sounding pretty tempting so far only thing im not sure on is the whine? im not familiar with superchargers sorry but i just wanna know if you can dampen the noise a bit to ride it stealth... say... if you were on your green p's and didnt want it to make noise til you were actually allowed to drive with it on..
also whats the benefits of an intercooler does it just make the air colder?
could you paint an intercooler black to slip it in and hardly see it or am i dreaming
oh and while im asking and probably looking like a retard might aswell ask, i read somewhere people talking about blow off valves in a charger... how do these apply and does it have the same effect as a turbo bov? like audio wise?
many more questions to come about chargers dont you worry haha
Put on your flame suit.
Just commodores people generally dont take kindly to people looking for help on how to break the law. (Forced induction on green P's)
There is no way a cop will miss this big snail hanging of the side of your engine, cop will bend you over the bonnet and ream you.

I've gotten my first supercharged vehicle recently and yes its a shitload of fun, but I went through all the 1.3 -1.5 shitty hatchbacks, and a VL exec before I got to this car with a full licence. Even though the restrictions didn't exist when I was on my P's I thought a six was enough.
Now I'm a cop, and I see acco's all the time involving P plate drivers. Theres a reason P platers aren't allowed so much power under the bonnet. If I had my way all P platers would have to have vehicles under 2.0L without modification, and airbags as standard. Then again if I had my way all drivers would have to re-test for their licence every five years. I'm honestly that sick of seeing serious crashes due to stupid driving.
P.S - half the beauty of the supercharger is the whine. Like music to my ears![]()
i couldnt agree more to the retest every 5 years, to put it out there im not just a retarded p plater that wants a fully sick car, im actually a firefighter and have attended many motor vehicle accidents caused by guys like that... mainly trying to do burn outs and hitting poles gutters or oncoming traffic etc. or just lack of attention when pulling out of sidestreets.
i live in mt isa (nothing like sydney),i drive sensibly, i just like the idea of testing my limits with chargers before i go getting a v8 and charging that.. im happy to wait it out was just curious if it was possible, as i said im new to chargers.
but - for future reference, to answer my question... other than maybe extra insulation on your bonnet is there a way you can tone down the whine from the supercharger?
cheers for input
Raptor supercharger kits are VERY loud to the point that everyone will turn and look at you. They tell me that eventually these things quieten down, but all mine has done is gotten louder. Oil cooled ones are generally a bit quieter, though you're still going to hear the whine. I thought that's why people bought superchargers?
You could paint your intercooler and piping black like I'm contemplating doing, but once again they're going to hear that whine and attack you anyway.
As for the blow off valve, you can only put on an externally venting one if you run an intercooled setup. I'll be running one on mine in a few weeks time - a HKS SSQV hopefully
Well it's quite possible to run an externally vented blow off valve with your non intercooled supercharger, it'd just require more pipework. The way the non intercooled Raptor kits are setup have the MAF on the intake side of the charger meaning they measure all air running through the charger. If you go putting an externally vented blow off valve on you'll be venting metered air to atmosphere, the computer will still be putting more fuel in for this air and typically your car will stall. Most if not all intercooled kits have the MAF near the plenum after the charger, this way you can put the bov before the MAF and not flood your motor.
there could be possibility of maching the interlal pully to quieten it down

If it sound like a jet it will go like one.
This is only after a couple of starts and a few easy k's under the belt, and it isn't even pushing 3500 rpm in the vid. It idled high for a little while but is getting a lot better.
Still got that I am supercharged whine though, and I love it. It's inspirational.

I think that comment that an individual unit can be loud is valid but for the most part they quieten down with use
You can plumb back an intercooled system, just a bunch more extra hosing to make it all connect
I did some work on a charger for a VZ a couple of weeks ago and it went from normal noise levels to near totally silent, sometimes the belts are the smallest fraction longer and then they run super quiet, just the luck of the draw on that issue
