    6x9 installation

they are designed to power four loads. each of which is 4 ohms or more. so technically if you connected the speakers in series and not parallel it won't do any harm to the head unit. if you have your heart set on 6 speakers. get 6 speakers. it's not going to sound any better.

Yeah, I’m paranoid about damaging my rims as well. Do you find you get even tyre wear with that pressure? thanks

    Ground Point

You need to set some sort of specification for the voltage ripple in the supply voltage. If you said you wanted no voltage ripple (i.e. 0.001volts) for a 1KW sound system you would probably need hundreds, maybe even thousands of farads. It all depends on what sort of alternator you have and...

    Tyre Pressure

Hi Just a quick question. What sort of pressure should I have in my 18” tyres on my VT? Are the specifications on the inside of the door frame still ok to go by or should it be more in order to keep even pressure on the road since there is less tyre wall? I’m going camping this weekend and...

    Ground Point

Capacitors don’t do anything other than look good. In theory they work. In practice they are unable to hold enough charge to be effective for a 10000000000000W sound system. Do they still dim if you rev the engine a bit? Your alternator won’t reach its peak output power while the car is...

    6x9 installation

you would be better off getting 4 speakers and spending the extra money on the front ones and maybe getting an amp for them. if you are not getting a sub get some 6x9's for the back and some splits for the front. run the back speakers off the head unit and the front ones off an amp. if you...

    need help finding a sub!!

If you are looking for lots of bass for not much money get a sub with a ported box designed for it. The bass won’t be as tight as if it was a closed box but it will be a lot louder at the resonant frequency. Another down side is the box is about twice as big.

    Anyone want some cash?????

I can’t help you out sorry. I’m on the north side of Brisbane and am not heading to the south side in the foreseeable future. But something you could do yourself is buy some cable ties and group the wires together. Put a cable tie every 2 inches or something. Make it look a million times better...

    Asking For Opinion

I never liked sony head units. I love pioneer head units. They sound great, look great and have one of the best user interfaces around. Just got myself a DEH-P8850MP. I love it. However, you don’t need to spend a fortune. The lower end pioneer units are far better than their sony counterparts...

    How to Wire In-Car LEDS

their life span would depend on how well it was made my very first neon died after about 2 years. the gas eventually leaked out, they got very dim. the neons i have at the moment (ones from jaycar) are still going strong. had them for about 12 months. i looked into using LED's or neons...

    Who does that ?????

When someone ran up the back of me on coronation drive in Brisbane I rang “000”. WTF are you meant to do? as if I’m gonna call directory assistance. It was during peak hour so I guess it was kind of an emergency.

Why do you want pink speaker wire? There is no difference between normal wire and speaker wire. It’s all strands of copper insulated by plastic.

VT brake light doesn't work when headlights are on

Hey I recently had some repair work done to the back of my VT (someone ran up the back of me and caused $11500 of damage, it’s a long story). Anyway, tonight I realized that my right brake light doesn’t work. When I inspected the problem further I realized that when I turn my lights off...

    stop thieves

wow. that seems kinda complicated. I’d be inclined to lock any animals you have up and install a sensor light and in addition to the sensor light hook up a 12volt transformer to run your air horn and control when the alarm system is set with a master switch inside. or…….. get some really...

    worst prank

There is a lot more to an electric fence than just hooking it up to a car battery. Trust me. I make electric fence units at work. A typical electric fence unit puts out between 3000 and 9000 volts (depending on the load and the energizer design) which is a hell of a lot more than a car battery...

I fail to see how that would work. The metal grill you stand on is connected to the tray at the back of the urinal. And I don’t know about you. But I like to have shoes on when I use public toilets. I’d have thought they would insulate you. Also, the battery is low voltage.

    selling my car...

Yeah, the interior looks new. I’ve looked after it well. Sadly I won’t be getting another commodore due to ridiculous fuel prices that are just gonna get worse so I won’t be hanging onto my mags for my next car. Thanks for the advice guys.

    selling my car...

Hi I’m looking at selling my car. I have 18” mags, a good sound system and it’s a VT with 96000 on the clock. Just wondering how I would get the most money for it. should I sell the mags, stereo and car separately or just leave it as is and sell it that way? Thanks for any advice Phil...

If someone is drinking out of a tin can and they sit their drink down unattended poke a small hole in the side of it towards the top so that when they pick it up and drink out of it, it dribbles all over them. the best part is if they have had a few they forget about the hole in the can and...

    speakers losing magnetism

yeah, i know if you leave a magnet sitting there it's not gonna lose it's magnetism but if you bump it you rearrange the domains (i can't remember if that's what you call them or not) so they are no longer parallel. i just did a bit of reaserch and apparently new materials do not suffer from...

    speakers losing magnetism

As speakers get older they would lose their magnetism correct (due to the hot car environment and all the vibration they are subject to)? How would this impact speaker performance? More distortion? Lower power handling? Etc? I have a pair of JBL 6x9’s and I’m sure their magnets are not as...

    Clutch hydraulic system losing fluid.

Hey I recently noticed that my clutch is really easy to push in almost all the way and I have to push it right up hard against the firewall to disengage it. I had a quick look at the reservoir for the clutch fluid and it is empty. I had a look at I think it’s the master cylinder (the one...

    Good spot for amp?

Ok. can you explain your logic behind upgrading the grounds to a bigger gauge? Are you talking about grounds on the amps or the wire connecting the battery terminal to the chassis? If it's the wire connecting the battery to the chassis i can see what you are saying. I still don’t see how a...

    Good spot for amp?

When your lights dim is your motor running? If it is and the lights are dimming you probably need a bigger alternator. I don’t see how it would make your battery explode. It may shorten the life of the battery because when the lights dim you are interrupting its charge. It goes from being...

Neons in boot what amps they use

no, you CAN use the amp remote to trigger the relay. connecting neons directly to the remote wire will draw too much power. a relay is basically just a switch that turns on when you pass a current through one of it's terminals (make sure you get the right one). a small amount of current is...
