    elctric commy idea

I had a chance to see the ECOmmodore at the paralympics in 2000, it was an awesome looking car, from memory it had the front 3/4 of a VT and from the c pillar back it was the (as yet unreleased) Monaro. Mike

    elctric commy idea

For electric motors you wont need to find one that revs that high, You will have all sorts of trouble with transmission and couplings. There are specific motors for ev conversions around the 100KW mark. Take a look at UQM Technologies Mike

    Diagnostic Cable On Ebay

I don't think that efilive4 (even the full version) can do much to edit your ecu. I think you need a different cable and program. Mike

Have you ever stopped to give a stranger a tow?

wow, this is a blast from the past! Since I posted this I have helped tow people to the side of the road. Once some guy's car died uphill on a busy intersection so we towed him around the corner. And when my poor VN was in it's dying stages someone gave me a lift home to get some tools...

New here. Looking to buy a Commodore. Not sure which one

I have a VX SII and the only problem I have had is the the fuel gauge sender unit was sticking, telling me I have 1/4 a tank of fuel when it was dry. Apparently this is a common fault. Otherwise the car has been fine. Mike

    Anyone dislocated a shoulder?

I dislocated my shoulder at the fairly weak end of the spectrum. I didn't go in for surgery but had a lot of physio. It was a few years ago now but every now and then I have to go to physio to get the knots in the muscle massaged out. At the risk of stating the obvious don't skimp on the...

Auto lights off has stopped working

Hello all, My VX SII Acclaim has/had a feature when you stop the engine and open the door the headlights will turn off. However, in the past few days (not exactly sure when) it has seemed to stop working, now when I leave the car the lights are still on. I guess the fault lies in the guts...

VX stereo ugrade and steering wheel control question.

Cool, I didn't know they were that cheap, with our dollar at the moment you could probably get a better deal. When I asked JB to install one they were going to charge me extra to install the converter over and above the cost of the radio install. Personally if I had the choice I'd get a...

VX stereo ugrade and steering wheel control question.

I am working on a prototype of the converters myself. But if you want something that works out of the box then yes, more head units will have the electronics built in to them. More knowledgeable people than I will tell you which ones to buy. Expect to pay about 100 more for the radio, but...

The study thread (highschool, tertiary all welcome)

Yep, I have to agree, my uni experience was also positive. I worked bloody hard and got a lot out of it. It helpped that the uni was one of the Major engineering unis in Aus. As for google, well... that didn't really exist in '94 Mike

    Alternative power sources

A few technologies that are on the rise, not ready for tomorrow but soon. (for what it is worth I did my Ph.D in solar so I have spent a bit of time on these) Two good 'baseline' electrical sources 1)Hot-rock. A type of geothermal where you drill a deep hole and pump water down, collect...

    computer problems

I think (not 100%) that the problem is the switch that is on the auto to stop you starting it in gear. In the manual this link is just shorted out. do a search for "transmission switch" or something like that. Hope this helps Mike

Yes, the VR/VS has a strange code I am still trying to sort out. So at he moment it is VT->VZ only. Mike

Steering wheel converters, looking for beta testers.

The IR part is good to go so I am not selling them for 35 any more. When I have a few more made up I'll sell them here for 75 which is 25-50 less than what I sell them for on ebay. I should have a bunch in a week or so. Mike

Steering wheel converters, looking for beta testers.

The pc interface is ready for testing. Basically if you have an in-car pc this will translate the signal from the steering wheel controls to a character on the com port (via usb). I have a winamp plugin that works with the unit and there are a few pc controlers as well (Girder and others)...

    First Car

Stamp duty. Is the transfer fee that you have to pay to the state. What it is for is propping up the NSW economy. From memory (anyone can leap in here, or better still check the RTA) it is $300 + 2% of the value of the car. As for insurance the way the insurance blokes see it. Young...

Steering wheel converters, looking for beta testers.

I am off to the mines this weekend to do some survey work but after that I'll give the Clarion and kenwood a go. After that The IR version will be considered live. I have the design ready for the direct connect units and will move on to that next. Also does anyone want to test the boards...

Steering wheel converters, looking for beta testers.

I have the pioneer code almost done and kenwood should not pose any problems. I am off to the mines for the next two weeks so I won't be able to do much. When I get back I'll have the Pioneer and Kenwood ones sorted. Statey but if you are after one for a VR like your profile I am afraid I...

"Rev her in neutral and dump it into drive bro" - Is anyone that stupid?

If I remember correctly one of the torture tests for the transmission is to take the car to a gravel pit out at Lang Lang, plant the boot and swap between R and D.

2001 VX Codes are they OBD-II or not????

The VX (and VT) V6's run ALDL I know it has a OBDII shaped plug but if you plug an OBD2 scanner into one you will get nothing. The V8s (5.7L Ls1/GenIII) run OBD 2. However as with all LS1/GENIII engine control units the OBDII fault code retrieval is non-standard so you can't use a generic...

    OBD2 Scanner

Sorry no. The V6 Ecotech speaks ALDL NOT OBD2. I know it is in a OBD2 shapped plug but any obd2 scanner wont work. The only commodores that use OBD 2 are the 5.7L V8's and the alloytechs onwards. The Ecotech still uses ALDL. Mike

Wet Carpet In VS Calais? Help Please

    silly idea to save petrol

Your exhaust gas would be VERY lean and the engine computer would pump more fuel into the remaining cylinders as it reads the oxygen sensor in the exit manifold. Things could get very confusing for the ECU in the long run. Also the cat converter would not like it too much, again the exhaust...

    Hobby or Business

I faced this same question with my ebay emipre with the aldl cables. Looking at the ATO website the question that seems most important is "is it viable?" ie could you live off it? My ebay empire is for beer money so it fails the viability test. Look at the hours you put in and the...

has anyone had experience with this?

I use open office and have found it very useful. I wrote my Ph.D thesis on it so even if you are planning on writing the great Australian novel, Open office will probably do. It even comes at the right price. It can read microsoft office files as well. Mike
