    VZ Rough Idle when Cold

Glad you got it fixed but now I'm having the same problem! Could it be a coil or injector issue without showing on a diagnostic tool? I'm concerned my issue is fuel system related and its throwing a "service soon" message now.

VZ Calais Alloytec to LS Conversion

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this build progresses! There's bound to be a few headaches along the way but it will be a rewarding build that's for sure!

    VZ headrest issues

Yeah it looks like the foam has sagged and the leather has pulled away from it. You could try fitting some sort of decorative O-ring around under the plastic. something big enough that it pushes down and covers that ugly gap but looks like its supposed to be there?

    VZ SV6 sedan exhaust

Hey mate, I can assure you that at the end of the day you will have to decide for yourself as a lot to do with exhaust comes down to personal preference. That being said, for an alloytec I recommend (from experience) a Single Manta 2.5" catback, maybe even a rear resonator delete if you want a...

hahaha I like this answer. It adds a certain allure and curiosity that "bus driver" doesn't lol

I must have taken your initial response the wrong way then (and thus read following replies in the same vain.) Hope I didn't offend you in my responses, I guess the issue with words on a screen is they lack emotion or empathy. Admittedly, as a result of our discussion I have been even more...

I finally got one (VZ CALAIS)

I know what I wrote so there's clearly been a miscommunication or a misinterpretation. I started a thread to talk about my car. Not about drivers. But I agree that the worst drivers are often the ones who think they are the best on the road and I know for a fact I don't fall into that category...

I finally got one (VZ CALAIS)

Couldn't agree more mate. Thats the sort of feedback I was after. lol i wasn't aiming on opening a can of worms about good vs bad drivers, there are other sections for that. I'm just here to talk about my goddamn beautiful car! shite. Just bought some SSL's on the cheap and might put them in...

I finally got one (VZ CALAIS)

DearDon123, Whilst having taken my initial comment out of context, i would like to further discuss your opinion. I'm not sure what the road rules are where you're from but in Sydney, indicating is required by law. I don't think engine size has anything to do with it. Nor do I think that...

    Should this be pluggged in

Do you have steering wheel controls? I have a feeling thats the harness for them. If you don't have them it's possible that the loom is there regardless as a factory default for when the controls are fitted as an upper-model option. I could be totally wrong though...

    Flogging a dead horse

oh hell that's a bit annoying! I guess the gradual breakdown of parts and constantly changing them to aftermarket parts takes it toll. I guess changing it out for a better quality one would help. It certainly sounds like its taking too long to switch on at any rate

    06 Vz commodore reverse wires

Hey mate, I haven't installed one but I'm sure most of the answers are dependant on what unit you have installed. Are you connecting it to an aftermaket Head Unit? or installing a Camera + separate Screen?

    Flogging a dead horse

Sounds like a lot of work but after all that effort I can totally relate to the wanting to keep it. Us men aren't quite as maternally wired as women... but when it comes to cars... As for the future Mods, Mace is top stuff and pretty good bang for buck. If you've got the dosh I've heard the...

I finally got one (VZ CALAIS)

I mean, that is the point for me. Minor modifications that improve the car and customise it to my taste. But things that can easily be reverted back to stock if I ever do choose to sell it. The whole reason for buying a Calais was because I don't really need to change it. Love it as it is...

I finally got one (VZ CALAIS)

Cheers mate, that's exactly the answer I was looking for. Whilst I have been enjoying it in very sensibly moderate amounts, it has mostly been Sydney traffic every day. 40 zones and bumper to bumper 30-45 minutes a day must be what's killing me. Can't wait to take it out on the highway, I've...

    Vz Commodore stereo replacement

    Vz Commodore stereo replacement

Most head units come with a "cradle" that the unit slides in and out of. From experience this won't fit into the Double-DIN space of the VZ, the unit should fit reasonably snug. Your options I believe would be to remove the factory cradle and use possibly and Aerpro kit from Autobarn or similar...

I finally got one (VZ CALAIS)

That sounds good to me. I didn't realise the Calais/Berlina had less output than the SS? might be to do with them being more a "luxury" model with a more restrictive exhaust so its quieter? Noticing I might need a tune sooner rather than later: Fuel economy after a quarter tank is averaging...

I finally got one (VZ CALAIS)

Yeah they are all quite reputable. I had a friend suggest LSX Tuning in Moorebank (more local to me). But as you said I'm sure it would likely be worth getting it all done at once. Just need to have a chat and set a budget.

I finally got one (VZ CALAIS)

Thanks for the feedback guys. As for the stock comment, you really think so? I've waited so long and suffered too many (farty) V6 Exhausts. Now having a V8 I would love to feel that beautiful rumble. I know there are exhaust threads but surely a minor adjustment would make for better...

I finally got one (VZ CALAIS)

Cheers dude, Yeah I'm actually really happy that it's completely stock and not overly modded. The VZ Calais is the one model that I just love the look of as-is. doesn't need to be touched. I may make a few minor changes down the track: modest exhaust, intake and a tune, new head unit (keep the...

I finally got one (VZ CALAIS)

I've been on this forum for a number of years dropping in and out and after owning a few commodores over the years (all modest V6's) I have finally bought a V8. A gorgeous Silver 2005 VZ Calais in mint condition (160,000km - no mods) I couldn't be happier! I'm sure there are many threads...

    VX Calais Audio Options

Hey guys, I just picked up an Ecotev VX Calais on the cheap and I'm already quite impressed with the audio system for its age. I've popped in a Kenwood Bluetooth Double Din but I'm wondering what the most cost effective upgrade would be. I don't want to build a fancy 3k system since the car...

    Vz alloytec otr intake

Just got a Growler Intake at the moment. I'm not sure an OTR will make a MASSIVE difference but the Growler looks just as restrictive as the stock intake not and takes minimal air from being the passenger headlight. OTR would reduce the distance between the intake and the Throttle Body and allow...

    Slowing Using Gears

Oh of course! I know it sounded stupid but figured it couldn't hurt to ask. So it's actually damaging to the gearbox forcing it down gears? Sure, it works in manual but I never thought it would be too seriously damaging?

    Slowing Using Gears

Recently was reading a thread and found this quote? "just by any chance you dont slow your car by pulling it down through the gears do you?" Someone care to elaborate on why this could cause problems? I have done it in the past but didn't think it was bad for the transmission by any means?

    upgrade the big 3

Bit of a dig but this is the best guide I could find.. so my question: Is 0 Gauge entirely necessary? I mean, If I'm not running a ten billion Watt setup would 2G or even 4 suffice?

Swap the aircon and stereo around in dash possible

I was recently looking into this also, It would likely be easier to mount the screen above the control dials (non climate control) and possibly move the air vents but this also causes issues of its own. If you were to split the vents you would need a custom tunnel for each of the vents and...

Crewman 6 Spd manual clutch noise

Might not be anywhere near the right answer but... Have you checked your exhaust heat shields? Seems most VZ's get this issue which I also had recently. Heck, it's likely something else but worth looking at.
