    My Torana Rebuild

Yeh, it has been a while. I don't really come on here anymore, last night was the first time in months. Anyway, as has been already said, I sold my ute. Some of the proceeds have gone towards finishing this car off to the standard I want it. First on the agenda was to finish my 9" diff, then do...

WB Ute, Injected 5 litre Project.

Havn't been on here for ages. Yes, this was on eBay and yes it did sell, so it's now in its new owners hands. To be honest, I didn't really want to sell it and was sad to see it go. However, we just had no use for it anymore. We had a baby girl 18 months ago, so with only three seats it was not...

    My Torana Rebuild

I'll just leave this here. This is from when I first got it running so excuse all the loose end that needed to be tied up. The video doesn't really do it any justice, but you get the idea.

    My Torana Rebuild

Thanks mate. My parents bought this car off my brother for me as my first car for a couple of grand (no driveline). I just got it insured tonight for 40K. It's come a long way from those days.

    My Torana Rebuild

Haha, you remember the cold nights cruising in this...I was planning on putting a heater in this time, but I just don't think I can bring myself to drill holes in the firewall for heater hoses. I could put a couple of 12 volt hair dryers under the dash though. I'll see how I go.

    My Torana Rebuild

Thanks mate. Sometimes when I walk out into the shed and see it sat there, I have to remind myself that it's actually mine. Sat next to the ute makes me realise how lucky I am to have 2 nice cars. No honeymoon, I was back at work on Monday. We are saving the money we got from the wedding to...

    My Torana Rebuild

Just some photos I took tonight to send off to my insurance company. You'll have to excuse the interior as it's not quiet finished yet and it really doesn't suit the car anymore but I'll sort that out soon enough.

    My Torana Rebuild

Thanks mate. I'm happy for anyone to take pics of it anytime. Although, it's had that many pics taken of it in the last few days it's not funny. One more I found.

    My Torana Rebuild

So, as dirbatua has posted, it made the wedding. However, what you guys don't know is that it actually ran and drove, brakes and all. We fired it up for the first time on Wednesday arvo. It fired up first turn of the key. Everything went really well except for a problem with the head studs...

    My Torana Rebuild

Yeh, I'm with you. They're just a temporary measure to get it to the wedding as I don't have $1000 to spend on new chrome bars. So painted bars was the cheapest and easiest way to get it looking like a complete car. They're actually growing on me, but I still think it needs chrome bars. I...

    My Torana Rebuild

So, just a few pics of how it sits as of tonight. The body is pretty much done, apart from lining up the drivers guard to the nosecone (two person job), painting and fitting the tailgate and putting the windscreen in. This week will be all about getting the motor running and the rest of the...

    My Torana Rebuild

So, just a quick pic to show you where I'm at as I really don't have the time to do a proper update. I'm too busy working on it... This was taken last night.

    My Torana Rebuild

Thanks mate. I havn't had the time to do any updates as I've been flat out working on it. Trust me, it is progressing though. Stay tuned for an update.

    My Torana Rebuild

I'm Thanks mate. Everything is going ok so far, however I'm really starting to doubt it's going to be finished enough to actually drive it there. It's got heaps of little things to go like wiring up the lights, indicators and such. Then I still have to build an exhaust. So, I'll probably end...

Haha, not a chance. LX dash is just about assembled. Looks fantastic.

    My Torana Rebuild

The inside is getting a coat of black kill rust enamel with a brush. That's getting done as soon as it gets back from the paint shop tomorrow. To be honest, I just ran out of time to do the inside before it got painted. It had to be painted today or it wouldn't have been done for the wedding...

    My Torana Rebuild

Yeh, you're not wrong. Its definately different, but all in all I'm very happy with the new look. I just can't wait to get it back home and start putting it back together.

    My Torana Rebuild

You have to bear in mind that this is being built to be a street car, not a show pony. I'm really not interested in detailing the underside or the upkeep that's required to keep a detailed undercarriage looking its best. It's actually a ute tub liner, which should be very hard wearing and easy...

    My Torana Rebuild

Not really much to update at the moment. Painted a few bits and pieces satin black yesterday, including the top of the dash. Started rubbing down the outside today, hopefully get most of that finished tomorrow. It's getting painted next Saturday. 3 weeks until deadline.

    My Torana Rebuild

Panels are now LX, steering rack and K frame are all new (to this car). The only parts of the original engine bay metal left is 1/2 of the firewall and the chassis rails.

From this.... To this.... I'm fairly certain that not one single part has been reused in the engine bay.

    My Torana Rebuild

Haha, yeh not quiet. Once the motor is all in, although it's pretty much all complete, there is still a lot of little things to do. Things like wiring in the MSD 6AL, plumbing up the fuel system etc. ect. etc. Having said that, I'd really like to give the motor a fire up by the end of the week...

    My Torana Rebuild

Got the floor all done today. Took a lot longer than I anticpated cleaning bits and pieces up, but the result was worth it. Pics... So, with that all done, tomorrows job is to get the motor in and back on wheels.

    My Torana Rebuild

Oh ok. The hole in the bonnet will fit a 14" filter, but I kind of like the 9x6". If I get sick of it, I can always change to a 14", no big deal. 4" would give me room for a nitrous plate, should the need arise. The A9X scoop is definately full height wise though.
  29. 383 hatch

    My Torana Rebuild

Haha, thanks mate. Just quietly, this will be the best car I've ever owned when it's finished. I've never actually gone to this extent on a car before. It's far from a show car (I still maintain it'll just be a neat street car) but it'll be nice enough for me.

    My Torana Rebuild

Cheers mate, it's been a very long road, but I can see some light at the end of the tunnel now. Yeh, I know the filter is probably a bit of wank factor, but I figure if I have to run a scoop, I might aswell fill it up. The colour is mint julep, it's a factory Torana colour. Thanks mate.

    My Torana Rebuild

It's actually nothing like Ari's, this is just a solid colour, no metallic. No white roof for this baby, just the standard Torana style blackouts. Bonnet and around the window frames. Here is some photos from yesterday and today. On 4 wheels and outside for the first time in god knows how...

    My Torana Rebuild

So, pic dump. So that's the weekends efforts. There is plenty more pics to come from the last 2 days as I'm on holidays all this week. The pics do the colour of the engine bay and the paint work itself no justice, it looks killer in person. Things are definately progressing. Stay...

    good first cars?

I agree, when it comes to a daily driver/family car. I enjoy working on classic cars, but when it comes to a daily driver, you want something you can just turn the key on and not be forever under the bonnet fixing it.

    Electric water pump

I think he's talking about the pumps that bolt in place of the existing mechanical water pump, not the Davies craig style ones that just go in the bottom hose. Anyway, I really can't see what's wrong with a mechanical water pump to be honest. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I just...

How have people done there fibre glass reverse cowls to steal bonnets

Honestly, I think I'm yet to see a fibreglass scoop on a steel bonnet that doesn't have a crack or some sort of imperfection. I think you're much better off just buying a full fibreglass bonnet with the scoop already on it. Not sure on the legalities of fibreglass bonnets in Mackay though.
