    2006 VE 275k 4 grand

A mate of mine would get similar and probably less klms at the auctions for next to nothing, for $3000 he's just picked up a good condition 2010 model VE with much less Klms. Just saying, it's your money, so long as your happy.

    Power Generator, Petrol or Diesel?

We lose our power all the time here, [cyclones, storms etc!] and pretty similar to what you've just mentioned, i brought a cheap chinese 3.5 kva diesel inverter generator 10 yrs ago off ebay. Well, i started it the other day, [power off again!], and it's still going pretty good, and another good...

    V8 battery question

As already mentioned, 620 cca shouldn't be a problem, my SSV come from new with 480 cca, and was still going strong well after 5yrs, where, just to be safe i only changed it out because i was going away on a long trip.

    Ute tub drains

There's a pretty good thread on here somewhere on what to do. And you're pretty well on track, just extend the drains somewhere to where ever you think it'll float your boat!

Sticking starter solenoid, that's what i'd be looking at

    Relocating battery to Ute tray

Not sure what a "better" is, i know when i'm hungover, i get "better", but i've never relocated it. Sorry mate, couldn't help it, but if you mean "battery", yea, you can relocate it anywhere you like, the sedan has it in the boot, which wouldn't be much different to what you want to do. I've got...

    Vx chewing out fan belts.

Had a similar problem on my range rover a few years ago, i just changed the pulley on the alternator, problem fixed. You just changed the alternator, is it the same pulley? if not, i'd be leaning towards the alternator pulley, otherwise mate, sorry, i can't help ya.

rat living in my engine bay !!!!!!!!!

+1 for leaving the bonnet up, that's what i do, not such a handy hidy hole anymore, and "Tomcat" bait blocks, that soon sorts 'em out, forget about "Ratsak" they just get fat on that stuff. A Carpet snake's handy too. And yea, if you don't get rid of 'em, as mentioned above, they can soon do...

    Investing 2013

Term deposit's are all right, but i can get similar just from a simple Internet Account, and even better are dividends from blue chip shares, like the banks, BHP, Telstra etc, but basically, high risks equals high returns, and if you can't sleep at night worrying, then don't do it, and the way i...

    House and contents insurance increase.

Suncorp done much the same, and if my place ever gets flooded, this country will be in trouble, but now, with my insurer everyone's covered for flood, no choice. Cyclones or floods don't bother me, but maybe a fire, hence, i like to have something in place just in case, but because i hardly make...

What can i do about this??

I live with bees, every day, and i've yet to be stung They just took up residence in an old cupboard in the shed one day ages ago, i was a bit touchy at first, but i just left them there, cause the pro's of having heaps of fruit and veggies far outweigh the odd sting or two which i'm yet to...

    Ute spare wheel dramas

Mmm...... well, you could always get a spare set of sunnies, a hat and set it up beside ya in the passenger seat! Seriously though, if i went down that track, i'd just look at blocking the access hole for the winder, heaps of ways, a pin made up with a hole drilled on the inside for a lock comes...

    Wheel torque settings

A lot of talk about torque here, personally, i just tighten them up with a wheel brace or basic socket to where i'm happy, and then, "check them a few days later", i do all my rotating, and i've never had a problem, and if the thread doesn't feel right, i'm quite happy to spray on a bit of...

Please, Urgent Help. Loud rumble, and car vibrating.

I've got a noticable a rumble in my Landcruiser at the moment, but because i've got wide Wrangler's on, i know i just need a wheel alignment, but in your case it sounds like it could be a universal joint, or if not, a bearing's on it's way out, if it's not already out. A universal's pretty basic...

    Wipers

As Tinsnips said, "just water" but if i ever get around to polishing the car, i polish the windscreen as well, works wonders, and then i might just polish the windscreen anyway, and forget to do the car.

What should be in my toolbox

As above, plus cable ties, Loctite or similar repair putty, i prefer Lanolin to WD40 and more cable ties

    Wow! No Spare Wheel!

+1 for CH3F's comment, no spare wheel, no sale. One of the things the salesman stressed when i brought my vehicle, "it's got a full alloy spare", i wondered what the hell he was on about, but it all falls into place now. I wouldn't put some of these "space savers" on a wheelbarrow.

