[VR-VS] How To: Fix the VS V6 4 Wire O2 sensor earth problem – Known Holden Problem

Just a bit of feedback. My VS started idling very roughly, almost wanting to stall some times, only on idle. It was getting code 76 and was also taking a lot longer to start. Fuel consumption has always been okay but never great. I tinkered with a lot of different things with no improvement...

My 1995 Holden VS Berlina Sedan - L67, A2A Intercooled, Plus Heaps More

Sad to see you lost interest in it Ben, such a great build with some pretty serious numbers. On the plus side though, I see you have a nice L67 VY :spot on:

    My 1996 VSII Berlina

Thanks mate :spot on: They're great cars, your's would have been like brand new with those k's. I would have loved to drive a VS in it's prime, with those k's.

    VS V6 Statesman running issues

Did you reset the ecu after replacing those parts? Those codes could be a combination of previous faults and current ones. That'll narrow down the fault codes a bit more. This is basically a process of elimination. My VS has actually started to behave like this too lately, only on idle. A good...

    My 1996 VSII Berlina

Ticked over 180,000k's recently, still running beautifully. I've been doing a lot more highway driving with work now, so the km's are gonna start stacking on. Done some little mods, plus the usual routine service/maintenance. I sewed up an ebay perforated leather steering wheel cover...

My 1995 Holden VS Berlina Sedan - L67, A2A Intercooled, Plus Heaps More

Gotta be happy with those numbers mate, that torque figure is unreal! Congrats on getting this far  I remember in your old thread you were gonna install some SS fog lamps, are you still going that route? That is if the cooler pipes permit. Looking forward to seeing some vids now

    MAF Sensor whistling

Shouldn't really be whistling, just inspect the intake assembly when removed. Also check any vacuum hoses/connections near the plenum and throttle body, as they tend to make a 'whistling sound' if disconnected/damaged, it could be vacuum leak. The connector on the air box you're referring to...

    New LIM gaskets needed?

No idea what sizes they were mate, sorry. I just had an assorted set of o-rings and picked one that fit snug around the pipes. There are only 2 O-rings and they're both a different size. I think Holden still sell them, but are quite pricey for just o-rings. As for the PCV, any auto store like...

    New LIM gaskets needed?

Yep, looks like it's you LIM gaskets, pretty straightforward job. I went with the AC Delco aluminium set supplied by MACE, and they've been great so far. Also replace your PCV valve, and the 2 heater pipe o-rings while you're there. As for the radiator cap, from experience, I found the Tridon...

    My 1996 VSII Berlina

Thanks bud. Good to see someone getting ideas from the little mods done. Tidy ute you got there, looks pretty straight. I always liked the three seaters. It definitely sucks driving without power steering, the new pump fixed that.

    My 1996 VSII Berlina

Ticked over 170,000kms this week. Fitted a brand new power steering pump and fluid reservoir after having no power assistance at idle speeds for a little while. So much nicer to drive now. Fitted a Statesman glove box cooler. Statesman rear door pockets, vinyl dyed to suit...

    Engine overheating !

Sounds like your low speed fan isn't kicking in. It should start at 1/2, and if it heats up to 3/4, the high speed takes over. Mine never gets to 3/4 as the low speed fan is enough to keep it under 1/2. I'd check the low speed fan relay like two-bit said.

    VS EXEC 95 model BT1. 5 litre no cruise,meow to fit ?

Live axle was standard for both Exec and Berlina, and IRS was an optional extra for both. I'd say when an exec was issued with the BT1 option, there would also be the remaining options offered for the police to choose from. I've seen an IRS Exec at the wreckers. They are not common at all...

    My 1996 VSII Berlina

Yeah for sure mate :spot on: If you're going LED, consider going warm white. I done everything in cool white and I kind of regret it now, the interior doesn't feel as 'luxury' as it used to. At least with warm LED's, you have the benefit of them being very bright and they maintain the...

    leather/luxury interior?

Seats and door trims are a straight swap from VN-VS. Look for some VS Calais or Statesman seats and door trims, they're a nice looking set. Also consider a Series 2/3 VS Statesman centre console, also a straight swap, and looks a lot more classy.

Thanks mate. Yeah fronts are factory on Berlina's, I just replaced the bulbs with led's.

