    Holden to retire Commodore SS

At least they are retiring the SS badge.... they really should retire the commodore name too for now. I think the insignia will go the way of the Epica and Malibu. And the VXR AWD model most probably will be priced more than a SV6...

    I need to be educated

When the VE came out HSV started quoting power figures in DIN, in line with the majority of the worlds manufacturers. Prior to that, all was quoted in ECE which yields a lower figure.

    Demise of the Forum?

oh and yes... SAY NO TO FACEBOOK the internet was much much better before like 2007 or so, as its in this period that the average joe public started using it everyday... pretty much **** has been downhill since... (oh and apple but don't get me started on that...)

    Demise of the Forum?

im thinking same, P-plate laws and that fact that apparently more and more gen y's don't give a stuff about cars, get their licence at a much later on average age than previously.. I think the P plate laws are probably the worst, its when you're young and full of crazy ambitious ideas that...

Future value of our LS3 Powered VF Series 11

4.3 litres vs 4.2 litres... long stroke vs short stroke.... would have all depended on the gearing and weight of vehicle... On the VF, Todays cars don't seem to rust as much as old cars. When you look at 20 year old commo's now, ie VR onwards, they're in so much better shape than any of the...

Future value of our LS3 Powered VF Series 11

I loved my torana, was a real drivers car. Back in the early nineties, monaros could be had for as little as ~4K. I bought a HX 4 door, original 308 and m21 4speed, for $1600, I then used the engine + gearbox + radiator and placed it in my UC torana....I had the torrie from 93 till mid 2000. 5...

    VZ SS 2006 L76 & L98 what's the difference ??

The block is the same in the ls2, l98, l76, l77. ( ie same block, same bore/stroke) The difference is the heads/cam/intake/compression/pistons etc

Future value of our LS3 Powered VF Series 11

the difference between now and 17 years ago (late 90's), is that nobody wanted or thought that the 70's and 60's cars will become now very desireable. Also the fact that we just had a '2nd muscle car boom' and you have this mentality that cars are going to be worth mothballing... probably the...

    /// KBAGZ' Impulse R8 Clubsport

Looks great. Im liking the hsv/flag badge you've put on the boot, I've been thinking about it myself. And the rear window blinds thingy's. I like them too. How's your roof lining, mine has just started to come off at the front from next to the sun visor :(

i daily mine at the moment, and have been since i have got it. But because i loove it so much i want to keep for as long as i can (20+ years) so im going to look at buying a brand new 4cyl shitbox (15-25K, i havent decided what yet) for the daily work grind (its a 75km round trip)... as i want...

    VZ starts then immediately stops

i know this one.. its the immobiliser!! sometimes its just not working, therefore the car starts and stalls straight away. Its intermittent now, but eventually it will fail completely. i'va had similar on my VX SS and later on my VY II SS... hope that helps :)

    Mark's 2005 VZ Clubsport

man u gotta love the VZ... not sure about you, but i would be keeping it as stock as possible, just a few tastefull mods etc, with Holden gone, there's going to be a cheap v8 shortage in the next decade. HSV's are just too good to just chop up/throw away bits etc. For example, if i were out...

can a bad cat converter cause car to stall?

when my vx SS blew a cat, it lost power and was almost undriveable, and after a short time wouldnt start etc.. get a new one quick.

    Best VT I've seen

yeah but pushing that kind of power through a straight line is fine.. try handling some corners. basically without major engineering changes to suspension, chassis etc you're not gonna push more than 300kw through corners safely on a road registered legal car.
  19. A

    Best VT I've seen

note that a VZ power is stated in ECE, wheras VE's are quoted in DIN standard of measurement. 297Kw ECE = 305 kw DIN.. the VE LS2 is only 2kw more than the VZ ls2

    Best VT I've seen

the ls1 was detuned simply becasue the jump from the 179kw VT 5.0 was going to be too big. Even at 220kw, it was a big jump. (195kw in HSV's 5.0/220kw holden 5.7 stroker went to 250kw ls1/300kw c4b) The Vt-VZ chasis is engineered to safely hold 400hp (~300kw) The VE was designed to be the next...

Purchasing a 2012 ve ss commodore

To the OP. This has got to be the most childish full of ########s car forum on the internets in Aus. Its like all the idiots from Street commodores forum have migrated here. The amount of crap/bad information on here is staggering to say the least. If your not already on there, i would...

Wanting some info on the Ls1 engine

manual only. for any sort of driving, apart from straight line dragging and highway cruising the auto is absolutely crap. It has 1 less gear that is very important. 3rd in an auto is the same ratio (1:1) as 4th in a manual.(4th in auto is equivalent to 5th in manual). Therefore you have that...

    my 05 vz

yeah my trip computer was out by 1ltr/100k's over a tank of fuel on my VY SS. ie it would read 15ltr/100k's but when u did the calculation manually by filling up and noting the distance travelled over how much fuel you put in, it would work out to 14ltr/100k's. I haven't checked my VZ clubbie...

question, how do you get any grip at all with those mods and 4.11 diff gears? Honestly i have heaps of trouble keeping mine from going sideways with anything over 1/2 throttle in 1st and 2nd. I have 18's with yoko's advan sport 235/40 tyres (came out with pirelli corsas semi-slicks) and the car...

    VZ need advice!

No probs. I have the VZ clubbie and also a e46 320ci 6cyl coupe i drive back to back to and from work, and the clubbie is right up there if not better (has to deal with more than 2x the power too, ie/120kw/~1450kg to 297kw/1643kg . I think the effort to make a commodore handle better is well...

    VZ need advice!

if i didnt know what i was doing (like now lol) i would just try to imitate hsv's setup as opposed to trial and error of a jumble of bits and pieces, hoping it will achieve a good result, and thats just my conclusion from previously owning ss's etc. If you think you know what you are doing, than...

    VZ need advice!

yeah thats the thing, most people, including myself are pretty clueless overall how hsv achieve their setup. I should have added, that done correctly, hsv's can be improved, but its not just a case of throwing in lower springs etc.
  33. A

    VZ need advice!

like has been mentioned, lowering the car doesnt improve the handling alone. I went from a VX SS with after market lowred springs to a stock FE2 VY II SS to a VZ clubbie and the difference is amazing. I have no idea how hsv do it, but if i were to do up the suspension on a Exec/Sv6/SS again...

2004 Vz Commodore Oil Sludge Buildup Please Help

i had a blocked oil pickup on my 5oh, turned out someone (previous owner/mechanic) used silicon sealer on the sump to seal/stop it from leaking. Prolly worked well expect all the excess sealer ended up in my oil pickup. So clean oil pickup, then flush engine. see how u go from there i guess.

    19s or 20s

lol if have a 6 ltr, ure going to have traction issues, especially in an earlier commodore. My car came out with 18" semi-slicks (pirelli corsa) 235/40 and currently i have yokohama advan sports on and basically in my VZ i cant use more than 1/2 throttle in 1st, 2/3 throttle in 2nd without...
