    Issues zb

Makes sense to me, may as well while the job is being done. Even if it was dirty fuel that caused it, they fixed it under warranty so despite the pain in the butt it didn't cost anything.

    Issues zb

I wonder if that's what happened because they cleaned the tank and fuel lines, (they did ask if I'd recently filled up but that wasn't the case) but that might also be standard procedure when replacing injectors. Finally got it back two weeks after the injectors were installed. Apparently there...

    Issues zb

The car is on a novated lease because I knew I'd be doing a lot of k's. The plan was to swap it out in July when the lease was up, but it's been a nice car to drive and figured I'd go another year. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Had a Triton as a work vehicle four years back. What a heap of crap that is.

    Issues zb

Apparently it's the injectors. Bloke at the service centre asked me how long I had on the warranty and when I told him I had a few more years left, he said to get rid of it as they've had a few die like this. Said there was one coming back in on a tow truck that was in a month ago. Then started...

    Issues zb

That's definitely the weird thing re the lack of a code. I keep thinking that I might've had a better result just replacing the DPF myself. The diesel variant is such a rare beast that I'm not surprised that the local service centre hasn't got a clue (regional WA). I'll ring up the other...

    Issues zb

Mine went into limp mode at the end of August. Up until that point, I had been saying that it's the best car I've owned and was disappointed that GM had pulled the pin on this, but understandable if the general public weren't going to give a non-Aus manufacture Commodore a chance. Anyway - the...

    Installing Adaptive Cruise Control

I know the VXR came with adaptive cruise control, I just wonder if anyone would know if it can be installed in the LT models? All models have the sensors for collision alert but I wasn't sure if it was just something that could be reprogrammed or whether a new module was needed?

    NEED HELP VT COMMODORE

Tried the centre bearing? Mine was causing a lot of grief under acceleration

300k on one set of struts?

Did the wheel alignment the next day, they didn't say anything was out of the ordinary.

300k on one set of struts?

I did my struts and strut mounts last weekend, totally worth doing, it drives like a different car now. A mechanic said there was no urgency but to go for it if I wanted to, glad I did. 220k on the clock.

    VT shudder

Replaced the centre bearing, no clunking during take off from a standing start. Still has a minor shudder from time to time around the 80kmh mark when accelerating slowly, but nowhere as bad or as often. Go figure. I think I'll just leave it and hope for the best.
  14. B

    VT shudder

I'm having a very similar issue at the moment, bought this VX recently and there was a thumping when taking off from a standing start so I assumed uni joints or diff. It runs fine around town, idles smoothly, takes off with a heap of grunt but once I get out on the highway, there's a...

VS - Head gasket or intake gasket?

It frustrates the hell out of me when you hand a vehicle over to a so called 'expert', tell him it's doing the same thing as before and he claims that "aww hell nah, it cant be that", then goes on to list a heap of other possible outcomes, only to find that your first instinct was correct...

VS - Head gasket or intake gasket?

Problem solved. I had a thought yesterday to put a spanner on the bolts around no 6 and they weren't even tight let alone torqued correctly. I know a certain mechanic who will never be getting my business ever again. I was also losing coolant around the thermostat housing. I'm planning to...

VS - Head gasket or intake gasket?

I used genuine gaskets when I did it first time around. Was told that it needed some sealer in the corners where the end gaskets meet the main ones. Dunno what the mechanic put in this time around. Im trying to think why it would start up again and the only conclusion I can come up with is...

VS - Head gasket or intake gasket?

I'm convinced that it's the intake gasket again. He charged me for new gaskets. I did it myself about 18 months ago but it didn't last so I figured I wasn't either torquing the bolts correctly or corrosion on the manifold was allowing small leaks to sneak back in. I got another manifold and was...

VS - Head gasket or intake gasket?

Found some coolant on one of the spark plugs today after trying a few things in regards to rough idling. A few weeks back I had an intake manifold gasket replaced by a mechanic and recently it started idling rough as guts. Rang the mechanic and he reckons no way it could be the work he did...

VS Motor stuffed. Opinions on whether to fix etc

Can you believe this? It was only a cracked spark plug. It's running OK again. Still wouldn't mind putting another motor in it in another 10-20k km as I reckon I've shortened the life of the thing anyway will all the over heating. Reckon the chemi-weld has slowed the water loss right down as...

