    Sub & speakers not working

Sub is bridged across channel 3/4. It's sounding better now. Certainly lots of movement. Just need to experiment with all the settings. BTW should the sub box be ported or sealed? I know this gets asked many times but there doesn't seem to be much history on the forum to look through...

    Sub & speakers not working

Some good news and some bad news and some good news. The good news is it wasn't the amp after all. Turns out the main fuse from the battery was loose in the holder. Crimped the holder in a little to get a nice tight fit and away she goes. The bad news is that I didn't work that out until I...

    Sub & speakers not working

I had the head unit on but volume turned right down. I have just got back from Jaycar with a new 4x100 amp. They have them on sale for $269 this week. Thanks for the tip about the gain.

    Sub & speakers not working

Ok. An update. I put some spare speakers on and plugged an mp3 player in as suggested. Nada. Something else that was bugging me is that when I check the voltage across the power leads with the amp off it measure 12v, but when I turn the head unit on, and hence the amp powers up, it drops to...

    Sub & speakers not working

No offence taken. I don't think I can lay my hands on another amp, but I do have some old speakers (the originals out of the commy) and I hadn't even thought of plugging an MP3 player into the input. That I can do. I did try plugging the leads from the HU into the aux input of a portable stereo...

    Sub & speakers not working

He he. I should add this is my first amp so I am easily impressed :yeah: . By flash I mean, apart from the shiny chrome finish, it has a lot of controls for setting input and output levels. I don't mind too much replacing it if it really is cactus - something a bit more compact and in a better...

    Sub & speakers not working

Hi, I recently acquired a new car but the sub and front speakers are not working. It has a Pioneer headunit which I swapped with Pioneer from my other car with same results. The rear 6x9s are coming straight off the head unit and they work fine. The front splits and Pioneer sub come off a...

    VTII jerking under load

Did plugs and leads today. Early indications are positive. Pulled straight up the hill. Much smoother when cold and no sign of the problem so far. cheers

    VTII jerking under load

Ok. Plugs and leads are easy to do so will give that a go first. Air filter is fairly new but will check it anyway. Thanks for the replies. Andrew

    VTII jerking under load

I am hoping someone can help me. I did a search but found nothing. Have a VTII Berlina with around 135k on the clock. When under load, say pulling up a hill, it tends to give a strong kick, like it's missed a beat. It's especially bad in top gear, until it changes down (auto) and the revs...

    6x9s in a VT

The option I took was to run new wires to the HU from the parcel shelf and disconnect the rear door speakers. Sounds fine for my needs and no need for an amp.

    VT wiring harness??

Hi dbun, Went through some pain getting the antenna working on my VT, but is actually quite simple. Here is the guts of it. 1. If you use the wiring harness as most people suggest, then it will connect the blue wire from the HU to the Yellow/Red in the wiring harness. This tells the antenna...

Installing front splits urgent help please

I am assuming the VX is much the same as my VT. I installed the left hand crossover behind the end panel of the dashboard. Plenty of room and metal to screw it into without hitting any wiring behind it. On the right hand side I put it under the dash at the top of the fuse panel just to the right...

Head Until In A VT Berlina

Antenna goes UP, Antenna goes DOWN I know this is going back a while but I finally got time to have another go at my antenna and finally have it working again. Here are the key facts: 1. If you use the wiring harness as most people suggest, then it will connect the blue wire from the HU to...

Head Until In A VT Berlina

I got mine from Autobarn at Slacks Creek (in Brisbane). They guy reckons they are genuine Holden although they didn't come in a Holden packet, so maybe just made by someone for Holden. Not cheap, cost about $35 but fit much better than the cheap one I got first (and took back). I used the...

Head Until In A VT Berlina

Same car, same stereo. Jaycar splits, Pioneer 6x9s (but no sub or amp). Very happy with result. Plenty enough bass for me. As for the head unit prob, I ended up pulling the dash apart and screwing the HU directly into the mount. It's not trivial and lining it up is tricky. You have to...

Does the 'dore have the crappiest horn in the world or is it just mine?

I had cause to use my "audible alert device" today for the first time in anger and was amazed at how bad it was. I don't think I would get out of my own way on hearing that. Sounds like it was under water. Are the VT's known for a crappy horn or is it just mine. What have people replaced them...