    My 1996 VSII Berlina

Likewise mate, your VS is an inspiration, love seeing updates in your thread and the work you put into it. I'm just trying to retrofit most of the Calais/Statesman goodies while keeping the Berlina interior trim, so no leather or woodgrain. The down side with this approach is, I can't fit the...

    My 1996 VSII Berlina

Came back from overseas and started her up for the first time in 3 months. Surprised to see it fired right up instantly, was running a bit rough for a few minutes but a long idle, new fuel and a few hard revs fixed that. Done a few more little interior mods. Fitted a series 1 VS Statesman...

My 1995 Holden VS Berlina Sedan - L67, A2A Intercooled, Plus Heaps More

Coming along nicely mate. It's a pain how the power window switches don't have plugs in their loom for Berlina's, I noticed Calais' have them. Might wire in plugs on mine.

[VR-VS] VR/VS Fog Lamp Wiring Diagram

The switch loom/plug will not be in the dash, however everything else is ready to go. All you need to do is splice in the plug and then it's just a matter of connecting the relay, switch, and lights. It's pretty easy after you remove the dash facsia and fuse panel, all the wires you need to...

    1997 VSII L67 Calais

Very nice, clean Calais mate. I saw this one for sale not too long ago, and I don't think one like this will come around again. Congrats on the purchase, enjoy driving it and look after her. Standard Calais rims are really nice, I'd go for a set of them. As for the fuel consumption, it seems...

1998 5L VS series 11 Stato - VT roller cam motor?

Series II Caprice and Statesman's ended in June 98. June 98-99 were series 3's and only they should have the VT V8, which was the roller block. Edit: Actually, found this thread, not all series III's were rollers, should have the info you need...

VR Statesman L3 Dash Loom in VS Berlina

My Berlina never had the wiring there too, although at the wreckers I noticed some Acclaims had it and some didn't. I believe there would have been a power pack optioned from factory to some Acclaims which included the extra fog lamp loom. Berlina's already had all the power options so there was...

VR Statesman L3 Dash Loom in VS Berlina

Also in addition to the clock, being a VR dash, it never had the passenger air bag fitted on the dash, so there is the extra storage compartment in it's place, with it's own illumination lamp and switch. All you need to do is use the positive from the lower glove box light and then give the...

VS 2 Statesman Air Condition Problem

Sounds like a vacuum problem. Foot vents are the default air flow direction so when there is a fault/lack of vacuum, you'll have only the foot vents working. More than likely it'll be your vacuum solenoid unit, located in the centre console below the head unit. The solenoids in the unit get...

    My 1996 VSII Berlina

What are the small diameter hoses running into the plenum chamber on a VS?

At the back of the plenum, the large hose goes to your brake booster, the medium one goes to the fuel regulator and the smallest one goes to a fitting on the firewall right behind the plenum, just as adam mentioned. Between the plenum chamber and throttle body there are 2 hose fittings, they...

VR Senator wiring... particularly cigarette lighter.

Can't help you with the lighter but it looks like there should be another loom for the cigarette lighter and illumination plugged into it. Not too sure though. As for the little pipe, it is supposed to connect to the back of your climate control unit, where the interior temp sensor is, see...

Weird idle changing between D and R

Mine did this a while ago, it would almost feel like stalling for a few seconds as you described. Turns out I was low on transmission fluid from a slow trans cooling hose leak. I topped up and it was back to normal again. I'd suggest checking your trans fluid level as per the user manual...

    VN Map Lights

This is correct, the map lights are a reverse polarity connection. No matter how you turn the bayonet it wont work because the negative is at the tip of the bayonet and positive on the side. When using standard halogens, this doesn't matter because they can be hooked up any way, however, LED's...

    Flywheel bolts (vs ecotech

75-90Nm for the flywheel to crank bolts is for the VN series 1 only. The VS V6 require 18-22Nm, then an additional 50 degrees turn respectively. As far as I know there are no washers involved too mate.

Coolant in reservoir bubbling up.. (VR)

More than likely it'll be the inlet manifold gasket, they are prone to failure. Watch out for other symptoms to confirm this though. Excessive water out the exhaust, coolant contaminated with oil and vice-versa, sludge build-up on the inlet manifold itself, a loss of coolant level in general to...
