    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

If anybody out there doing this job in the Brisbane area wants to borrow the flywheel locking tool and crackshaft socket (not really needed), harmonic balancer puller plus a tool I made to push the balancer back on, I'd be happy to share. Cheers.

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

Hello, did you replace the tensioners while you were in there? I had to wait for about 2-3 weeks for Holden at Newstead (Brisbane) to get some tensioners from the states. Pretty much no Holden in Australia had many left when I was doing mine. The guys there told me there was heaps of...

Please Help! Unsolved Misfires in Cyl 2, 4 and 6

Given that it runs properly after every reset, it might be a computer/sensor/monitoring related problem, especially given that the problem returns like clockwork once the computer leaves its closed loop parameters and starts 'tuning' itself. Rule out all the the common options between the two...

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

Got her running this afternoon. Actually started up as if it was any ordinary day, and not some 6 week complete top end tear down. Will write a conclusion post soon, and quite possibly a general guide as that seems like a good idea to anyone else that might be doing this job.

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

There is yet another special tool you can use for that, but I just went to the bolt shop and bought a longer bolt & about 10 washers to space it out if needed. Costed about $12. Used a harmonic balancer puller and a few other things lying around the garage to rig up a tool. My crank bolt is not...

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

Towards the front of the cams there is a standard hex built into the cams themselves - 19mm spanner by memory, will rotate them. They wont rotate freely due to the springs. I turned my engine with the old chains on until all marks were up top, and really didn't have to move the cams very much...

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

Well I just finished resetting all the chains and did a compression test with just the engine covers on. still very low compression - 75-100ish. Heads now coming off. Not happy.

Tensioners should take care of that once you hand turn the engine, if you have the marks lined up

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

checked and checked it, but gonna have to open it up again and see anyway. I rotated it by hand a fair bit to try and get all the marks to line up again but it must be a lot of revolutions before that happens again. In hindsight I should have rotated it a few revs, then in reverse the same...

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

Hi Vt, I have everything back together and resulted in a no start, has fuel and spark is it nearly started a couple of times. Compression test is getting 70-100 PSI on both banks. sh*t. Two of us triple checked the timing so I dont think its that, but either way everything is coming apart...

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

hmmm maybe I didn't need to remove the power steering pulley, but it seemed like the only way to get at the bolts behind it, oh well. I think the flywheel balancer pulley may have been revised in later models eg have a key for position etc. Mine is Aug 06 so one of the first VE's, and...

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

Hi Vn, Just finished typing and saw your q's. My spark plugs are still in, easy enough to turn over with them in. I have the special socket to turn the crank, but I have a feeling that you may be able to use the crankshaft bolt to do this - unconfirmed though. Flywheel needs to be locked so...

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

Thought I'd sign in and do an update from my perspective and noticed a few replies etc, but where I am at now is: Holden have no tensioners left in Australia basically, the left hand side (passenger side) is due into Melbourne on 23/03/11, and the right side is not due into Melb until...

VZ Timing Chains - hard to replace?

I've just posted a thread in the VE section how I'm about to do this, then found this thread and had a good read. Was wondering for the people that have done this, did you use the camshaft locking tool? I got the crank socket no problem but the locking tool is taking longer to find...

    Alloytec Timing Chains replacement

Hello everyone, I've recently got a check engine light and error code p0018 which is a Crankshaft/Camshaft correlation error on Bank 2, Intake sensor. Seems most likely to be a stretched timing chain so am about to tackle this myself as holden want approx $1800 to do it. I have the factory...
