Red books says 1463 mm to the highest point on the roof.

Strange rubbing noise, car slows down

Check your exhaust pipe where it crosses above the panhard rod (I'm assuming a VT has one), i.e. look high up a foot or so behind the rear axle. I found recently my panhard rod had crushed the exhaust on my VR in a similar situation and with near identical results (there's a few old threads...

vs wont change gears need help

You should just need to pull the main engine fuse in the engine and wait a minute before replacing it to reset the computer. Driving the car after will allow the computer to pickup the faults it can so you can read them later. 'Calibrating the computer' sounds irrelevant unless you want to...

wierd noise(help quick need car for next week)

You could try starting the engine with the belt off to try to rule out a few things there. As I understand it, it should run on the battery for a bit without an issue (the alternator would not be working) - you should just have to ensure you don't let it warm up as the water pump will not be...

    overheating

And don't forget your serpentine belt and water pump, although if it overheated whilst idling perhaps they are less likely suspects. Did the fan come on? Is the fan working?

bonnet cable works when it wants to!

Yeah, my VR gets stuck when I haven't greased it in 6 mths or so - been doing it for a few years. Run around and do your door hinges and bonnet catch etc with some white grease.

Got a laptop? Go record the noise and post it if you can. Actually, you could probably record it with your phone or something.

    overheating

With the engine cold, check the coolant level. If its low you have a leak and need to start looking at hoses etc. If its good, check the radiator cap and make sure its got a good tight seal. If the cooling system can't pressurise properly the fluid may boil and the engine overheat. Check if...

And btw, red transmission fluid sounds healthy, so put that idea aside.

wierd noise(help quick need car for next week)

You'll probably get better advice than mine, but while you are waiting to get some, take off the serpentine belt and rotate all the pulleys by hand and check for any unusual noises or roughness from the bearings. You might also like to check nothing is interfering with the fan while you are...

Standard ride height of a '94 VR Berlina

Update: Redbook here says the height is 1478 mm and a level on the roof to a tape says mine is 1450 mm, so yeah, she's dropped a bit (28 mm, just over an inch!) as expected. Seems to make it somewhere equivalent to between FE2 and Low from what I make of it, which is worth noting if you're...

Standard ride height of a '94 VR Berlina

That would be about right for the exhaust, but since the rubber mounts would have stretched and the exhaust is a replacement I'm not sure if it means much. Exhaust certainly looks like it should be higher, including the hole forming just behind the cat where the pipe has scraped a couple of...

Climate control heater/aircon blower motor - Correct input voltages?

Thanks justbad4you, looks like that's from the post I linked to in my second post to this thread, but your assistance is much appreciated. I'll sort something out about a motor then give it a shot. A Berlina without aircon is like unpolished silver *sigh*.

Climate control heater/aircon blower motor - Correct input voltages?

Seems an aftermarket replacement should be available from JAS Oceania as blower A11-1342 (see p.271 here).

VR Ute most practical tie down points - pictures if possible

As to the dog, make sure it's tied short enough it can't go over the edge - saw one tied long by his collar do that one day at an intersection as the car turned. Wasn't a good look as he hung from the side of the tray. Fortunately the driver realised quick smart and the dog seemed to come out...

Climate control heater/aircon blower motor - Correct input voltages?

Thanks - not surprisingly (given the input plug has 12-14V) it failed that test. I had been wondering if the amplifier refered to in so many earlier posts results in an input voltage of more than 12V. Suggestions for replacement/repair of the motor? I have only seen one post suggesting repair...

Climate control heater/aircon blower motor - Correct input voltages?

The blower motor on my '94 VR Berlina progressively got slower over a few months, started working only on high, then only intermitently on high, and then not at all. Aircon works well, so its a real pain having no blower in the middle of a Qld summer. I think I have tracked the issue down to...

    radiator fan issue

What tezza said - need to check the actual values rather than what the numberless guage says. While probably not likely, your guage could have shifted calibration or at least be different to others.

Standard ride height of a '94 VR Berlina

Can anyone tell me the standard (factory) front and rear ride height, e.g. hub to guard, of a VR Berlina - with IRS if it makes a difference. Mine is sitting on the original springs and I'm wondering how much they have sagged and whether I should replace them when I replace the shocks/struts...

Slipping auto transmission and dead alternator?

Just to add some closure to the original post, the problem was indeed a lack of voltage due to worn alternator brushes causing the car to go into 'limp home' mode. All fixed for minimal cost, which was just as well given my Astra blew a transmission hose on the weekend and repair has been...

Slipping auto transmission and dead alternator?

I just checked the ALDL and only got code 75 = "System Voltage Low - Auto Transmission Only". Hmm, what a surprise. Never done that before, so at least I learnt something! At least if no-one else knows of a link between the slippage and the lack of voltage I don't feel so thick, although it...

Slipping auto transmission and dead alternator?

Yesterday morning I noticed my electrics warning light come on for a few minutes when I started my '94 VR Berlina sedan. Then, driving home from work, the engine warning light came on as I pulled off the highway. Next thing I know the transmission is slipping really badly as I go to accelerate...
