LOL!! Thanks Mischa - just want to see if I can improve the protection to make 'em a little more reliable.... I wouldn't want to mess with working ones though. ;)

Wanted - faulty V8 ingnition trigger modules / boxes

G'day all. I'm after a few broken / faulty / knackered 5 litre ignition control boxes. These are renowned for failing, so there should be plenty out there... ;) (I had one fail myself some little while ago, but at the time had no option but an exchange with a working unit from a wrecker...

Jesus christ!! When are hrt going to wake the hell up????

HAH!! You're entitled to your opinion Pal, but you're seriously deluded if you think I give a fat rat's ring WHAT you think of me.... So save your personal insults for someone who cares. This is a FORUM - where FREE SPEECH is supposed to be encouraged - I said my bit, you said yours. We're as...

Jesus christ!! When are hrt going to wake the hell up????

HAH!! Yes, as usual I've been a little restrained.... ;) Immortality - good one, but I'm afraid I don't get it.... As far as Clowndes being Holden at heart - as far as I recall, when he FIRST went to the "dark side" people were banging on about how he was a deep down Ford man -...

Jesus christ!! When are hrt going to wake the hell up????

How many times are we going to witness HRT losing races IN THE PITS, before they SACK the USELESS WASTES OF SPACE the have in there swinging the spanners?? :upyours: Seriously, my 12 year old son could do a better job than these clowns.... Engines blowing up, wheels falling off.... What...

    VS 5 litre overheating troubles...

HAH!!! Yeah, believe me I have no intention of leaving it that way!! (Eeeew, it's horrible too.... It's been flinging all that silicone gel from the bolt holes all over the inside of the shroud...) Seriously though, I just did that to confirm my suspicion - I'm replacing that clutch, or...

    VS 5 litre overheating troubles...

Hey, thanks for all the help and suggestions guys!!!! I found the problem!!! The BLOODY fan clutch - not picking up the friction at all, still freewheeling even when full hot. I did what's probably a bit of a stupid thing, but once I'd decided that the fan clutch was malfunctioning, I drilled...

    VS 5 litre overheating troubles...

Hey, thanks Hako! I'll give those couple of things a try... Just spoken to a mate who has a timing light, so I'll check the base timing tonight, as well as the bottom hose. Good point about the rusty water, I'll check that out. If Chemi-weld (or a similar product) will get me out...

    VS 5 litre overheating troubles...

Hmm, thanks Greenfoam.... That's the impression I was under - I though they should "firm up" when hot.... The one in the Statey doesn't really, it seems to pretty much "freewheel" all the time, even when real hot.... Although I would have thought that when I'm on the move at any decent road...

    VS 5 litre overheating troubles...

Hmmmm, here's some funky extra info guys.... Had to drop my boys back to their Mum's place tonight - Oh, DelcoWiz - tried your procedure above, didn't really make any difference.... On the way home along the M4 though (which I'm on for 25 minutes or so) I found that turning the heater on full...

    VS 5 litre overheating troubles...

Thanks again fellas - DelcoWiz - thanks for the tip Mate, makes sense! :D Hako - your suggestion is a good one too - reckon I might just do that. (coolant test...) It's possible that the bottom hose is collapsing I guess, wouldn't be terribly clostly to replace anyway. Anyhow, here's...

    VS 5 litre overheating troubles...

Delcowiz - is there a process for bleeding trapped air from the cooling system? According to the Holden manual, there's no particular procedure... The radiator cap is the highest point in the system as far as I'm aware... I know there's a need to bleed the V6, but the V8?? (if there's a...

Thanks for the input guys.... Yeah, I wasn't really suspecting the fan.... VRWagz - thanks for thap tip - I'll have a squiz at that.... And check the timing I guess.... Bloody hell, I hope it's not the gasket.... Bastard of a job.... Hako, understand your point, but it's a dramatic rise...

    VS 5 litre overheating troubles...

