    Locked Steering Column

This is exactly what the diagnosis was when the locksmith finally got the barrel out. Badly worn sliders. The wash up was, over Xmas new year, my Commodore was off the road for 20 days. During this period I tried every method advised on the Net / this forum and I could not get the key to...

    Locked Steering Column

As information to all, I would like to advise of a solution today. My VX 2 is now mobile again. I engaged Macarthur Locksmiths of Campbelltown in South West Sydney to come out to my house and extract to damaged ignition barrel and replace it and re key it. A very experience gentleman came...

    Locked Steering Column

Thanks for all that replied. The locksmith ( experienced in Commodore ignition barrel replacement ) route looks the safest and less stressfull for me to pursue. I note that the after market barrels on ebay are only around $25.

    Locked Steering Column

Good video, but It has a couple of gaps. I did try the cable tie and even an old feeler guage. No result. I tried this without removing the surround. I could not see what difference it makes to whether the cable tie releases the barrel.

    Locked Steering Column

I have just had my first major failure on my VX2 Equipe ( with 375,000 Klm ) on it. The ignition key will not turn and has locked the steering column. Have tried WD 40, gentile tapping, all to no avail. The key / ignition tumbler assembly will need to some how come out and a new unit...

    VX II Lower Contrl Arms

My VX II Equipe with 327,000 KLM on it has recently developed a loud clunk in the front driver side suspension area. At low speed, when I use the brakes, CLUNK ! It sounded and felt like it was coming from the brake calliper. I pulled it off and inspected it. The pistons moved OK and the pad...

Bridgestone Tyres for VX Calais & Variatronic Steering Issues

I have had 3 sets of the T001's on my VX II Equipe since 2012. The original Japanese set was the best, lasted 60,000 klm. The recent sets have been the Thai made ones. These are still good but you are looking at 50,000 off these. I have not tried the Serenitys. I have a second car, a 2009...

Thank you for your reply. I will try this path and see what I come up with for an older used unit. If this does not work out , I will try one for the Chinese made ones.

I ended up registering so I could communicate with the owner of the advertised car. This new arrangement seems like a messier procedure that the simple email correspondence that it replaced. Par for the course in this brave new world !

    Car Sales

I just made and enquiry about a Commodore on Car Sales, and received an email saying I had to register with them to do so. This is a sudden change, I have never had to do this before. I this a genuine new change or a scam ? I am reluctant to do this as they will probably sell my details...

    Air Conditioning Compressor

My 2002 VX II Equipe has had a noisy A/C Compressor unit for the past few years. It maybe the clutch or the actual compressor that id making the banging clanging sound. If it seizes, it will probably snap the drive belt one day. A brand new one from Holden costs a quarter of the value of the...

    Invisible Top Seller

I was well aware of this overseas site with with an Australian thread. Very poor site. I was hoping that with the large number of Hyundai vehicles on Australian roads that there would be a strictly Australian site, just like Just Commodores or the Ford Forum.

    Invisible Top Seller

If I ever had to part with either my XR6 Falcon or VX II Commodore, and buy a new small car for local trips and shorter runs, the Hyundai 130 SR Auto looks the stand out buy. I have been looking to bump a (male) owner in a car park and ask what he thinks of it. The problem is, I have not seen...

    Quiet Tyres

Thank you for your replies. As an update and information for all. I purchased a set of the Dunlop FM800's on a 4 for 3 deal. Narrow choice over the Pirelli Dragonsports and paying an extra $50 per tyre to go to a Michelin Pilot Sport 4. Finally got round to testing these Dunlop FM800 tyres...

    Interstate Car Purchase

Gentlemen, Thank you all for your informed and helpful replies. "Rambunctious", thank you for your detailed and informative reply. Your post covers some aspects that I did not consider, I am now better informed. "Sandman", your advice is logical. I would hate to travel interstate to...

    Interstate Car Purchase

I am in the market for a well kept low Klm VX II Equipe. The Carsales ones are in Queensland, 3 good ones ( on paper ) and I am in Sydney. To purchase a car in Queensland or any interstate car sounds messy. Has any forum member been through such a maneuver in recent times ? My initial...