    Huntsmans in car

I find 'em handy for fly traps, so i don't worry about 'em much, although i did accidently get one winding the window up once if that helps

Looks good mate, and well done for something out of the ordinary

    Why ute's? whats the appeal?

Yeah....... you have to make sure when you're moving bodies, some aren't still kicking. And yeah, can't beat a Ute for that.

Bad luck mate, i guess the car didn't like that bonnet either

    ABS Warning

On an average, i get 'em less than every 5000 klms, each time, supposedly it's been a wheel sensor, i've done one lap of the wheels, and now i'm on to the second wheel in the second lap in less than 25,000 klms, gets a bit annoying after a while where i generally just "reset" and keep driving...

    sv6 ute sill/scuff plates?

I got a couple off ebay a while back for utes, i haven't looked there for a while now, but mostly they only sell ones for the sedan and tell you to get adventurous with the couple of spare back ones you get. But i think if you're patient and look about you should get lucky, they're about, you...

    VE aircon problem.

Air-cons being air-cons, they like to go into politics after a while, and hence, they blow "hot air" If, as mentioned above hasn't happened, check if the clutch is kicking in, if not, it's probably out of gas

car playing up need help asap

You said you've changed the tank, so possibly a bit of rubbish on the pick-up? Could be worth checking, it's happened to me a couple of times the motor starts and runs ok until it starts starving for fuel, and then the fun starts.

That truck driver you flipped off? Let me tell you his story

Not too sure where i am, but i'm probably a long way ahead of you anyway. I've seen what happens when this so called cog of yours breaks, happens all the time around here, and i think you'll find it's a lot bigger cog than you think, or am i missing something, and people can survive without food...

That truck driver you flipped off? Let me tell you his story

A lot of thankless people on here. What a lot of people don't realise is, if it wasn't for that truck holding you up in the right hand, left lane or where ever, you wouldn't be there either, you'd be struggling to stay in existence. The smart ones 'll know what i mean, and i'm not going to try...

That truck driver you flipped off? Let me tell you his story

We all see idiots every day, driving whatever............ But maybe some of these people that want to crucify truckies might find that a simple investment into a CB, and then communicating with the offending truckie might bring about a whole different ball game. And yea, the money saved from...

    transporting seats

Furniture removalist might be the safest, but not cheapest. So long as your items are well wrapped/protected, i'd look into a transport company myself,[general freight] hundreds of them around, a lot of them are always looking to make up back loads from up north, and it should be a lot less than...

    anyone else working FIFO

FIFO, some like it, some don't, i done it for 12 yrs in a gold mine, worked my way up to supervisor, but in the end couldn't wait for the mine to close down so i could get out of there, i'll never do it again, main reason, got sick of listening to whingers who couldn't appreciate when they're...

    Please don't hate my n00b-ness

Plenty of good advice here, and as UFO said, have your finances in order, cause a good thing to keep in the back of your mind is, a salesman will virtually crawl over broken glass for a cash sale with no trade. And take ya time, good luck.

    aussie barbeque ettiquette

+1 to "no gas", and with unlimited wood supply, heat beads don't really get a look in either, plus the longer it takes the more beer i get to drink.

    aussie barbeque ettiquette

The only way i ever cook steak is on the coals, the Barbie's just a couple of old plough discs, which means i light the fire and get to drink more beer while it burns down to the coals. Each to their own how many times they want to turn it, but the thing is, it won't cook in the air. And by the...

    Rat attack

Yep, one thing about commodores, they're tasty, although i think ratsack's better, i noticed one starting to make a nest in another of my vehicles, so now, plenty of ratsack, traps etc, and i also leave the bonnets up, that seems to keep them out of the engine bay anyway, and so far no damage...

Your VE- What problems have you had

I'm driving around now with the ABS, esp, check engine alarms coming up every time i start it, this is the 4th time in less than 20,000 kilometres, no doubt just a sensor, so i just reset 'em and keep driving until i get the time to get 'em looked at. A rattle in the dash somewhere on the...