    Getting car up on ramps

Hadn't thought of the towell. That's the kind of trick I am looking for. Might give it a go. Even stock standard the front fouls on the ramp so last time I used a couple of pavers in front of the ramp to drive up on first to get more clearance. Ended up just leaving it up on the pavers when the...

    Getting car up on ramps

I was just wondering what tricks others might use. I normally like to change the oil with the front of the car up on ramps. A front wheel drive is easy - just drive it up, but when I try with the commodore, once the front wheels get up on the ramp, it just pushes the ramps along the garage...

    vt door speaker wiring.

I mounted the left hand crossover behind the small plastic panel on the end of the dashboard. The right hand one is just behind the fuse cover panel at the top. Both reasonably easy to mount and get to. Also the tweeters in the original location. Easy to get to and sounds great.

    Installing Rear 6x9's in VT

Hi Harro_vt, welcome. Don't worry about starting with a question. I was the same, and probably most here. I have installed 6x9s in my VTII, as well as a head unit and front splits. Not sure why you want to disconnect the original rear speakers in the door. Do you plan to run wires from...

Do you mean the door or the ignition? Pretty sure the ignition has one but haven't noticed anything on the door. Never use it anyway 'cause it sets off the alarm.

    help with sound system...

The only thing I find with my setup (Pioneer 6x9s plus Jaycar splits off Pioneer HU) is that I have to fade towards the front. The 6x9s are pretty loud straight off the HU so if you amp them and not the fronts, I guess they will be even louder at the back. I would probably do it the other way round.

    help with sound system...

Mate, I have just put in exactly that, except for the amp. It is plenty load and deep enough for me and I really can't see an amp improving it much. As for the wiring adapters, I still used one. You still need power, acc, dimmer, antenna from it and an adapter made it easier. I also hooked up to...

    noise pollution

I expect it comes down to how many complaints from your neighbors and how far from your house they are complaining. I wouldn't worry too much if you are on your own property. Unless you somehow manage to contain the sound within your property boundary then that means nothing. For the cops to...

    Perfect Rock Sound System

Mate, I just put in a new head unit (Pioneer), 6x9s in the shelf and 6.5" Jaycar splits up front and it sounds great and I listen to Rock generally. Once I fiddled with the head unit settings (loadness, EQ-EX, etc) - more bass than I need. It really sounds good with the components at the front...

ugly drink holders in a vt berlina

I usually take the rings off and throw it in the glove box. Makes a useful tray for coins, mobile, and other crap. If you have a drink, just pop the rings back on. Too easy.

Will 6.5" Jaycar splits fit in VT front door?

I ended up going with the Jaycar and I am about 3/4 through installing them. The tweeters were straight forward, but as predicted, the door speakers were difficult. I was able to do it without completely removing the door trim as was suggested in another post. Basically I couldn't get the little...

Will 6.5" Jaycar splits fit in VT front door?

Does anyone make a true 6" component set that would fit straight in the door for around the $150 mark? Or is the bit of fiddling around worth the effort for the Jaycar splits?
  36. M

Will 6.5" Jaycar splits fit in VT front door?

Ok, so a bit of plastic cutting/filing. What about the door itself. Any probs mounting the speaker in the hole? I saw a thread that suggested taking a hammer to the door. The magnets look quite big on the 6.5s. Maybe I should look for a 6" and separate tweeter and splitter.
  37. M

Will 6.5" Jaycar splits fit in VT front door?

I am up to phase 2 of my upgrade which is to replace the front speakers. The Jaycar splits look to be highly recommended for the money, but I just want to be sure the 6.5" speakers will fit in the doors of a VT without major surgery.

Parcel shelf removal in a vt

The trick to getting the plugs out is to lever them up a little bit with a flat blade screwdriver, then slip a pair of long nose pliers under the head. Then you can lever the plug pretty much straight out. Put a screwdriver under the tips of the pliers so that you keep pulling the plug out...

    Speakers

Splits are split or component speakers. A 6" in the front door and a tweeter mounted under or on top of the dash plus usually a crossover hidden away somewhere. You can get the grills from Autobarn for $45 a pair. All depends on what your aim is. Do you just want to replace speakers or...
