    That New Car Smell

I gave up on buying car air fresheners over the years. I found a much better way, and cheaper. Go to the supermarket and buy one of those little concentrated fabric softener refills (Cuddly etc). Lots of smells you can test in the store. Throw the plastic container under a seat or in a door...

I kept the OEM plugs in my W557 and they were fine.

Best place to get a FULL Intake and Full Exhaust Systems in Adelaide?

Paul Pavlou or Morpower. Used them both. Experts and good value. Used KPM some years back, not bad but not as good.

Piston slap LS3 - this is very interesting

Many differences between an LSA and LS3. Google will help. For example "Both LS9 and LSA are 6.2L engines biased on the LS3. Before you think that these motors just have a supercharger slapped on – you’d be dead wrong. Both are built to be 20% stronger than the LS3 short-block, according to GM...

    Fuel injector failure

It seems to me that this "bad" fuel hypothesis is nonsense. And by saying bad they surely don't mean "wrong fuel" else they would say wrong as compared to bad (contaminated, less than 91 RON). And if they thought the whole issue was bad fuel I would pretty much guess they would not be replacing...

    Oil additives

I previously never used an additive but doing my Golf R's post run-in oil change (my choice, not VW's) my Euro independent only uses Liqui Moly oils (OEM approved) and has suggested adding one of their additives which has been in the market almost 10 years and I have read 100s of +ve reviews...

Horn Chirp on Door Lock Setting VF2 Sedan

I used to have mine on passive auto lock on exit so I never had to worry. Took it off auto lock before having a service or detail only.

    VF Random chat thread

Might be of interest. The fun police are thriving in EU. My Golf R already has the capability to read speed signs (but no forced limiter) but it is turned off for Australia. While we are way behind EU with regard to the ability of this to function here, the fitment of data loggers is scary...

Current E85 availability list - United

When I had my L77 Calais, I have it dyno tuned for 98 then returned a few days later with E85 for another tune. A couple of things, the OEM stock tune for using 100% E85 was very very conservative and the other thing the tuner told me was that the ECU when calibrating the car based on the...

    Thoughts on Tyres

Another vote the the PS4S (I have purchased 3 sets over time. I am sure there are better track tyres but they are not overkill for a daily imo. Just their performance in braking tests (wet and dry) is enough to save a like on the road not withstanding all their other great attributes

    My Holden days are numbered

In my wildest dreams, I never considered my post about selling my Holden would lead to a discussion about fitting 5 fully assembled dead prostitutes in the boot of a 2004 Maxima. Then, with you lot I guess it was inevitable. Cheers.:)

    My Holden days are numbered

Forg, what you say about DSG is true for the older ones, especially the dry clutch one. The newer 6 and 7 speed wet clutch boxes seem very reliable. Very little negative stuff on the net about the wet clutch versions. I love them.

Yes, still going strong in George St. His workshop is like going to a car show with what he works on.

    My Holden days are numbered

No Rapiers stay with the car, sorry. I used Paul Pavlou motors for a number of years. But have in the past used Morpowa and Willall. Paul Pavlou is on my side of town but Morpowa are great as well if they are close.

    My Holden days are numbered

Pick up a new Golf R Special Edition on Tuesday after much thought. My 2017 Senator with W557 was becoming a garage queen as I am noticing that my reflexes etc. are slowing down as I move closer to 70 years of age. Car needs to go to somebody that will get more frequent pleasure out of it. Great...

    Fuel injector failure

Am my conclusions correct. The HSVs with the LSA have larger injectors from stock. It seems all the issues are I have read about are not from LSA engines. In any event I now have even larger injectors with the Walky upgrade. I assume the injector issue is nothing for me to be concerned about?

    Over filled oil at service

Every single time I have had a service on my previous car (L77 Calais) or my current LSA HSV it is always slightly overfilled (about 6mm)which used to bug me until I realised that the over fill while noticeable on the dipstick it was really only less than half a litre. This happened at two...

