    O2 sensor issues

My 2006 Calais had issues with fuel consumption and due to the km it's done I went to replace both pre-cat (sensor 1) bank 1 and 2 sensors. I bought aftermarket "machter" ones and the car threw a fit and showed engine light. These sensors have huge bearing on fuel consumption and mine also used...

    Rasping/Grinding noise - 6 speed auto

If the fluid hasn't been done in the last 60,000km - I'd recommend getting a fluid and filter change done. It might fix the grinding, but abnormal noises are an indication that damage may already be done to some component in the transmission. At the very least it might prevent it from worsening...

    Window seals

https://www.australianonlinecarparts.com.au/commodore-ve-vf-black-door-window-belt-mould-set-g I ordered these, along with new windscreen side trims/rubbers. They also sell the chrome ones. If it's just one side of the car you need, there's a seller on eBay that does them individually but I...

    Upgrading from VE to VF

Thanks for the replys guys I test drove a never registered 2017 VF II SV6 today with only 220km on the odometer just to get a gauge for if I should go ahead and I’m feeling conflicted. The salesman took me through a high speed country route for 20 minutes and the VF felt great - most...

    Ve Diff Oils?

I used Nulon full synthetic GL5 75w90 in my VE and the diff is as quiet and smooth as ever. I believe it meets the GM fluid standards and is available at most auto parts retailers.

    Upgrading from VE to VF

I'm looking at possibly upgrading from a 2006 Calais 3.6 to a VF II SV6 or Calais 3.6 - my new job is very heavy on driving and I'm considering the upgrade for the sake of reliability. I've had my VE for 2 years and it's now approaching 12 years old (137,000km) - has been mostly reliable but has...

    VE SV6 throttle lag

Had the throttle body replaced today on my V6 Calais and it’s much more responsive now. Acceleration was dodgy and there was no engine light up but it would sorta jolt you around and the revs would surge and hesitate for no reason. And it made whining and grinding noises before starting and...

    Need advice on new car

Update on that transmission problem - it was the throttle body. Holden replaced it and did calibration and the issues are all gone. Shifts perfectly!

    Need advice on new car

My Sep 06 MY07 Calais has the 3.6 Alloytec currently at 136,000km and so far no sign of chain stretch or failure. Though I hear there's a software update that "ignores" the chain stretching and will only alert the driver once it's way past due. Not sure how to check if the software has been...

    Holden ve ac

When the system is off, the vent position defaults to floor and outside air will collect via the front vent and travel out through the floor vents while driving at speed; my series 1 does it as well. If you're getting wisps of hot air when it's not needed, adjust to "SZ" single zone and "C" cold...

WM do i have sports or not sports suspension

The type of suspension can be found stamped on the identification plate tucked behind the air box in the engine bay. My 2006 Calais shows "SUSP FE2" on the silver placard - indicating sports suspension at factory Normal "FE1" suspension is listed as "SUSP STD"

    Recommend transmission service centre

Definitely get a pan drop filter + fluid change ASAP if you want a reasonable life out of the transmission. For the record, "sealed unit" is a completely misleading and wrong term used by car manufacturers; transmission oil will oxidize with age and heat as per any other synthetic or mineral...

    Pick your brains?

If you decided to swap the motor, it'd have to be an exact match. The computer software, hardware and all associated wiring is designed around the Alloytec 195 and 5 speed auto/6 speed manual package as far as I know. In terms of chain replacement, I know a few people who have gone ahead with...

    2008 model?

I know that I'm pulling up an ancient thread but between MY07 and MY08/8.5 I've noticed some differences. I have an MY07 Calais and my friend has an MY08.5 MY08.5 displays "fasten seat belt" animation with chime if driving with seatbelt unlatched, MY07 only displays a little red light without...

    New shocks/springs

I kept the factory FE2 springs on my '06 Calais sedan but changed the factory shocks out for KYB Excel Gs (lowered version for FE2) and what a difference. Got the strut top bushings replaced as well, drives a lot tighter and quieter.

VE SV6 air con - PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS...

The VE's fans wont actually kick in until the coolant temperature reaches 109c (when the air conditioning is off and vehicle speed is less than 30km/h) Seems hot, but apparently this is how they roll. Probably due to more efficient combustion at higher engine temps.

VE Omega - Two knock sounds after driving from parked.

Definitely sounds like an ABS/ESP self test. The Astra I had prior to my VE did this upon starting off each morning, sounds like running over a loose storm drain lid. *clunk, clunk*

    Seat belt warning behaviour

I've always been fond of cars with warnings and chimes. Feels interactive, safe and as if it's designed with the driver's wellbeing in mind. Despite it's bland and silent nature, my '06 Calais shows no signs of timing chain stretch or transmission failure at 122,000kms - so I'll keep it.

