That image represents a "broken link". The original picture has been removed and the link no longer works. Might have to have a hunt around for the image link. I assume they were hosted externally, but it they were hosted on Just Commodores, it might be worth a reach out to the admins for...

What did you do to your VR/VS today?

Swapped over the coil (what an awkward job that is!) and the beast still didn't fire into life - although it appeared to spark once then stop. Figured it was to do with either the distributor or the ignition module, but after playing with the cable into the module, it started up good as gold...

What did you do to your VR/VS today?

Went to start the VS SS on Monday - no fire in the belly of the beast! It happened once before, but swapping around the relays brought it back to life. Having a read about it, the general consensus is that if there are misfiring issues or other issues prior to it failing then it is something...

[General] [VR/VS/VT/VX/VY/VZ] Everything to know about ALDL Diagnostic Cables

What would be ideal is if the software had the option for you to deactivate the license prior to uninstalling/rebuilding your PC then you could activate it again on the new build. I had the issue where my key didnt work from the get go, email to the supplier and it got sorted though which was...

    Fuel tank breather lines.

Thanks guys, I suspect I am wrong regarding the SS being series 2 based on the PDF and what is setup on the V6 Exec (definately Series 2) I am going to drop the tank on the SS this weekend and see what i can see. I understand it is a pain in the butt though, one of the threads talked about...

What did you do to your VR/VS today?

Put to use the long evenings of lockdown here in NZ and made an effort to detail the engine bay of the SS

    Fuel tank breather lines.

Going to resurrect this thread to see if i chance it that someone has the same setup and can provide a photo or two to confirm how the lines run. I have two series 2 VS Commodores, one the V6 Executive, and the other a V8 SS. The fuel vapor return lines on the SS have perished (the shitty...

fan/blower not working - tried everything!

Yeah, if memory serves me right, you drop the glove box. Then there is a black plastic cover that will need to be removed next. I can't remember if you need to take off any of the surround around the stereo etc, but it's not too bad if you just follow your nose. Once you see the bottom of the...

fan/blower not working - tried everything!

I recently had the issue where my VS SS fan wasn't working (not working from when i brought it) and i ended up having to replace the entire fan. You can get to the plug for the fan motor from behind the glove box, i tested it with a multi meter and confirmed that power was getting to the fan...

What did you do to your VR/VS today?

Finally got around to fitting an oil catch can i brought ages ago. Umm'ed and ah'ed about installing it for a while, but after having a look down the throat of the beast and seeing the oil'y mess on the sides figured it would be only a good thing. Followed info found here, and only plumbed it...

How TO replace the blower fan motor VS

So, nearly a year on from this post I have finally sorted the issue out. Late last year, i got hold of a guy who was wrecking a VS and allowed me to come down and pull the blower motor from the car. I removed the whole dash and what a pain! so many cables are tucked up and so many steps - so I...

    Ask the IT Network Engineer

Having a look at the unit's operation manual (https://www.uniden.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/GDVR_4T40_8T40_8T80_OM.pdf) It looks like you can use an app on Android or iOS to access the device, so based on that i would say you should be able to access a web console of sorts from a local...

    Advanced Engine Diagnostics help

Hey, sorry for the delay, i had a **** of a day yesterday and didnt get out to grab the logs for you. I have recorded two sets of logs via AED and saved them here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1InCm14Yb9wF2XoImy7KC4PhgOgH0Lg_T You can replay them through your copy of AED and see what is...

    Advanced Engine Diagnostics help

My SS had an issue a few months back while the wife was driving it where she said the CEL came on then turned off again. I drove it around but couldn't get it to fault (even ran it with AED running to try catch what was happening). Shortly after that, i found there was a leak in the intake...

    Losh's VR Ute build thread

Loving the regular updates on this thread, you are like the energizer bunny of posting and working on the VR! I am happy to get photos of my VS V6 if you need to reference anything against yours

What did you do to your VR/VS today?

Noticed over the past few weeks that coolant was disappearing from the SS every few days. Would top it up maybe 250ml each time, but found it was getting progressively worse (more coolant each time) Checked the water pump, that was all good. Checked the heater hoses, small drip from the heater...

Might be time to invest in a welder to touch up small breaks like this. I wouldnt imagine silicone would last long with heat+movement

    304 retro-fit knock sensor

Thanks dude, I have a 185chip which I was tempted to use (it has the knock sensor board on it - came out of a HSV) but i might have a look at re-tuning my current 165 chip to something better instead. Cheers

    304 retro-fit knock sensor

Gonna drag this thread up from the dead, and might have some dumb questions. Deuce, did you ever end up putting the knock sensor in? Did you have any trouble getting it to work?

What did you do to your VR/VS today?