G'day there guys. My VSII V-8 is getting too hot, but it's a bit of a wierd one.... It only seems to overheat when on the freeway, or during a sustained higher speed run for 20+ minutes or so. Putting around in traffic doesn't bother it too much. I've checked the obvious things, replaced...

Steering Wheel Controls Using A PESWIPS device

As a bit of additional info.... On examinig the wiring diagrams in the VY/VZ manual, I discovered that once the factory stereo has been removed, then the two wires from the remote buttons are effectivey disconnected from everything. Therefore, when you wire into the converter box, there's no...

On behalf of my son, I'm advertising for sale a near new 50" LG Plasma telly. It's in excellent nick, one small mark on the front bezel - it's otherwise in perfect condition. No dead pixels, no screen burn. Built in HD tuner, full HD display, HDMI/USB/VGA/SVideo/Component/Composite inputs...

Yes, good point Andy. (I'll get that strip of LEDs to you real soon too Mate - sorry about that....) Again, that's the thing with these thinner runnier oils I guess... Ah, not to worry - I'm doing an oil change this weekend, so I'll keep a close eye on it. Thatnks for your tip too CNULTR -...

powertrain error sending me to the nuthouse

That might be it.... I know the 190KW Alloytec has a four sensor setup.... I think the later versions of the 175KW did as well.... (that's not from anywhere official though, it's just that I experienced the problem in my son's SV6 after the rear left O2 sensor wire got torn off by road...

    Conclusive answers about VZ clusters

OK - Cooper, yes to all the above... ;) The shift-up warning.... That can be enabled on lower end clusters, but only works for manual trans. It is possible to add a shift-up light, but it requires the addition of some components on the cluster PCB. (which I can do...) If you have a HSV...

Alloytec 190 - Hmmmm, I sseem to be using a little oil....

Thanks for the responses guys.... To address a couple of the questions asked - Ash, no there are no other symptoms. In fact it's running like an absolute dream - drove beautifully for the trip, and got 800 Ks on a tank again - and only managed to squeeze just over 71 litres in.... :woohoo: I...

Alloytec 190 - Hmmmm, I sseem to be using a little oil....

G'day All. A little worrying.... I noticed on my trip to Adelaide recently that my dear A190 used more than just a teeny bit of oil.... In fact, it seems in around 3500 kays I've gone through over a litre, probably 1 1/2. I can't see any evidence of leaking, and if I was burning that much oil...

How do you guys mount your Amps?

Pez - depends on the individual amp really. If the amp is prone to overheating in even ideal install locations, then it might give trouble. If it's a normally "cool running" amp, it's most likely fine. But definitely what Panda said about securely mounting it!! Cheerz.

How do you guys mount your Amps?

G'day DUK13Y - I will get back to you shortly Mate... swweefu - theres a kind of "box section" along the forward edge of the shelf, the hinge is attached to the underside of that. Steel pop rivets. (don't use aluminium ones, vibrations from serious subs will eventually flog out the rivets and...

How do you guys mount your Amps?

My mounting method in a VZ - will work in a VT as well... 6mm Aluminium checkerplate (real stuff, not the Ricebarn plastic muck...) with a piano hinge along the front edge - swings down to get to the power/speaker wiring if needed. Amps mount "right way up", and the al plate gives additional...

Jaycar Response Dissapointment - Ive lost $500!!!

The point is here that it's a disappointment. It's just not what we're accustomed to from Jaycar / Electus. I've been a customer of Jaycar - and then Electus - for well over twenty years. I have seen the quality slide dramatically in the recent past, and the emphasis now seems to be a...

    VE omega stereo

Six stacker or single player doesn't make any difference at all - a Line Output Converter (LOC) simply sits across the speaker outputs and limits the signal voltage - this prevents overloading the front end of the external amp(s) However, I wouldn't use LOCs in a pink fit - c'mon Ryan - you...
