2004 VZ Commodore "Check Power Train"

if holden really are the ones who caused it you should have no issues taking it back - they are accountable for all of their work just like any mechanic in australia. it would be silly to buy a scantool or pay to have it scanned if that's the case. dare i ask what work they were doing on the car...

    Modifying a Commodore

I too support the "it's your car" thinking. Go for it! Surprise us with something sexy that we've never seen before. If I was to recommend audio gear, I'd recommend a couple of these subwoofers and this amp... but only if you're serious about it ;)

Is a dealer responsible for a defect?

It's moot now but I was totally polite. He really didn't give me the time of day. Just walked up to the window, RBT'd me, asked "do you have a rear muffler?", I said, "hope so....", he disappeared for a coupla minutes, came back and said "thats a $108 fine, and a defect, you've got an hour to...

Is a dealer responsible for a defect?

didn't mean to suggest you didn't know :) I'm just angry that out of "no inspection required", "minor inspection" and "full inspection" they slapped me with the full inspection for something so trivial I get that they do it to cars they think are ****/old/unsafe so the drivers that can't afford...

Is a dealer responsible for a defect?

Yes but BLUE slips are a more thorough inspection typically reserved for cars that have been unregistered for a long time or need engineering. They're more expensive and not every mechanic can do them. It was totally unnecessary for just a muffler, the cop just wanted to make it more difficult...

Is a dealer responsible for a defect?

thanks for the input guys :) definitely happy with the redback, even if it's not stainless. It has larger, meaner looking tips than the stock as well Just wished the bloody cops hadn't put it down for needing a full blue slip to clear the defect, I already have to get inspections every 12...

Is a dealer responsible for a defect?

That's how I felt but the bloke looked after me pretty well - he put those tyres and rims on, brand new, and still shaved 2.5k off the asking price. Maybe he's a dodgy car dealer but i'd still feel guilty Have gone and thrown a redback catback on. Can't wait to hear how it sounds :)

Is a dealer responsible for a defect?

cheers guys. Yeah I suppose I could have a whinge and he might help me out but considering the bloke replaced the gearbox already i think i'll let it slide... Might fit a catback or something. What can I expect to pay for an exhaust place to weld in a new muffler? I was parked, idling. :/ He...

Is a dealer responsible for a defect?

Hi all Picked up my vy clubsport a few days ago and just got defected for "rear muffler missing" - it's been replaced with straight bits of pipe. I didn't know about it (should have checked it out admittedly) but I got defected and fined $108 nonetheless. Should I hold the dealer...

Post Pictures of your VY here.

2003 VY Clubsport Series II Hi all :) Just picked up my 10/2003 clubby. It's the series II - so it makes 285KW and has the 48mm headers and 2.5" dual exhaust. It's in mint condition and has just had a reco gearbox and new tyres fitted courtesy of the dealer due to the issues they had...

Problems to look for in a second hand car?

have a look at your cooling system. is it brown and full of muck? Likely it has been neglected and the heater core or piping is blocked. Give the heater hoses a squeeze. They're the thinner ones that go into the firewall. If they feel 'crunchy' or overly hard, there's a build up of crap inside...

Buying a VY Clubby - where to start?

hi again getting it back with new gearbox, new tyres and new bushes :) I plan to rebuild the brakes as soon as I get it back and am just wondering if it is worth my time upgrading them instead while I'm at it? I won't be doing anything more performance-wise than a basic mafless tune and otrcai...

Holden Calais price to good to be true ?

That car seems reasonably priced... it's supercharged but still only a V6. Use your best judgement/the judgement of a vehicle inspector re: the condition of the car. Don't forget to start by offering 8 thou ;) Look for wear and excessive lash in the drivetrain, issues with the gearbox etc that...

    Issues with VY'S

Hi guys is the ashtray supposed to close fully on a VY clubby SII? It doesn't feel broken but it sits open. I've seen the hinges have issues but not sure if that's it.

Looks like it has dropped second gear :( The dealer has seemed like a good bloke through the whole deal and has taken it straight to get fixed.

Buying a VY Clubby - where to start?

Thanks for the feedback! Some good tips in there. Have picked up the car, what a beast!! I don't feel I'll be needing any extra power. After driving around for a bit over an hour, the gearbox has decided it doesn't want to let go of first gear :/ It's really bad, if I don't back right off the...

Buying a VY Clubby - where to start?

Hi all! I'm heaps stoked - picking myself up a 2003 Series II VY clubby soon but I have a few questions. What things should I look for, like common issues, etc? What mods are commonly done to these? It's completely stock except for the wheels. I was thinking of taking it down the road to...

Just bought a 94 VR s pack ute, couple of small issues

Gday all :) I just picked up a reasonably tidy VR ute, V6 auto. It's got a couple of small issues I was hoping you guys could help me out with Firstly, the aircon doesn't work. The clutch on the compressor doesn't engage at all and there's no gas in the piping. I checked this by removing the...

2004 VZ Commodore "Check Power Train"

Thanks guys i shall check as soon as I'm home today :) I'm hoping its something either with the plug or the sensor itself. I dread following wires under the dash

2004 VZ Commodore "Check Power Train"

OK, I got it back and the result was that there is a cable break somewhere between the mass airflow sensor and the ECU. Now to go pull off all the plastic covers and find the damn sensor... anybody have a wiring diagram?

2004 VZ Commodore "Check Power Train"

Yeah I disconnected the battery and it cleared the error but did not help the problem :( derrro thanks for the offer but at the moment I don't think the car would make it... It was playing up a lot yesterday. For now I'll stop driving it until it is fixed Thanks for the advice Trent L i'll...

2004 VZ Commodore "Check Power Train"

Does anyone around Newcastle, NSW have a scan tool? I have called literally every mechanic I can find within range of where I live and none of them can manage to find five minutes to scan the computer between now and christmas.... :hmmm: Can i do it without a scan tool?

2004 VZ Commodore "Check Power Train"

G'day all! I wish I could say my first post here was a bit happier! I just got hold of a 2004 VZ commodore which is otherwise in great nick except for the following problem. When i start the engine cold, it does it check etc.... and comes up with "Check Power train". It doesn't idle properly...