    Commodore VX - Front Struts

Thank you all for your replies. I have done some more homework. The KYB units for my VX II are pitched at the FE II suspension, they clearly state this. My vehicle has a standard suspension. The Monroe units are more expensive that the Pedders struts, but they do offer 3 different valving...

    Commodore VX - Front Struts

My VX II Equipe has done 276,000 klm and I think the front struts are just about gone. I have to bounce the front suspension quiet a few times before shock inserts start working. Once I do this they seem to be OK after that. I have Pedders Comfort Ride struts and these are no longer...

    Dunlop FM 800 Tyres

An update for those interested, I have done 1,200 klm on them so far and still have good things to say about them. They are very quiet on coarse chip bitumen, which is what you want, and very quiet on smooth hot mix. Did a trip to Western NSW on them and I was pleasantly surprised to observe...

    Bridgestone Tyre Quality

I agree with all your thought out points. It looks like other tyre manufacturers besides Bridgestone have reduced the longevity of their tyres. When it all boils down, my issue is that for a given product ( ie Turanza T001's ), I am getting less usage. I might add, I have been a big fan...

    Bridgestone Tyre Quality

I once considered Bridgestone produced quality tyres, but not any more. About 5 years ago I purchased Bridgestone Turanza T001 tyres for my second car, which does local trips at mostly 60 to 80 Kph. These Japanese manufactured T001’s lasted 55,000 KLM. I was very happy with them, a quiet...

    Dunlop FM 800 Tyres

Just for everybody's information, I ended up purchasing the Dunlop FM800's. Only done 300 Klm on them over the past week. My initial impression is that they are quiet and seem to have good grip. The steering is slightly lighter as well. So far, so good. I will do a future update.

    Dunlop FM 800 Tyres

The time has come to replace my 6 year old Dunlop Sport SP01 tyres. I have been happy with these much maligned tyres, 6 and a half years old and have just hit 50,000 klm on them. They still have a touch under 4 mm tread left. These tyres are no longer available, if they were, I would go for...

    Time Traveller Tyres

I am about to replace my 6 year old 50,000 Dunlop Sport 01 tyres on my XR6. I checked the manufacture date on these, and two are 0311 and the other two are 0411. I just happened to check my purchase receipt for these tyres and it was dated March 9th, 2011. Can tyre manufacturers “forward...

    Quiet Tyres

I have had this posted for 2 months on the Ford Forum without 1 reply, very disappointing lot over there. I am after a quiet tyre replacement for my 2009 XR6. It now has the Dunlop Sport 01 ( the supplied factory tyre ). I have done 49,000 on them, still has 4mm tread and are 6 years old...

    Radiator Replacement

    Radiator Replacement

My 2002 VX II Equipe has sprung a leak somewhere near the bottom of the radiator. It is the original radiator. Looking on Ebay, there are a few ( Worley Spower etc ) for $85 to $135. The adds say they are for a VX 2002, but when you put your model into the compatibility chart below the...

    Brake Pads

I have a 2002 VX II Equipe and I am about to replace the front brake pads. The Bendix CT is my first choice, but I have just put Hi-Q pads on the rear. These seem OK so far. Has anyone run the cheaper Hi-Q pads on the front ? Are the Hi-Q Bad, acceptable, or Good ? Appreciate any informed...

    Random Engine Shutdown

I have a VX II Equipe Auto with 247,000 Klm on it as a second car. It has been a very reliable car up to now. While driving a long normally, the motor just cut out. Instant heavy steering and poor and dangerous breaking. It starts again when the gear selector is in N or Park This has...

    Going to a Cheaper Oil

Gentlemen, Thank you all for your replies. My oil usage between 5,000 KLM changes is 0.2 to 0.3 litres. Seems to use more on a highway trip. The oil usage is the same for the Magnatec 10W 40 and the mineral 15W 40 Valvoline oil. I have now done a little over 4,000 on the cheaper...
