    VN Wagon Speaker Size

There is quite a large hole at the rear speaker position for the wagon. I fitted a three way speaker box into it a long time ago.

Where did you mount your horn button (not in the middle of the wheel)

The horn button in our work car was broken so we mounted a push button off the cup holder. This passed the rego check.

is it worth doing some custom electronics?

As a learning experience your ideas are a great way to understand modern electronics on cars. We built a number of add on modules over a 15 years period to do much of these things. One of the projects was a natural gas powered car V8 VP Commodore so we had to control the gas injectors as well...

    manual steering rack into vn

I thought I saw a magazine article about the conversion and I believe the NZ Commodore may have had a manual steering "option". Searching yields; http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/vn-vp-holden-commodore-1988-1993/88551-converting-vq-vl-rack.html...

Fuel Pump Dead After 3 Months

It can happen, I went through 4 fuel pumps in 12 months. Original died after many years. A mate got me a trade special which worked for 1 day. Its trade special warranty replacement lasted 1 year and then I bought a brand name quality pump which is still running 5 years later.

needing information on obtaining racing licence?

Not sure about SA but here in NSW there are two car racing bodies, CAMS and AASA; CAMS - Confederation of Australian Motor Sport AASA - Australian Auto Sport Alliance - Downloads Licences depends on what you want to do and range in price. Technically you need to belong to a Car Club to be...

    Grinding noise upon braking

I'd agree with Mouce. Don't grind the lip off. If the lip is that bad that it grinds, I'd think that the rotors are below minimum thickness. Also your rotors are balanced from the supplier and grinding would probably put them out of balance. At $20 to machine a rotor, I'd put that $20...

    Engine Miss Under Load

The V6 had a odd miss usually under load and more so when it was hot. Tracked it down to a bad coil pack, but decided to change all three plus leads and plugs. (Plug #1 was a different colour) Runs great now. The bad coil pack didn't show up using some of the tips on the forum such as...

I'm an inch away from buying a VP commy executive wagon

While we "love" our VN/VP Commodores, what people are saying is realistic. It is a 20 year old car and is likely to need work. On the plus side parts are cheaper now and it is easy to work on and doesn't have too much electronics to baffle you. On the minus side major things such as power...

    Headliner - should I bother?

We pulled ours out years ago and just run with a metal roof. Everyone asks about it and I joke that we did to lower the centre of gravity of the car. When the kids were younger we used to stick magnetic letters and numbers on the roof for them to play with. In hindsight we should have kept...

would smaller tyres have similar affect as higher ratio diff gears?

A quick look at the tyre calculator; 205/65 15 vs 195/55 15 is a 8% change This would be the same as changing your diff from 3.08 to 3.32 A friend of mine did this a long time ago and he did say you could notice a difference. 185/75-14 5.5in 12.5in 24.9in 78.3in...

Who Cooks? Hard Anodized or Stainless-Steel w/ Copper Base?

Buy good quality pans. Stainless steel pans with copper bottoms are great. Easy to clean and last forever if you buy good ones. Our Raco set is over 25 years old. Buy one or two non-stick frypans for frying and replace them when they lose their coating. Even Scanpan wear out. If you...

how do i change water pump/ harmonic balancer??

Sounds like you need to track down your noise first. Does it change with a change in engine speed? Have you tried using a long screwdriver and put one end need the part you suspect and your ear to the other end? (Use care!) The harmonic balancer should flex a little bit but not lots and the...

    upper rear trailing arms vn

I found it was mainly clunks and groans. After changing them the back felt better and less likely to step out. If they haven't been changed before then they are probably worn. You should check the lower arms as well as they seem to wear more. In any case changing them with arms pre-fitted...

    HOW TO change FUEL pump

While you're at it, check the breather hoses to the filler pipe and on top of the tank and replace the perished ones (usually all of them). And as everyone has said, buy a quality pump.............unless you want to do all this again in a year's time.

parent of 'L' plater - how did u handle it?

I am almost up to number 4 learner. The first few are quite stressful and from the learner's point of view there is a lot to take in. All of our have learnt in the VN Wagon manual. My advice (right or wrong) in no order; 1. Scout out quiet safe locations. These need to have the...

Cut spark instead of fuel at rev limiter?

The fuel cut algorithm I wrote cycled cylinders and as the revs increased cut 1, then 2, then 4 cylinders to give a softer feel to the cut. I would agree that a total fuel cut is like hitting a brick wall! The VN V6 rev limiter must be different as it appears to have a soft limiter then a...

Cut spark instead of fuel at rev limiter?

Based on some work we did on Subarus. Fuel cut is much easier on your engine than ignition cut. Assuming your engine has multiport fuel injection. If you cut the fuel the cylinder just pumps air. The O2 sensor will report a lean exhaust but it is really only air, not a lean mixture. If you...

    Car stereo wires..

Yes.........switched power and constant power. It is very likely your new unit will need both. Constant power is used to keep the settings such as time, station frequency and audio settings.

Rear Doors not working On VN Wagon

Here is the link for Holmart; VN -VS DOOR HANDELS (STEEL GMH) SOLD INDIVIDUALLY AS ONE (1) If you get your door trims off you might want to try and clean and adjust the mechanism first before buying the handles. I only know with mine it took the handles to complete the job.
