mate as he has explained earlier in the thread, he went with the FIT 1.97 roller rockers and also a new set of extractors from HM, and his power went upto 132 or 133 rwkw's..
considering our VY model is around 114rwkw's from factory, its definitely a tasty little upgrade in power! u can also look into a better cold air intake system and a full change of all the oil's in ur car to get it running well..

You could go some extractors, Iridium spark plugs and some 1.95 or 1.97 rockers. They are the best kick in pants parts for the $$$$ that I can suggest prior to supercharging. You will find plenty about it if you go back through this thread
Service or pay to have serviced, the auto, the diff, the brake fluid, power steer fluid and motor if not up to scratch. You be suprised just how much better a car can perform with all the smalll details sorted out.
Enjoy

Hey Raptorsc
I have been following this forum for ages with great interest. I have just bought myself a 1995 VS Calais 3.8 ECOTEC with only 62000kms on the clock. The car is in AWESOME condition....however.... I have changed all filters, oil & flushed the coolant so that i know that it was done correctly. Being my first ECOTEC after i flushed it properly (removing knock sensors) the car still bloody runs at the half way line, sometimes a lil bit over that.
You guys having charged a ECOTEC you must have some advice on cooling the devil. I have considered an additional cooling fan but i dont know where it would go or a 81 degree thermostat or those laser cut heat shields that FIT make.
What should i do.

Hey mate i have a raptor on mine and i can say that those heat sheilds are no good with the raptor kit, i had to take mine off! All they do is protect the intake charge from being heated by the headers, if you are running stock headers it will fit (excuse the pun) fine, however once your headers get larger the plumbing from the blower does not allow enough clearence over the header and your plug leads get killed in the matter of a week or two. If you are not running a bolt on blower the size of your headers will be irrelevent and it will fit fine but I don't think the sheild will help it run cooler either. I have fitted a cooler thermostat and it makes a difference when there is plenty of air circulating over the radiator. However the main problem with the hot running ecotec is when there is no airflow over the radiator and the thermo fan only kicks in late and not for long. To overcome this i have fitted an overide switch for the fan, i just turn it on or off as required, and the one stock fan moves plenty enough air to cool it right down. This is the cheapest and easiest option i have found.
If anyone else has other ways of cooling the VS I too would love to hear about it.

would b good idea to have the thermo fan temp's changed in the tunes, bring it all down 10-15c to match the lower thermostat temp..
i think stock temps are 91thermostat 99thermo1 109thermo2 dont quote me thou. would be nice to have 81thermostat 89thermo1 99thermo2.

That would be good! I never thought of that! Problem is the cost of tuning though, a switch costs about 4 bucks and takes 40mins tops to install! When i get my custom tune done i will definately be asking that to be done.
Cheers

Servicing
Been keeping the VY up to scratch lately
Already 7000km have passed since the ProStreet charger kit was fitted so time for oil change on the motor.
Have been itching to get back to our favourite product for the motor and this now sees 95% of the driveline lubricated with Amsoil synthetic oil. Will attach a bottle image for the 10/40 motor oil and the Autotrans fluid
For oil filter we go the Pure One filter as you can get from Supercheap or other outlets if they have them. These are premium quality filters ....... no question.
Not changing the auto trans fluid yet, got to arrange the bits we need and will fit them at same time as change or maybe I have a mind change and change lube only (as mentioned earlier) to gauge the effect of new fluid.
The Power Steering fluid copped a change out as well, went with the Synthetic auto trans fluid on that one.
Don't forget if you want to see a full colour fitting guide on how to fit a ProStreet intercooled kit to a VS V6 Commodore see current Issue of Street Comms Issue 126 JUNE 2007 Page 103

that sounds like the normal place for the temp gauge to be sitting when in slow traffic or stuck at the lights etc. just over the second mark the thermo fan should kick in. when traveling at normal speeds like 50km/h the missus VS normally sits just a little over the first mark. definitly getting the tune sorted to the thermo kicks in earlier should be an advantage, especially if you fit a cooler thermo stat as mentioned above