I tidied up the engine covers a bit. The red on black looks pretty nice. Used a syringe with a needle to get the paint to flow nicely into the lettering and logo, still made a few mistakes, but a lot less than with a brush!

    James' VS SS

Been awhile since i have done too much to the old girl, apart from washing and polishing the beast. I have done a bit with some of the clearcoat patches that were peeling, so will put an update up about that soon. But in the meantime i tidied up the engine covers a bit. The red on black looks...

Yeah, it is was the fully synthetic oil (http://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/Product/Penrite-Pro-Gear-Oil-80W-140-2-5-Litre/342315) though it didnt cost me as much as it did you! Maybe things got cheaper over time.

What did you do to your VR/VS today?

I touched up the spots where the clear coat had come away, on the boot, roof and bonnet. Didnt come up too bad, you can still see a bit of an outline on some of the spots, but it is mainly where the new clear coat didnt quite fill the hole up to the same level. But over all, pretty pleased...

    Who here uses Photobucket?

Cool, thanks Darren! Do you want us to start listing threads that have photobucket images loaded on them (that arent loading?) Seems like we are loading you up with heaps of work though!

    Who here uses Photobucket?

I haven't used photobucket for years now, i always found it too cumbersome to get photos up. I have used a local company here in NZ for some of my pics (iforce.co.nz) I was having a read - apparently you can still view the photos by copying the link and opening it in a new tab, but for some...

Thoughts on 185kw ECU into 165kw SS

Thanks, i will check the memcal tonight - pull the cover off and have a look-see. I have been having a read over some of the articles on the PCMHacking site and there is a huge amount of information for me to digest to get my head around it all. From what i can gather so far i can read the...

Thoughts on 185kw ECU into 165kw SS

Thanks guys, really appreciate the feedback. The SS has a CAI already installed (maybe factory?) And i plan to get some better headers for the car eventually. The interesting twist with the whole thing is that the 185kw chip is already a modified chip (by a crowd in Auckland) so it could have...

What did you do to your VR/VS today?

Productive weekend. Managed to get a few things sorted on the beast which was nice. Changed the transmission oil and filter - unfortunately it looked like the previous owner wasn't so good at keeping it serviced. The oil was still red (so not burnt thankfully) but it was very dark. The little...

Thoughts on 185kw ECU into 165kw SS

Hi all, I have tried to do some research into this to get some idea of the pros and cons of doing what i am about to suggest below. But have been unable to find an answer that is close enough related to what i am asking to make me feel comfortable in doing the change. The idea: I have a 96 SS...

How TO replace the blower fan motor VS

I attempted this on Sunday afternoon, but hit a bit of a road block. I managed to remove everything up until i got the steel panel that covers the fan fins and motor. I removed the three screws from the bottom, three from the top and the two that were by the hinges for the white dome cover...

    James' VS SS

Ah wicked, never thought about that way of doing it. Will be perfect for the tight spaces in the lettering. The other idea i was toying with was to use a high heat grade vinyl for the stripes. That way you would get a clean straight line. Just have to colour match it to the paint. Also...

    James' VS SS

I was talking to a mate who works for a graphics design place who suggested using a good quality fine tipped brush and a paint that will dry slowly and "settle" out any brush marks. And also to use a bit of thinners/water (depending on the paint) to wipe up any paint that gets where it...

    James' VS SS

The covers were painted by the last guy, Unfortunately he chose white for the "bananas" which has gotten a bit dirty. Might look at re-painting it or polishing it back to a nicer colour. I am also going to look at paining the Holden logo red, along with the words on the side covers.

    James' VS SS

Thanks guys, I'm pretty happy with it. Didn't cost the earth either, $5k sealed the deal. It is crazy the amount of info that came with it. Got the original sale agreement that the guy who brought the car signed. He traded in his 89 Calais for it! I will try get some better photos on the...

    James' VS SS

Thought i would start a thread showcasing my latest purchase. Saw this car on Trademe here in NZ and went and had a look at it after the auction finished (with no bids). Super surprised at the condition it was in, and even more surprised at the documentation that also came with it. The first...

    Air Conditioning Advice

I am facing the same issue in my new VS SS that i got the other week. Fan won't go at any setting. Relay, Fuses and Resistor are all good. Only option is to get the blower unit out from under the dash. Do a search on here, there was a post about how to do it without removing the dash...

    Restoring Backup

I was having a read too, it seems to be an issue with USB as the static tends to travel back through the USB port which disrupts the data being sent to the printer/cutter. Using serial will most likely solve the issue, but also reading they suggested that if the humidity is below 25% then the...

    Restoring Backup

Ah 7Zip, the great "open any file" program :) Glad to hear you found a work-around for the issue, and you have access to your files! I guessing the backup software had a setting to split the backup into smaller sized files which is why there is so many of them on the external drive...
