    [SA] Wanted Tech 1 Cartridges

I have a complete Tech 1 with VN to VS cartridges. I don't know if it works so willing to let the whole lot go for $35. Cartridges have been tested in another Tech 1 and all work.

Sick of people complaining about speed Cameras?

I have seen mobile speed cameras being used on the Tulla where it has four lanes each way, and it made me wonder how they decide which car was speeding if there is more than one car in the picture. Is it possible the camera agency just guess, or always go for the car in the right hand lane...

    The Stupid Drivers Thread

How about the truckie that didn't secure his load properly and dropped sections of 2m diameter concrete pipe all over the Westgate Freeway last week? Seems pretty stupid to me. You see so many idiots on the way in to Melbourne every day that it becomes normal - tailgating, hogging the right...

    Tell me your insurance stories!

Someone reversed into my girlfriend's Astra in a carpark while she was sat in it. The other people admitted fault immediately and the claim was processed pretty quickly. It damaged the rear quarter right on the wheel arch flare which I knew would be a drama to repair and shape correctly without...

    Children's favourite food

Nah my kids definately wouldn't eat cats. :rofl2: Chicken nuggets, chips, sausages, pizza are more their style. And my daughter loves her veggies but I would think she's in a minority.

    HOLDEN-IQ in Series 1

As far as I can remember, a fair bit of the dash has to be changed as the displays are different. Head unit alone is over $1500. Then you would need to work out which wiring needs to be changed, which other bits the IQ system needs added to function properly, and how/if it can all be linked...

what a great start to the day this morning...

It IS the law - you can be fined and receive demerit points for an offence which is "Drive at night or in hazardous conditions without appropriate lights"

    HOLDEN-IQ in Series 1

The short answer is no. It would be far too involved and probably end up being cheaper to sell the car and buy a Series II. Just to give you an idea, you can't even fit satnav to a Series II after it's left the factory because there is no way of linking it all up. I priced it for several...

    Bonnet gas struts

I did a how to on it ages ago. It's still here somewhere. VR or VS struts will fit. You just need a nut that will fit on each of the studs that come out of the bonnet as there are no threaded holes on VN bonnets. Here's the link to the how to...

    caps lock time

If someone comes in to work and says they are a returned serviceman then we give them trade price. It would be worth asking your local Holden dealer. And it's not just parts interpreters who get things wrong. I had a customer call me and ask for a Tonneau for an XY ute. When I questioned him...

Would like to hear suggestions :) [PICS!]

Insurance wise my Lexcen cost me about two thirds of what it would cost me to insure the equivalent VR Commodore. No difference in build quality though IMO - they all use prety much identical parts (except for the obvious exterior styling bits).

Would like to hear suggestions :) [PICS!]

Yeah doesn't look bad. You can always swap the front end for a Commodore one if you don't like it - just guards, bar and a bit of moving wiring. Possibly a Lexcen might be less likely to have been thrashed than a Commodore too!

Auto to manual trany conversion cost?

My conversion kit cost me $900, but there were still some extra bits I had to get to finish it off. I'd hate to think what a mechanic would charge to fit it though.

nsw politicle party backs speeding & burnouts

Well they are claiming to be a 'smart green' party after all. ^^^ I think most of their policies make a lot of sense although there would be a few in there that I disagree with. They have clearly been listening to what the general public is saying, but it would remain to be seen whether they...

Bridging vs park/neutral switch for manual conversion

You have to bridge the two grey wires. I did mine yesterday by putting a short length of wire with a male spade connector at each end into the connector for each of the grey wires. Without this (or the park neutral switch in the correct position) the motor shouldn't crank at all. If it cranks...

    Who hit my car??

Nah it wasn't me either! But two days ago someone scraped right down the side of my girlfriend's new car in a carpark, then went without leaving a note or anything. And when I say right down the side I mean all the way down the door, rear quarter and on to the rear wheel!! I can't see how anyone...

Preventing vehicle collisions / accidents on our roads

Personally I don't think there is any way to stop accidents happening - no-one ever means to have an accident! There is always going to be people who lose concentration, don't see something they should, etc. And there is always going to be c**kheads on the road too. As far as...

    Wheres the F**king spark plugs

The coil pack sits on top of the spark plugs. I think it's held in by a couple of torx bolts. Should be able to see it easily enough if you have the engine cover off. There aren't any spark plug leads on an '05 Barina (if it's an XC).

Shortstuff's VR wagon - in progress!

Did a manual conversion last week. It goes ok but the starter motor I got with the conversion is rooted so i'm driving my girlfriend's old EF Falcon at the moment! Got to sort the wiring and put the interior back together then it needs a good clean and i'll get some decent pics!

    '05+ Astras.... any good?

We've just bought an '05 AH CD coupe for my girlfriend. It's a very nice car to drive and is manual so hopefully no gearbox problems! '05 onwards the timing belt interval is 90000km or 6 years. I'd also recommend changing the water pump at the same time as the timing belt because if the water...

Shortstuff's VR wagon - in progress!

Thanks! Yeah i'm hoping to put VS II Calais seats and door trims in soon. Loads of bits I want to do to it but i'm happy just doing it slowly. I replaced the trailing arms today and fitted an adjustable panhard rod which has made the rear end much tighter. More to come next week!! Also got...

Shortstuff's VR wagon - in progress!

I fitted a H4 HID conversion tonight. It was pretty easy to do (got a kit that just plugs in) but had a few problems along the way. All good now and I have nice bright bluish lights : ) Also got a slimline number plate for the front. Here's a crappy phone pic!
