Oil Cooler on a VZ V6 with 4L60E

Trans hose and regular hose clamps are fine. I used Pirtex for both. 3/8 hose size. This is my setup: Trans Pan -Derale 4204 - OE part is the deep pan style but the filter hits the cooling tubes of the Derale Pan so I need to try with the short style filer. Original pan still installed...

[General] Hydraulic power steering remote mount filter - VZ Install

Installation was done on a VZ V6 but can be adapted to suit other applications. Duration: 1 day Remove the steel line between the cooler and the reservoir. Fluid in the system will drain. Remove the reservoir from the vehicle and clean the screen inside at the bottom if required. Mount...

165k Oil Change - Glitter in oil

Personally i don't believe this will be of much benefit to you because: The damage (if any) has already occurred. Taking a sample of oil that is already out of the car and into a drain pan is not an accurate sample. You shouldn't take 1 oil sample from that particular engine to gauge normal...

    Short Trips - Extra Care?

I never quoted that you said ‘solely’ I simply asked it in a question hence the question mark. I never stated I know a lot, I know nothing. I was asking questions so I (and others) could gain an understanding from your perspective which is why during that post I did not state you make any...

    Short Trips - Extra Care?

Works better in what way? Based on your situation the vehicle wont reach operating temperature. Proof? So FPV's v8 spec for 5w20 comes soley from a fuel consumption aspect? When that part of the grade is relevant it still has a higher viscosity than your 10W60 at 100C so I don't see how its...

Azazeldeath - Well I guess you don't have a choice but to change it every 6 weeks.
  7. IPCOlsenVZ

    Engine Oil

Brenah – you are using a great lubricant for your application and interval, i wouldn’t change it. Azazeldeath – you’ll wear out the threads on your sump and filter cartridge before your motor wears out with that short interval. Not_an_abba_fan – 3 changes a year regardless of kms is seriously...

VZ with sludge - best process to remove?

I would not use expensive oil first up because I believe you would not get the full benefit out of it. It’s not so much the oil you put in first but the filter interval because it will get clogged quickly as shown by sabbath's pic. I would and do use a genuine oil filter because there good...

VZ with sludge - best process to remove?

I would do a few short oil changes (1k-2k km) with a standard 10W30 oil (shell, castrol, valvoline) and changing the filter with a genuine one every time. When things improve switch to a long life syn (M1 0w40, Ultra 5w40) and genuine filter and start to extend your changes to 5k+ km. Change you...

    alloytec oil pressure

well the gauge would run off information from the sender so if the guage is in psi, convert kPa to psi.
  12. IPCOlsenVZ

    alloytec oil pressure

At the sender next to the filter MIN: @ Idle: 68kPa, @ 2,000rpm: 138kPa I would assume that is with a XW-30 oil.

    Oil Type

    0w30, 0w40, 5w30 or 5w40 synthetic with an OCI @ 1 year or 10,000kms is my opinion.

    10w-?

You do realise that the article was written during the early 1990s judging by the fact that it said the current spec was SG. There is nothing wrong with 10w40 oils when used in a suitable application.

    tranny cooler

The hardest part is removing the connections at the steel pipe end. This may help you. https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/disconnecting-transmission-line.77834 The power steeing cooler does get in the way a bit so the kit that torquative was on about might be a good option.

    Alloytec Oil

Brand matters very little imo. I would choose an oil based on viscosity (specified or very close to recommended), specification (product data sheet), and manufactures approvals. As for oil change interval I would say the price you pay is somewhat proportional to how many kms you travel and how...

    VZ SV6 Fuel Filter Issue

You just push them back on and it locks and seals automatically. Have a look in the hose connection to see if the green prongs have been damaged. They most likely have been, so you'll have to replace the hose with the connections. I had to do it once, new one was like $40 from holden.

Does any body know where to get vz parts...

$50-$60 for the inlet gaskets from Holden. Tridon have a part number listing for the OP sender if you don’t want to go genuine, check their website.

    Oil consumtion on Alloytec?

+1 I’m on M1 0W40 Provided the car is making sufficient OP (MIN -- idle: 65kPA, 2krpm: 138kPa) and isn’t consuming excessive oil I see reason to increase oil weight, for a non FI, non track driven car.

Off memory it’s called a carmel wheel, can be sourced at paint and panel shops. Use with caution. Alternatively use a solvent like prepsol/wax and grease remover.

    Power steering fluid leak

Yea the volume of the fluid does vary quite a bit with temp...but if it was low (well below min) in the first place you might have a leak. Check all the hose clamps, they are not done up that tight at the plant.

VZ alloytec (how do i change spark plugs)

**** I totally miss read your post and went off at a tangent:whistling. I had a look through my owners manual (which covers the stock and the 190 model) and I could only find 120km interval. Flip a coin I guess.
