Everything to know about VLs (open.. post your links here)

the diode in the loom near the battery is only for the power to the injectors, but you have no spark so it must be something else. also if it was the neutral switch the starter wouldn't crank at all

    Normal Temp On Vl

genuine thermostats run on the second notch, aftermarket run half way, thats the reason for the difference, put a genuine one in and it will go back down provided you have decent coolant/rad etc

Fuel Injectors, easy enough to clean or change yourself or not?

oh and there are heaps of hoses to remove from the plenum so make sure you label them if you think you'll forget where they go and make sure you do the clamps up tight when you put them back on. nothing worse than leaks (air or coolant) to piss you off after doing it all the first time

Fuel Injectors, easy enough to clean or change yourself or not?

i've changed a few. here's a run down of how to change them: 1- depressurise the fuel system 2- drain coolant 3- remove intake pipe and breather hoses 4- remove all vac, breather & coolant lines from plenum 5- undo the 4 top and 3 bottom plenum bolts and remove 6- undo fuel hoses, and rail...

    VL tips

i had a k&n panel filter on my vl for about 9 months. i also made the hole in front of the airbox bigger and made a duct out of galv sheet. it was better than standard but not much. so i got a SAAS pod for $15 and it was better even without a heat shield. now with a heat shield its a hell of a...

Vl Security and Interior advice needed urgent!

NICE auto products do ignition and lock sets for the vl so you can have the same key for your ignition, doors and boot. i have a NICE ignition barrel and solex locks to get rid the key problem. you can get them at repco. the doors and boot are easy but the ignition barrel is more involved. it...

    removing front seats

i put a big bar over the allen key to give me more leverage on it. its a painstaking job cos those threads just seem to go one forever and are pretty tight the whole way out. make sure you have a decent allen key and have it seated all the way in the head of the bolt so its less likely to strip...

    good days and average days

i used to experience this too, i found that resetting the ECU would make the car run great but then over the next few days it sort of slowly lose power. then it would come back and go and it used to **** me real bad...but since then i have replaced a lot of things and it just seems to have gone...

    Fuel Filter, Pump, CAS

i think thats what happened to my wife's. it ran out of fuel on the way to the servo after changing it. if it gets to the red line on the guage it starts to run like **** then stops a few k's later. but mine will go a lot further, don't know how far though cos i've never run it dry

steam traps on one but not the other

holden made the engine fit they just had to make a bit of a comprimise. as long as you are aware of it and do it properly its no problem. some people just don't check their coolant or think they know how to do something when they don't (this includes mechanics too, i'm sure some have been caught...

    Fuel Filter, Pump, CAS

first off you should change the fuel filter about once a year or 40 000k's. i left mine for a year and it started to play up cos it was getting clogged internal fuel pumps can be changed and cost about $100. get a workshop manual and it will describe how. should take about an hour and is...

    AFM - is it stuffed

i only just got around to checking my thread on SC which was copied across to here, and it does say 4 and 3 and has since october so it must've been a really old version of it that you were referring to. i know that it was wrong at one stage but its all good now.

    Manifold studs

i've used maniseal on both of mine, one with extractors (no gasket cos it was a set of brand new stainless ones that reckon they don't need one) and one with the standard manifold and gasket, and both are fine at least 6 months later. no tractor here. so i don't see why that would be your...

    vl aut problems

yes its common, its a chain that keeps going. it starts happening so the owner sells, the next person doesn't realise before they buy it and then they sell and so on. no one seems to be bothered fixing it or they get scared off by the prices that gearbox places quote to fix it. it happened to me...

    Manifold studs

i hate that, its people like that that give repco a bad name. you had a quote from me and she could've rang me to verify that if she wanted to. sounds like she gave you full retail price too...that really ****s me i was trying to help you out
  34. snake_VL

    Manifold studs

ES7516 from repco, $1.80 each. tell them josh from 376 quoted that price for you. thats trade price roughly. they should have them in stock or be able to get them in overnight. best to do the whole lot at once too don't know if thats cheap enough for you. good luck

    AFM - is it stuffed

Ross S, i wrote those paragraphs that you have posted there, yes 4 and 2 is wrong, i have been meaning to change that for a very long time now but haven't got around to it. i think what mag says is right, 4 and 3. but i'll check it before i change it in the article on SC

Post Pictures of your VL here.

i do not dislike turbo's and i really do like my NA 6, just saying that if i ever did get rid of the 6 i would replace it with an 8. but i've never driven a turbo before (only been a passenger) so that might change my mind if i do. **** it i've got 2 vl's i'll just have one of each :D

thanks for the comments guys thats fair enough then flak i spose you need to draw the line with how much you are willing to spend on a car and if its worth it. and i agree v8 is the way to go not turbo