    Seat belt warning behaviour

Interesting! Must be a BCM software thing then. I drove around a couple of other VEs this week actually and tried it out. Both the MY08.5 and MY09 (calais and omega) that I drove chimed and came up with "Please Fasten Driver Seat Belt" or something with a little animation picture of the belt...

    Seat belt warning behaviour

Hi, I don't know if it's just mine or whether it's a standard VE thing, but I've noticed a little quirk with my '06 Calais in that during engine startup, the instrument cluster will chime (presumably to remind the driver to fasten seatbelt) but if I'm actually driving and my seatbelt comes off...

    interior dash noise in ve

I've got the exact same issue. A light tapping noise noise under the dash that isn't the air conditioning or radio and putting it into neutral/park doesn't help. Tapping gets faster and quieter with revs.

    '07 Calais Front Wheel Noise

An update: Noise is still here, seems to be getting worse. I've rotated my wheels and unfortunately there's no change. Coasting at 60 will make the whole car hum and buzz quite badly and touching the throttle changes the noise to a quieter hum, as does braking. Could anything else be at fault...

    98 Octane Fuel

My Astra hated Caltex fuel. Stalled twice and sounded like a dying blender when accelerating + engine light on a trip from Adelaide to Mt. Barker My VE has had a mix of 98 and 95 BP since I've owned it and it's been smooth as. From experience and the experiences of friends, stay away from...

    I need help! Stereo Problems!!

Sounds like the steering wheel controls themselves are malfunctioning. Could be stuck contacts, try give them a clean with some rubbing alcohol. Replacement of the controls might be necessary if cleaning doesn't solve it.

    Losing my steering wheel controls

I'll give the controls a clean and get in the grooves with some isopropyl alcohol. If that doesn't solve it, I'll just live with it. Seems like a communication issue rather than a switch problem since the rotary dials always work when browsing menus on the trip computer and the stereo is the...

    Losing my steering wheel controls

I'm trying to figure out if it's definitely the controls though. When they randomly stop working, my radio station no longer appears on the cluster. So it's like the head unit isn't communicating with the cluster or something.

    Losing my steering wheel controls

Morning, Since the day I got my VE Calais (Series 1, non V) I've noticed that the left hand controls (change track/preset on steering wheel) scroll wheel only sometimes works, also the station or track I'm on in the digital speedo window sometimes doesn't appear. If I spam the TRIP button on...

which fuel is appropriate for an '07 3.6? 91 or 95?

My '07 VE Calais 3.6 (195) favours 95. 98 causes it to shake on idle for some reason. Haven't tried 91 in it, but I think it's lived it's entire life (previous owner) on 91. Might explain the shaking. The Astra I had before the Calais would run like complete **** on 91 and needed 95+ to run...

VE 07 Calais V Interior Lights

Probably not helpful. But my dad's VEII SV6 had the steering wheel and gear selector lamps disappear for a while. After a software update at Holdens, they came back. Maybe pull the negative terminal off the battery for an hour and see if that helps.

    Lacklustre bass after IQ Upgrade

I agree with VPFreak. Unfortunately the iQ system isn't that great with sound unless amped. My dad has a 2013 VEII SV6 sedan and the sound is pathetic. Cranking the bass up to +12, you get distortion instead of bass. :( Meanwhile my VE1 Calais has the Blaupunkt head unit and it's punchy as...

    Air con query

Also I wanted to know if it's safe to drive around with this noise? I'm not that concerned if it won't cause any harm but piston shoes hitting a swash plate doesn't sound all that harmless (I could be wrong)
  35. A

    Air con query

You won't want it to go bang, since that usually sends shards of metal and other burnt rubber **** through the rest of the AC system and then you'd be up for a new condenser, lines etc. My Astra did that. Sold the car a few weeks after getting the $2000 worth of work done on it

    '07 Calais Front Wheel Noise

I'll have a look at the wheel in the morning and check that everything is done up right. If I'm going 60 and the noise is present, swerving left and right makes no difference.

    '07 Calais Front Wheel Noise

Hi everyone, A couple of days ago I bought my first Commodore, a 2007 Calais 3.6 with 116,000 on the clock and I'm pretty stoked with it! Drives beautifully and is such a smooth and powerful beast compared to the '03 Astra 1.8 it replaced. But I've noticed with the Calais a strange noise...

3.6 SIDI tapping after oil change

So my dad's SV6 was quite overdue for an oil change. Last done at 45,000 or so and it's hit 82,000 today. So very, very overdue. I went ahead and changed it all today with Nulon 5w30 fully synthetic and the car runs great. After a 10 minute drive around the suburb I pulled back up and noticed...

Your VE- What problems have you had

VE II MY12.5 SV6 Auto: After a week of owning it used, (14.5k on the clock) it decided to idle rough and accelerate sluggishly accompanied by a little orange engine light. A week later, it's right as rain. Subjectively crappy audio system. That's more of a feature though, not a fault. My...