Sudden Loss of Power Steering WHEN DRIVING

Not sure of the reality of this but just saw this on FB. Interchiller

Thanks, I will check it out.
  23. R

    Interchiller

What I am getting is the interchiller, the race solenoid (which lets you turn off the AC to the inside of the car via a switch and just have it chilling the air intake), the lid-spacer and the bigger reservoir for the normal intercooler.

    Interchiller

Just ordered an interchiller for the 30th Anniversary Senator with the W557 Walky kit. Booked in for fitting 3rd December. Will let you know the difference it makes.

ECU tuning - is it technically legal

Yes Walkinshaw supply a generic tune but then it is customized on the dyno to suit the car. At least with my W557. I spoke with the State distributor for WA and SA about ADR and he told me but that does not necessarily mean they meet different jurisdictions requirements. There is no way a W557...

    LS3 CAM 224/228 OR 224/232 CHOICE

This is what Walkinshaw use in their W557 222/228 LSA116. Lift .585/.591. Minute surge in the auto, hardly notice after warm up. Nice chop and shake at idle but the tuner can adjust that side of it.

    LS engines burning oil ?

I don't have the knowledge and am only going by what they have told me. I assume the rwkw idea might just be a proxy for the guys that get to those high levels by turning up the boost and hence getting more blow-by. Plus I also assume that the guys with the big power are getting past 5000 rpm on...

    LS engines burning oil ?

Thanks for your (and others comments). South Australia has two very good Walkinshaw fitters/tuners that both rate 5 star (Paul Pavlou and Morpowa). I use one and following the feedback, I called the other. Both have told me the same thing. If I did drags, track or the car spent a lot of time at...

    LS engines burning oil ?

My Calais L77 blown and NA never used oil (25k). Nor does my LSA with 557 pack. I do use Mobil 1 and change it every 4/5 months and after a year I have done 5k. My tuner said a catch can would be needed for track work but for street stuff wasn't really worth the effort.

    Dangers of not using car

You will be fine. Just change oil by time as mentioned rather than ks and try not to do the ks in short trips often, so the oil can get to proper temp amd burn off whatever.

Am I right in saying we cannot legally turbo the VF?

I may have led people astray about one thing. I said the car was brand new. It now has 4k on it and I had the W557 fitted after I bought the car as I wanted a few thou on the speedo before putting the car on a dyno. But could have had it done by the dealer pre delivery to me.
  32. R

Am I right in saying we cannot legally turbo the VF?

As many would know, I have the W557 package on the 2017 HSV. No way would it pass emissions in any State nor would a few other things in South Australia. In SA, you cannot make changes to the ECU, camshaft, cats and intake manifold. Period. No engineer Cert can overcome those things. So my car...

Am I right in saying we cannot legally turbo the VF?

Walkinshaw state that the W557 is ADR compliant ADR are National standards. But ADR compliant is not the same as legal with regard to what the different States rules are with regard to modification.
  34. R

Am I right in saying we cannot legally turbo the VF?

No, I have no mod plate at all. Walkinshaw claim that their gear meets ADR but what is "legal" varies from State to State. Once you cam etc unless you run E85 passing emissions would be extremely difficult imo.
  35. R

Am I right in saying we cannot legally turbo the VF?

You have the Walkinshaw W407? What was involved in getting it plated (engineer cert.)?
  36. R

    Vf clubsport burnout issue

When I turn TC/esp off in my 2017 Senator,it is not 2 stage like my old Calais. It is all or nothing after holding the button down. While the Senator has Tour, Sport and Performance modes when TC/ESP is off the mode changes from whatever it is to "off".
  37. R

Am I right in saying we cannot legally turbo the VF?

And you get a lot more than 80kW. A very different stronger motor in the LSA, oil trans and diff coolers, stronger driveline from trans right through to diff and shaftes etc.

    Post tunes

I think I have mentioned this before. Not only do you need before and after but which before? My car which was spending its life in city traffic and driven conservatively usually, gained around 30-40 rwkw over 4 runs. Each run gained around 10rwkw. This was purely because the Ecu was...