VS Motor stuffed. Opinions on whether to fix etc

Cheers for the offer and I would accept that, but unfortunately I'm in Perth. If any Perth people know a good place to get an engine swap, I'd greatly appreciate it. I live in an apartment block and dont have a shed of my own, so I'll have to find someone who can do it.

VS Motor stuffed. Opinions on whether to fix etc

This is my theory as well, picked up another intake manifold that's in better shape before the running rough incident. Just did an oil change as, the oil was very black and sludgy.

VS Motor stuffed. Opinions on whether to fix etc

Have redone the inlet gasket, went great for about a week then started disappearing again. The thing has over heated a few times in heavy traffic since. I threw some Chemiweld in as a stop gap but I had a thought today that perhaps that's where the prob is? Can that **** get into the motor and...

VS Motor stuffed. Opinions on whether to fix etc

Managed to kill the motor in a VS. Trying to figure out what the best option is financially. Pretty sure the heads have had it, water disappearing and running as rough as guts, would it be best to drop in a reco motor, have the heads fixed or just sell as a wreck and start again?

    VS Intake Manifold Gasket

Problem solved. Ignore. Crap in one of the guide holes causing the gasket not to sit flush.

    VS Intake Manifold Gasket

Been installing a new intake manifold gasket and the problem I have is not being able to get the manifold to seat down correctly on the right hand side. Fits perfect on the drivers side but just wont sit in the correct spot on the other. Any one else had problems? Is it just one of those common...

    VS Wouldn't start

Ran some more Bars through it yesterday and have cylinder 4 back, it's running smooth again so hopefully that'll hold until I get time off to get to a mechanic.
  28. B

    Vs missfiring?

I'd replace the plugs and leads anyway. There's advice on here on on how to test the coil packs with a multimeter, just do a search.
  29. B

    VS Wouldn't start

The non starting issue was co-incidental. Turns out it's the key, have another key and it starts no worries. Seems odd that it would be a head gasket, shouldn't there be water in the oil? I've blown head gaskets on two different vehicles and ended up with chocolate milk on the dipstick both...

    VS Wouldn't start

F***ing thing wouldn't start again today. Plenty of kick in the battery and there's spark that I can see. Has ANYONE got a suggestion? I'm meant to be at work again.. feel like I'm bashing my head against a wall here.
  31. B

    VS Wouldn't start

Noticed I was losing coolant as well and what was left in the radiator is brown and sludgy. Cylinder four is only missing intermittently and when it does, this is when it heats up and starts losing coolant. Tried some Bars Stop Leak and it ran sweet and stayed cold all the way up the freeway...

    Replacing the Fan Speed Resistor

Apologies for the bump but did a search for fixing the fan in the car and found this thread. I tried this fix after the local Holden dealer quoted me $82 (!!!) for a replacement and went down to Jaycar (the resistors there are still $1.60) and it works! Worth the effort as opposed to what Holden...

    Here's how it is...

Very good advice, seems obvious in hindsight but have been caught once with another vehicle.
  34. B

    VS Wouldn't start

pulled off the injector plugs one by one and cylinder four isn't doing anything.
  35. B

    VS Wouldn't start

The battery is only a couple of days old, had a dodgy cheap one in there and it wasn't holding charge, hence the new one. It's done it once before and today it started idling rough.
  36. B

    VS Wouldn't start

Couldn't get my VS started tonight and thought I was stranded. There was spark so I thought it was a fuel problem but I thought I'd try resetting the computer first out of desperation. Disconnected the battery and reconnected after a few minutes and it roared into life. Any thoughts? Do the...

    Code 81: 2-3 Shift Solenoid

Yeah, I realised it was the connection inside the trans that was dodgy. Get this though: I've been driving to work while it's still in limp home mode, as it's only a couple of km. Started the thing up after knocking off today and it's 100% fine. Still going to pull the pan off, just got some...

    Code 81: 2-3 Shift Solenoid

Oh yeah, it's stuck between 2nd and 3rd (limp home mode). I'm 90% sure it's a loose connection after reading the other threads on this issue as it was intermittent for a couple of weeks, then it was fine for a couple of weeks and during the last week the warning light has been on constantly. It...

    Code 81: 2-3 Shift Solenoid

Cheers for that, I figured the only hassle was going to be getting trans fluid all over the place when the pan came off.

    Code 81: 2-3 Shift Solenoid

Anyone had this before? I have had this problem previously, about three years ago but went to an auto trans specialist and was informed that the solenoids in this model rarely die, in fact they'd never seen one in the Commodores, only Fords. The problem was supposedly a loose wiring harness...
