vr cog swapper fit up to a VS ecotec?

Hey all I've got a chance to score a free running condition vr manual berlina and I was keen to put the manual box up to my vs ecotec which has an annoying auto on it. Has anyone experienced difficulties with this concept??

    Strange things happening....

But if that happened to my car I would be looking at the TPS, DFI module, coils, CAS, oxy sensors and their wiring looms, fuel pump, fuel filter and vacuum leaks in the induction for a start

    Strange things happening....

Well to start with list what systems could possibly cause your symptoms. Then look into the components in each system that could cause those symptoms and break it down again. Then you can start eliminating components off your list to leave you with a hopefully short list of parts to target. So...

    vs statesman ls1 cutting out!

Fault could be induced by heat or fault might be sensitive to load. Keeping that in mind there's a few other items that could cause these symptoms. Throttle position sensor, coils, not sure if they have some sort of ignition module like the 5L but if it does it probably needs to stay cool and if...

VS Commy thermo fan not workin

Hmmm interesting, but makes sense. I have a spare memcal lying around somewhere too, Thanks for that info, I have an order to go with now: find memcal then swap it out and if that doesn't work replace PCM an if that fails, BCM... Which is like $200 with a grotty old key head again. We'll see how...

    Starting issues vs

Might be BCM not reading your key properly. Not sure if BCM can only read keys with good battery's in them tho. Check if the little metallic bump on the corner of your key head makes good connection with the contacts on the ignition barrel for a start.

VS Commy thermo fan not workin

Hey all, another bloody thermo fan issue. My low fan wont come on but when I disconnect the ecu temp sensor I can clearly hear low fan engage first followed by high fan so I know fan is fine. I put a little thermocouple thermometer into my top radiator hose to test what temperature my fan is...

    Newbie Thermo Fan Probs

I'm pretty sure the fan relay gets commands from BCM and ECU. But does the BCM always operate fan from commands that originate from ECU?

    wind deflector

Hey all, what the hell are those wind deflector thingos that go on the leading edge of the front drivers and passengers door frames to stop excess wind and rain gettin in?? And where would I find them? I want to kit out my vs commy with them :)

    Trouble starting

Get ya stater motor off and clean the contacts and bath and shake it up in a bucket of alcohol and see what gunk come out. Also inspect the earths and power wires for condition and their terminations. If it looks dirty clean it up to a shiny finish, it'll give your terminations best electrical...

    Interior light issues :(

Unsure if it's related to door switch but those things always appreciate a bit of a polish up and clean with contact cleaner, I would start with that seeing its so easy

    VS Magnum

Probably around the same as a WGR/aero body kit, which I seen a complete genuine one for $1600 but if there's no front bumper. That's the most defining feature and to not have it would make things look half done

    Coil Pack burnt wiring harness

Burnt wires will be from a short or high resistance(dirty) Connections. Also what CONROD said, there needs to be thermal grease between the DFI module and it's mount otherwise the dfi can't dissipate heat well at all. You can get the paste from jaycar or other electronics shops just ask for...

240w LED lightbar on VS ecotec

Yes it is an auto. I've got a pretty large charge wire good for 160amp(coz it's sub cable!) but yeh I talked with auto spark and they reckon the largest alternator they can get me is only an extra 10amp over the one I already have (which is 100amp). But I swear I seen 140amp alternators on the...

    Vs clubby bumper

I think the best idea is to fabricate and rivet or weld a few additional clips along that Seam to give the bumper more surface area to purchase. Also it'll make it look a lot nicer when that seam is nice and straight coz even if that one clip does hold it up, gravity eventually pulls the bumper...

vt calais drivers electric window slow.

Track is probably worn or just as likely the rivets holding the regulator to the door are have come loose and is misaligned when you need to put window up or down. Thats what my issue was. so I'd be taking the door skin off and checking if there's play between the reg and door frame, if so...

240w LED lightbar on VS ecotec

Coz what I'm thinking Is that I'm pulling 75amps just to run lights, how much current does the car take to run? Will that push the alternator over the limit? How much ya reckon for a clamp meter?

240w LED lightbar on VS ecotec

That's what is making me think, how many amps does the car pull while just running on its necessities?

240w LED lightbar on VS ecotec

Sup ppl. I'm intending to drive to Sydney soon from Perth and I want to put an LED lightbar on a roof rack for some extra light for the mostly country driving. So the question is Should my 100amp alternator be able to handle the 240watt draw the lightbar demands?..... Aswell as the four 100watt...

    Battle of the brothers.

I agree with window washer squirting diesel on the rear tyres, just don't deploy it while your driving on the road coz you will die. Also +1 to the spool idea and another real easy way to smoke up real easy is to over inflate your tyres. 55 ish psi for Stockies

    Emergency need help fault finding

If you get too worried about overheating and you still need car to get around carry plenty of distilled water around with you just incase and also disconnect you ECU temp sensor and put the connector to it out of the way of the belt. This will trick the ECU into thinking the car is overheating...

    VS dying

Same thing happened when I finished a motor change on my vs ecotech. When I took it for its test drive I found I couldn't do right hand turn unless it was at like 10kmh. Turning right at normal speeds made it stall but no problems whatsoever turning left as hard as I want. Turned out the fix was...

    VS V6 Thermo issues.

The low fan is switched purely by the BCM and the ecu/PCM switches the high fan. So I reckon it'll be either of those two. About $50 for another ecu and about $150 for a new BCM and key head

    scary!!

I had an issue with that but only when I did right hand turns at moderate speeds the car would cut out. Turned out to be the fuel filter that fixed it. I cut the old filter open and looked at the filter screen and it was clagged as **** with gunk

vs commodore thermo fan issues. fans come on at 3/4 NORMAL?OR NOT?

You got the same problem as me. It's your low fan not coming online which should happen at halfway, and then when it gets too warm high fan comes online which is at about 3/4 mark on temp gauge or when aircon is selected as they are linked. Catch is whats stopping the low fan coming on... I...

    VS Fuel Problems

Yeh I would replace the fuel filter coz they if old are usually very gunked up, it's only bout $15 and a two minute job. But if your fuel pump has been installed incorrectly then that's probably the root of the issue. The pump sits on an angle and the filter sock rests on the bottom of the swirl...
