The TH700 is mostly the same as the 4L60E many interchangeable parts but this link gives you an idea of how they (Extreme build) are made up.

Yes, its good to go anytime, it will also have the new turbosmart valve installed in what I will refer to as the Generation 3 intercooler setup since it will allow safe high boost operation

Raptor, going over the thread, i noticed for engine oil you went from Amsoil, to Castrol Edge 10w60 to Edge 5w30. Why the change from Amsoil as its one of the best ?

Amsoil is still legendary, no argument

The supplier we had was a good friend and he handed it all over someone at the Gold Coast a while ago, so it has been just easier to get the Edge at short notice.

Sniff sniff, the ever faithful VY is in the process of being moved on, a V6 Hilux is waiting to come to the Raptor car fleet.

The project car has done everything it was meant to do and provided the base generic tune and system design for every Raptor VU VX and VY Commodore kit. Hugely successful in terms of reliability and fun with the odd customer now running the risk at 14psi and so far going fine.

I was never really a Commodore person prior to owning the VY but it has been an exceptional car and as in many other posts the body is one of the best in Australian family cars. The Ecotec is a phenominal engine as we have all come to learn, its basic but tougher than the average engine.

The VY will be available through a car yard in Brisbane, it will stock under the bonnet, no supercharger system but it will still be fitted with all the other good gear like the rockers, brakes etc et etc.

Tomorrow all the gear comes off, won't take very long to do that, stock injectors back in and the original Holden tune as well same as the day she left the factory. Will still be one of the quickest NA VYs around with auto trans. Showing around 108 000km right now


Many thanks to all who have participated in the thread about the VY, I believe a lot of owners have found hope in how to modify the later model ECUs in what we have done and offered, of course this all continues as normal its just the VY won't be part of the scene.



The new vehicle

The Hilux is the 4.0 V6 auto Xtra cab 2WD (121000 kms) with around 175kw stock, I am hoping for around 230 - 240 at the wheels from this vehicle with 9psi. We find that 4psi with a Raptor gives them 200rwkw so the extra 30 should be a snack with a small intercooler attached.

I took the car for a quick test run after all the stock parts were refitted including the stock tune and injectors (extractors, cats, HSV exhaust, 1.97 rockers, iridium plugs all still fitted) and the car is actually 2-3kmh FASTER than my best NA runs with the same gear in the past!!!

The difference is that way back then we only could get 95 octane fuel, now we of course have 98 octane.

Who said superchargers wear out engines??? Not a properly tuned engine with a Raptor system thats always been well serviced, there's the proof.

The FIT rockers stood the test of time too, mightn't be roller tipped but fine pieces of gear that hang in there!

Well there is always room for another post ..............

Today I recieved the VY back from the automatic shop, gave the auto a rebuild (new clutches, drums etc) and adjusted the shifting for better performance, the box is absolutely magic now, should have done that way back hey.

Anyhow I wanted to know did the highway economy change from what the car could do before I Supercharged it .........

Answer is, set cruise control to 100kmh, reset fuel readout and let it enter 3 averages to get an idea, VY came up with 8.2liters per hundred ........... how good are these engines, maybe slightly better than before we started supercharging it, I will be looking for some high 7's tomorrow on the trip to Bris and I am sure I will get some.

This car has definitely been a good one and still is awesome, with the auto all rebuilt sweet and everything else already perfect this car will be an awesome buy for someone wanting to get started on a nice P plate friendly ride

i was told there is a good place in mackay that does autos...my mates VR ss had his rebuilt there and its indestructable! i think the place is called "kennedy automatics"?

hey thinking of puting in a SC on my vy but does there need to be any engine work done this is so as to plan for the cost no point in having an SC with no engine and do i need to do any thing else to the car like dif and stuff.

dont quote me, but u wont need any engine mods, best to have a full exhaust, stage 2 shift kit for autos's.

The kit comes with bigger injectors thats about all you have to change, and the location of ur coils.

Would be good to have a LSD to put all that power down, but not necessary.

I tell you this..... doing up a 4L60E properley turns them into a magic box.

Had mine done and it's absolutley sweet as. No other auto I have driven comes close to it.

Big rap to SouthpineAutomatics for doing mine. Not cheap - $2500 bux, but flawless, faultless and fast changing. The guy who runs it is a one man band, but he makes sweet noise for the money.
