The check powertrain message could be anything. You'd be better off getting the codes checked before spending any money on unnecessary parts. My car had the powertrain warning, and it turned out to be a faulty oil pressure switch (and it ran perfectly fine).

It's possible the Crewman was similar enough to the sedan and wagon that it didn't need a huge amount of work to fit the side airbags. Two ideas (possibly too obvious) is the car immobilised and have you unlocked with the key blipper? The other thing I would guess is the park/neutral switch isn't bypassed?

I tried this menu yesterday on the way home. Just be warned that when you get to the end of the menu ALL the dash warning lights come on at the same time, and the speedo and tacho will change and it will make a loud beep. Not something you want to learn when driving in traffic!
