Hey, I had the same problem, I just ended up replacing the button and gear stick surround with the silver one like this since I had an exec with the plain black one. It is quite easy to replace and you should be able to get one from Holden's or ebay.

I have to agree, my VP used to beet other v6 vx, vy's etc with ease. I now own a VZ, I have a feeling the VP would have beet that too initialy (up to 60), but once the VZ hits 3000rpm its much better. Definatly still miss the down low pick up of the vn/vp's.
