Value of HSV 30 Year Anniversary models

Thanks guys, I appreciate your replies. Decided not to go ahead. Since it won't ne an every day car, I can get something rarer, more interesting and even more exotic for around $100K.

Value of HSV 30 Year Anniversary models

The Calais has quite a few kms (almost 190,000km) now and although its running perfectly, I have been considering a change for awhile. The HSV 30 Year Anniversary allocations for some models such as Senator are starting to run low. So there must have been a fair demand. The Senators are...

    Best Brake Pads for Street??

Yes QFM HPX for me too. Very very impressed. Perform and last well with very little dust.

Cammed ve ss??? are you happy with the reliability

My experience is that with small to moderate cams the main problem is not so much the engine bottom end, clutch, gearbox, diff etc. The main problems tend to be in the valve train area. For a long-term reliable car I would suggest that in addition to dual springs and retainers etc, you should...

    Ve commodore speaker upgrade

Hi 007josho, There is a lot of info on this already in the forum. Maybe start by having a look at the "stickys" in the Car Audio section under the "forum" button on the home page. There is one specifically about speakers.

Alloytec engine light possible cat problem?

Son in-law has a 2008 Calais with Allotec. After the engine light came on a dealer has analysed it and says it's because of a faulty cat. They also quoted him $1200 to replace it. Is this diagnosis likely to be correct or is it possible that it's an O2 sensor? He doesn't know what the code...

Sway bars - Cons and Pros?

Just be aware that sway bars also stiffen up the suspension a bit - particularly hitting bumps mid corner. On my VE I find my Whiteline adjustables excellent on good road but not ideal on rough country roads. I also have Koni yellows(adjustable) and Kings.

VE Premium Sound - Easy Improvements by reverse wiring the subs

No mate, to get them out you need to remove the back seat etc. it's not very difficult to do but it is much easier to just solder from in the boot. May be stating the obvious, but the main trick with soldering is to use the soldering iron to heat the metal terminals/wire (not directly onto the...

    VE Series 2 Firewall Holes

Happy to help. If you have put a slit in the grommet for your cables, make sure you seal with some silicone or similar. Water can get in at that point. Cheers. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    VE Series 2 Firewall Holes

I assume it's similar to series 1. If so there is a very convenient large rubber grommet in the corner of the firewall behind the glovebox. It leads into the mesh covered box at back passenger side in engine bay. Where you get to the pollen filter for the vent/air con system. I have photos at...

    Gen-F GTS Cop Car

Well, surprise, surprise!!! The truth comes out! The bully boys and the pack on here are not looking too flash at this stage! SMH Drive update: "The internet is awash with rumour that a Holden Special Vehicles GTS used by NSW Police also suffered engine failure. NSW Police told Fairfax Media...

    Gen-F GTS Cop Car

Yes, the Walkinshaw Facebook post is quite incredible. How can they say it was not "approved" work when it was done by a contracted dealer? Does this mean that they have to separately and specifically "approve" any exhaust or other Walkinshaw mod to any car? Got to be kidding themselves. It...

    Gen-F GTS Cop Car

I actually heard from a coppa I know that both cars are still running fine. So although my info is 2nd hand it would be good to know if there are any facts about all this. Or is all this the usual rumour mill and rumour "creep" that's often driven by forums? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    another exhaust thread

Mild steel can last for many years if the car is usually driven for long enough to warm up and evaporate all the moisture etc from the system. However, these systems can rust out quickly if always driven short distances and that doesn't warm them up properly. I've had mine on my current VE for...

Best LSD Diff Ratio for take off?

I have the stock 2.92. At times I have considered 3.27 but 1st gear in the auto already seems too short sometimes. This is mainly around town and in stop-start traffic. You guys on this thread with higher ratios (above 3.7) talk a lot about highway and 6th gear but it seems to me you must have...

    Tyre question

The 40 and 35 profiles are percentages of the width. So 40% of 245mm is different to 40% of 235mm. The rolling diameters of 245 and 235 would be different if the profile is the same number. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    Routers

Sorry, I haven't read the whole thread, but if this is about ADSL modems, it is important to remember that some modems are better for under 3km cable length from the exchange, and others are better for connections that are over 3km. It depends on the type of chip in the modem. I am about 3kms...

The Death of the Holden Ute 2016

    VE with big rims

This seems to be a very common problem on 20" rims with 275 tyres. It has sometimes taken me a few balances to find a place that can get it right. Apparently the reason can relate to: - the out of balance nature of lots of the cheaper tyres - the difficulty in getting the weights close to the...

falken 452 still all the rage?

Do you mean PZero Nero or just straight PZero? I am on my 2nd set of Nero's and love them. Got them for similar price to you as well. But I understand the straight PZero's which are more expensive are a step above. They came out clearly on top in this year's Motor Mag tyre comparison. Sent...

Lowering VE SSV with SSSL all round, do I need guard rolling for the rear with 20s?

Lowering VE SSV with SSSL all round, do I need guard rolling for the rear with 20s?

You are splitting hairs. I know what offset is and I also know it is intimately related to all other wheel measurements and brake clearances. Is there some relevant point you are trying to make here that is helpful to the question asked? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Lowering VE SSV with SSSL all round, do I need guard rolling for the rear with 20s?

Sorry mate I have to disagree. I can guarantee it does if you need to clear big brake callipers. I have speedy cheetahs which will not clear any of the big brake options. I researched this in detail including obtaining templates of brakes for various brands. The problem is because the...

    Advanced Driving Courses

Yes agreed. I have done 2 over the years. Its specially a good thing to do any time you have a significant change of car. Small to large, or front drive to rear, or luxury to high performance etc etc. The courses are also interesting and very enjoyable. I must get around to doing another one...

    Excessive rear tire wear!

Yes toe can be a big issue on the ear of a VE. I recently lost a set of good tyres because of this after a dodgy wheel alignment. It tends to wear in a very narrow strip right at the edge and the rest of the tyre can look OK. Camber issues seem to me to create a bit of a wider worn strip on...
