhp is achieveable as TADGH says without a cooler and reliable for complete street use, the burnout pad can take a toll on the motor eventually but otherwise you can play for ages
For sure don't disregard the coolers, do em later

a cooler will allow you to run more boost and your motor will last longer too
yeah true my only other problem is it is my daily driver and an intercooler say defect me lol. my vk will have a front mount for sure cause its a weekender. im going to gforce tomorrow to have a chat. how much boost is at the manifold after the cooler with 12psi ?
yeah im buying all i need then getting a custom tune so she is running her best.
might look into how much a cooler/piping will be. need a reverse manifold too.
there is a few options out there lol. if i dont go a cam ill get roller rockers. ill have more info tomorrow after i go to g force
you wont get defected for a cooler as long as you plumb back your BOVS. i am seeing 11.5psi at the manifold
In addition
For truly non defectable cooler install do not cut into the cars metal at all, holes through panels are bad

The reverse plenums are pretty easy to make for anyone who can weld half decent, a mate knocked mine up for me. I also have an i/c sitting in my garage ready to go but i am still not convinced they are worth the hassle. My car is way more fun, faster and puts out bigger dyno numbers than quiet a few of my mates who have gone i/c but it's hard to compare as they are all lazy auto drivers. Would be keen to drive an i/c'd 5 or 6 speed. As for the longevity of motors well 500 bucks and a weekends work sees you back in action with a 2nd handy pretty easily.
come to cairns tadgh and ill disconnect mine hahaha yours made like 286rwhp and mines got like 255rwhp LMAO im still searching for my lost hp! I had it re tuned but havent been bothered getting it dyno'd yet, maybe after chrissy.
If your in the hotter states like me in cairns go i/c if not i wouldnt. Spend dollars on cai and diff gears. oh and spare tyres hahaha

the missing horse power is stuck in the stripes fabz
What mods have u got done to yours tadgh
well went to gforce today and that didnt help lol. they cant do kalmaker.
2 people priced me $2300 for an exhaust today but i can surely get it cheaper than that .
what sort and sizes did u price up? does that include labour?

The Raptor tune should be ok for your machine unless you are changing the cam

the raptor tune is great for most applications
yeah i m still runnin he raptor tune and it goes really well
psivyv6 i just have the basic raptor kit with 1.95:1 rockers, bigger throttle body, 1 5/8" headers into 2 1/4" collectors through twin high flow cats into a single 2.5" and that's about it as far as go fast bits go. I also run an 80deg thermostat, overide switch for my thermo fan, heat wrapped headers, walboro 600hp fuel pump, line lock solenoid and an exedy button clutch into a t5 and a mini spool. i think the last 3 is what make it more fun to drive than it's i/c'd auto counter parts
yeah twin 2 1/4 with pacemakers fitted
To any with an interest in the burnout scene and running a Raptor V the heat wrapping of the extractors especially on the passenger side is a bonus idea and prevent the insane amount of heat generated during burnout work escaping from the exhaust system and over heating everything in the engine bay area.heat wrapped headers
Highly recommended.

yeah interesting. Im thinking a raptor tune just havr to organise a car for 2 weeks damn vy lol
just see if you can buy a computer to match your car from the wreckers and send that to CT to get tuned
raptor tune works fine, just do all the mods you can first then let tim know and they will tune to suit.

Hey, if you send your ECU to chiptorque now you will have it back 2 days later. You could have the ECU modified 5 x between now and the christmas break.![]()

really mad! i thought you said it would take 2 weeks. thats good news. this weekend is to buy parts
