if there was a noticable amount of rust present, we just used a very small bit of 2000/3000 grit to remove any flaking. usually though the chips were so small that it rarely was required. if the existing clear coat is rough you can quite often get away with finishing the dab of clearcoat flush...
when i used to do paint chip repairs , we were taught to put a thin layer of the car colour in the base of the chip let it dry and then top up over the chip with clear coat, making the clear finish a little bit proud of the surface. then when it dried lightly sand back level and buff to a gloss...
agree it sounds like crank angle sensor, had it happen to my old car. next time it happens have a bottle of water in the car and tip it over the crank angle sensor. if it starts straight up , thats your problem. good luck.
have a look at the hyundai sonata. i know, but they have a brillant engine and some real style to them. if i hadnt wanted an suv that was my next choice.
cheers
i just wouldnt feel right going down gravel roads etc in a lowered calais. just horses for courses i think. not going full 4x4ing but i want the option that if i need to or want to use a gravel rd etc, i dont have to worry so much about damage. i know the suv is slower and even under powered by...
thanks Ron, i think it looks the part i was after. you could be right re the tailights but i am looking at probably selling soon to get an SUV.wife is retiring and we are looking to go travelling a bit.
cheers
there are some ramps that work. i have a set of alloy ones made by a guy in northern nsw. i have eibach pro kit springs and i can just get up. they are longer with a slower incline rate. might take some hunting but they are out there.
cheers
i think i am going to need some injectors so just trying to be prepared so i dont get ripped off in the heat of the moment. who has the best price at the present time for L77 injectors and a part no would be great so i dont get the wrong ones?

ps...
ive been very happy with my calais. i put Eibach pro kit springs with koni FSD'S. has given me what i want.no thump in ride, much improved cornering and made the whole car feel tighter. not suitable for track work/days,but enjoyable to drive. just depends how far you want to go.
good luck
cheers
did you have a tune with it? i know when they did mine they adjusted the fan temp activation point a bit sooner. they said it was the norm to do.

had a 327 and put it into a light pole. had just reco'd the motor.bought the wreck back from the insurance, sold it and combined with payout bought a HG 350. ended up trading it in on a HJ Statesman. hindsight is a wonderful tool.
cheers
try some of these, they should work i think. try this on a small bit before doing all the bits.probably follow up with some meatal polish.

i think you are probably over thinking it. that amount of rain is never going to get past the filter and even if it did it would do nothing to the motor and probably evaporate before it got to the internals. i had a ski boat with 308 and holley on it with open ram tube which would get a heap...
not sure if the same with this model but sounds like CAS is dodgy. next time it happens tip half a bottle of water over the CAS and see if it starts. as i say might be different with the VE so just a suggestion.
cheers
thumbs up from me ! i have the harrop otr and fascia panels fits well overall.the blue coolant cap is a bit loose on mine, otherwise fine. i did replace a couples of the facia panel screws to longer ones.
cheers
this probably isnt relevant these days but when i was younger i had a very worked over solid cam 350 monaro that lost its brakes after a couple of uses.i drove in sydney traffic and had to drive into the gutter to stop at times cause the brakes were shot,no vaccum. i added a caravan vaccum...
RevNev i have to disagree. i have the eibach setup in my VF and it is perfect in the height and steering side of things. car feels perfectly balanced and looks just right in height front to back. just not suitable for the OP's height requirements.
cheers
i have the Eibach pro kit springs in my VF Calais. i like them but i think they would drop you too much at the back. i am at 345mm at the back in mine and 365mm at front.have used Eibachs in the last few cars and i like their ride feel.

yes you are right but i wanted to keep the cats at their original position, legal, and the noise level not too loud but some more note than the log manifolds give. i also felt the ground clearance would be more of an issue with the 4 into 1's.
cheers
yes i had mine done with standard cats, otr and 2.5" catback. made a noticable improvement.they said 256kw at rear wheels. i take this with a grain of salt but there was some improvement. having said that i have not been 100% happy with the job they did so am having a set of pacemaker 340...
