    VS Ecotec Poor Fuel Economy

No leaks or smells anywhere, new fuel filter and rubber lines checked. When I replaced the fuel pump I noticed the clear vapour tube was cracked and disconnected where it meets the fuel tank so I renewed it. This also fixed the fuel smell I once had in the cabin. No smokey startup...........only...

    VS Ecotec Poor Fuel Economy

Hi ...............yes I do check, but have given up as you correctly pointed out. Most of the feedback you get is really valuable stuff and I do appreciate the time people take to help out and then there are the ones who don't bother to read your initial post about what actions you took already...

    VS Ecotec Poor Fuel Economy

no I don't have a scantool..............and yes I am wasting money, but some of the things I replaced needed to be for other reasons, ie, fuel pump, CAS, temp sensor, ATS. I've booked in the car at diagnostic centre so will see if they can narrow down the causes. If they do, I'll post an update.

    VS Ecotec Poor Fuel Economy

Yep I checked the fuel consumption...............it sucks! :-) The plugs on one bank are blacker than the other side...........meaning that side is running rich??

    VS Ecotec Poor Fuel Economy

what I love the best is how the run of the mill mechanics can't seem to isolate these types of problems, leaving us poor owners scratching our heads. When I had my recent rough idle problems, three different mechanics couldn't find the cause leaving me to try and fix by process of...

    VS Ecotec Poor Fuel Economy

well when I picked them up, the guy said that they actually weren't bad at all but he still refurbished them. He said they first run a test on them side by side, then put them in a ultrasonic or sonic? bath, new o rings and then retested again. He said if they where crap he would of recommended...

    VS Ecotec Poor Fuel Economy

not a bad idea but how does one know if the canister is on the way out?

    VS Ecotec Poor Fuel Economy

no the car and everything in it, outside it, under it, on it, over it, attached to it, near it is all stock :-)

pls read my original post on what I have already replaced.

    VS Ecotec Poor Fuel Economy

I have read most of the relevant posts but still can't isolate the cause for such poor fuel economy. I drive slower then a granny. Use Prem fuel, tyres are pumped high. Done 170,000. I only get 260-300 ks per tank of normal inner city driving, even after all the below work done! No error...

    VS Ecotec rough idle

I was under the impression (from another post regarding o2s) that the VS o2 sensors share the same earth with the heater and that has been prone to giving incorrect signals to the ECU ? The main reason why I wanted to provide a separate earth at the ECU is bad fuel economy and not so much the...

    VS Ecotec rough idle

Well i checked the resistance of the ATS At both the unit itself and at the connector And all seemed fine, but as soon as replaced It with a genuine ATS, the idling started to behave straight away. I also earthed the o2 wires properly at the Ecu at the Same time but not sure that would...

    VS Ecotec rough idle

Update Thought I'd post an update on my rough idle. I seem to have fixed it by replacing the Air temp sensor and cleaning the MAF with proper MAF cleaner. I also earthed the o2 sensors at the ECU(D14, D16 & A2) as proposed in another thread to treat poor fuel economy. So after replacing the...

    VS Ecotec rough idle

no it doesn't................although I have noticed oil in the exhaust (back garage wall) after starting starting.

    VS Ecotec rough idle

I actually didn't pull out the oil separator just the PCV valve and spring was taken out and cleaned. I have changed the intake manifold gaskets..........the white smoke under hard load has been there for a couple of years. Thanks for the purge solenoid pics.

    VS Ecotec rough idle

Could be the DFI?..............checked the coil resistance individually and all registered ok. The plenum was dirty as expected, but cleaned all that and the manifold all up. Cleaned the PCV and at the valve was rattling freely as described in the gregorys. The smoke is noticeable when warmed...

    VS Ecotec rough idle

Great thanks..........I'll test out mounts(should I get the mother in law to stand in front?). I didnt pay 170 for a new TPS! .............Repco sells aftermarket for 50 bucks if i choose to replace. Not sure though that a faulty TPS causes such a bad idle. It's getting to the point where...

    VS Ecotec rough idle

Hi Guys.............another long one but pls bear with me :-) Just thought I'd give an update. The very rough idle is still bloody there. It does drive smooth as though. Listed below what I have done thus far and welcome any further suggestions. In a kind of weird way i enjoy the...

    VS Ecotec rough idle

yeah good point...............................I read about the mounts in another forum, so I'll check that out as well. The mechanic said that the mount bolts where tight so he didn't think they needed replacement, but if they have sagged, especially on one side, that could contribute to some...

curious what the CAM angle sensor has to do with idle? I will check it out though.

    VS Ecotec rough idle

sorry I meant the crank angle sensor was replaced a while ago

    VS Ecotec rough idle

replaced the CAS about two months ago. The mechanic "checked" the engine mounts and reckons they look ok.
  25. P

    VS Ecotec rough idle

no I haven't. The mechanic said he tested the TPS resistance and it was ok. How do you clean the two TPS and MAF? carby cleaner or just wipe any dust with a rag when taking them off as I hear they are delicate things?

    VS Ecotec rough idle

Hi Guys, This one is a real challange that not even two different qualified mechanics can work out on my 98 seriess II V6 Ute. I have had a rough idle over the last month that we can't diagnose. It drives beautifully and really smooth, but when coming to a stop it starts to misbehave...

VS Commodore - Engine won't switch off !!!

all sorted............auto electrician found that the ignition module(not the barrel) just under the steering wheel had started to corrode around the connecting terminals so it wasn't sending the correct kill signal when you pulled out the key. Replaced it and all good now.

VS Commodore - Engine won't switch off !!!

Yep............ it's true. The car has been playing up for weeks. Every morning is a challenge to start her up. Usually turn the key and no sound or cranking over. There is power to the rest of the car and it has a new battery and CAS. Usually get it started by swapping over relays, so I believe...

    VS Ute fuel tank hoses

thanks Uber..........difficult to include a larger photo using the built in tool. There just doesn't seem to be any spare connection point on the filler hose or anywhere else for the two above mentioned hoses. The filler consists of the main hose going into the tank and a smaller black hose...

    VS Ute fuel tank hoses

Hi all, have a concern with my fuel tank hoses. I removed the tank because I wanted to check all the hoses and connections as I have a fuel smell in the cabin(was evident before changing the pump). So after lifting the ute cover tray I discovered the following and wanted to check if...
