Dave's new nugget... VT II Calais L67

Soooo a whopping 18 months later.... And not a whole lot has changed. I moved to Canberra late in 2017 for a new job and the urgency that was required to get new accommodation meant that I had to give up having a double garage where I could do my work. Because of that I haven't been able to do...

    MPS Shift Kits

Have had one in mine for about 2.5 years now. Had to replace the solenoids in the trans about nine months or so afterwards, but thats not an uncommon problem even in an unmodified auto. Shifts hard enough from first to second, without being too hard. It does take a bit of getting used to but...

    vy struts

If also coming from a VY, and sedan to sedan,or ute to ute etc., then yes. VZ struts won't work because the sway bar link mount is different.

Uniacidz Ride VX SS Monaro Themed

Solenoids aren't that big of a deal to replace and it isn't an uncommon problem with these boxes. So it's good that it's only that and not something bigger. I think I paid about $200-$250 for both solenoids and a trans service about a year ago so shouldn't be too pricey.

    Richie's VT Exec - VX SS Kitted - A tidy 6 banger

Good luck with the window conversion, have found from recent experience that theres not much room to work with inside the door frame!

Good on you fighting the fine, sounds like you got lucky with the quick turnaround becuase I know my mum had to wait weeks for her fine to get cancelled (dick copper wrongly saying she overtook on double unbroken lines). Nice pick up on the battery too

Quick supercheap subwoofer and head unit install

Nice write up. However if you get an opportunity next time, it might be a good idea to run the RCA wiring away from the power wiring and not down the same side to prevent any later possibility of engine noise being introduced into the signal - although probably not so much of an issue with a...

They are the 18 inch version in fact, I do remember two of the tyres were kumho from memory. All the tyres were had it. I picked the whole set up at a wreckers from $120, from memory.

Also a couple of weeks back I got around to changing my battery for an Optima D34. I managed to get one for a steal at Repco when they had a 35% off voucher ($245!!!) and the original battery drained in the week I'd spent doing all the re-wiring for the stereo, so it seemed prudent to replace it...

OK, so very belated updates (again) since I've now been bothered to save all my photos from Pissbucket... About six weeks ago, coming home from work the car suddenly starts shaking terribly on acceleration and marked loss of power. Luckily I was only a couple of hundred metres from home, so was...

A couple of weeks ago I installed the amps amd sub. I used the mounting panel out of my old VT, but I still needed to find somewhere to mount my third amp. I cut up some MDF and bolted it onto a steel panel behind the carpet that was previously used for bolting the OEM amp. As it is a daily...

Well last month I had a few weeks off work, which I'd planned to tackle some larger, more involved tasks on the car. Didn't get half of what I wanted done. But what I did do was complete most of the interior work, which involved: - Replacing the carpet (which was torn and water damaged from a...

Continuing the theme of building this up as a weekend racer along with it being a fun daily, I picked up a Whiteline 30mm front swaybar second hand for $110 early this year. Hope to fit it fairly soon.

Dave's new nugget... VT II Calais L67

I then spent a few weekends slaving away on those wheels that I bought with the intention of using them for racing. I probably spent a whole day just filling and sanding. I then laid down a few light coats of primer. One of the rims before starting: After sanding/grinding the gashes and...

Extremely belated updates... Have been doing plenty of jobs on the car, feels like I spend most weekends on it. So this is what I've been up to the last six months: Got a VX Berlina garnish and tail lights from the wreckers. Had to do a bit of rewiring, which involved running some longer wires...

^ this... I got my last lot of carpet for my sub mounts from Bunnings. Alternatively a good carpet shop would have various grades of marine or automotive carpet

    Calliper grease, what's recommended

A synthetic grease is the way to go. I just did this myself the other day and I used red rubber grease on the caliper slide pins, but a silicone grease or paste can be used also. Supercheap should stock it, I bought two tubes for $13.50 the other day. A regular grease will cause the rubbers to...

Meanwhile, over the long weekend I took the opportunity to install the lowered springs, shocks and strut brace that I'd had in the old daily. I also ordered a thicker Superpro rear swaybar for $200 a week earlier and installed that too. Popped my old Supers on once I was done! :D car looks...

Thanks for the kind words so far. Re: the dodgy roady, I still have a copy of it showing the place that provided it, but I wouldn't be able to prove it and they could always say the problems occurred after the roady was given. I can't even rule out the previous owner doing the dodgy themselves...

Also picked up these puppies for $100 recently... I have supers to go on it but I'll clean these up, fill the gashes and scrapes, sand and repaint and put some street/track tyres or semi slicks on them for racing

The final major mod I've completed up until now is a custom MACE-style CAI. The material is 3mm perspex and I've formed it using a heat gun. All up, the cost was probably about $140 or so, but that included $45 for the heat gun, which I've already been able to make use of for other things. It...

Next up was seats... The front seats were a bit worse for wear when I bought it. The driver's seat had been reupholstered at some point but the bolsters were flogged out. The passenger seat had a number of small tears in it. I had the VE SSV foams and leather trim sitting in a wardrobe from...

First mod was a shift kit from MPS in Thomastown... the scan revealed some minor transmission fault so I took it to them because I wanted to get a shift kit anyway... for $200 plus trans service I couldn't complain. The guy there hooked up to his scanner but it couldn't find any fault; he took...

Howdy all, well after a fairly lengthy layoff from JC after my last daily bit the dust, I'm back, this time with a new daily that is a bit of an upgrade on the last :D Unfortunately when I bought it, it was a private sale and I was in a rush to get something as I need a daily to get around...

Yeah it was written off. They classed at as a repairable write off so I could have fixed it but wasn't worth it really. They gave me what I wanted for it though. They let me keep it, so I spent a few weekends pulling stuff off it, namely the wheels, headlights, suspension, leather steering wheel...

But in reponse to your question about the strut brace, I've read about blokes just dropping the top of the strut out to one side to get enough room to pop the bolts up through the holes drilled, but it was much easier for me while I was replacing the struts anyway to do it then.

I do have an update, possibly the last one ever unfortunately :( A few weekends ago I got crashed into by a stupid old fool who went straight ahead instead of staying in his lane turning right... and went straight into my rear driver's side door. He's gone into it at a fair speed, enough to...

Now I've finally got some low :D Took the opportunity of a long weekend to finally get the suspension in... Over the last day and a half, on and off I dropped in replacement struts, springs and shocks all round, and fitted the factory VY strut brace. It probably doesn't really look that low...

Man that is pretty poor luck :( are you going to transplant any goodies you had into the new eco? Pity you can't get that L67 blown eco now, it might work out the same price or cheaper to do it now, rather than get a replacement eco now then L67 later on?

Backlash Automotive in Hoppers does guard rolling. Haven't used them myself (plan to in the near future) but there seem to be plenty of people who've taken their Commodores there for just that kind of work.

I think so... It's hard to tell because atm the motor is pretty much stock. I've got all the MACE gear ready to go in, but I need a lot of spare time to do all that AND polish and fit the plenum at the same time. I'm about to start a temporary promotion role as a manager so it's less likely I'll...

Picked up these puppies for a steal on the weekend - $140!!! They were also bought as separate items, all of these factors contributing...

Well i got the car back from getting the exhaust done, and I must say I'm a bit disappointed. I'd hoped it'd be louder... While the note has clearly changed and is now deeper, it is still pretty quiet, especially at idle. You can't hear anything in the cabin unless you gun it, and even then it's...
