Placement ideas for two-way/CB radios with pcs

I sold my VT so I haven't been on here for a while :-) The VT had a nice and convenient spare grommet from the engine side to the cabin side of the firewall up behind the glovebox. All that was needed was replacing the rubber bung with a cable grommet and route the cable through there.

    unleaded or premium unleaded

Now that they're putting Ethanol and other crappy additives to boost oil company profits in regular unleaded I'm sticking to BP Ultimate, which doesn't have it.

Can anyone give me more info about the following error codes?

I get this code too. Easiest way to test is to start the car so you get the digital temp gauge and wait until the car gets to 104 degrees (a bit lower on the V8). The fan should kick in. If it does, the Engine computer succesfully told the BCM to switch the fan on. No fault :-)

    Do all Holden's do this?

Mine does too. I'm buying a new cam angle sensor tomorrow because I have a sneaking suspicion that it's faulty. (at least, the engine fault codes say so and one of the symptoms of it failing is rough idle)

Is there a easy way to get comp. codes on v6

Yes. You can short the right pins on the diagnostic link connector under the steering wheel and read the flash codes on the dash. Go and get a Gregories manual for the car. Has the procedure plus tests to try depending on the fault code shown.

    Which workshop Manual for VX?

The Ellery's manual is full of errors as well. Spelling errors and typos aren't a big deal until you're told to do something to within X mm and you can't trust the book to be right

    VT-VX Hidden Trip Computer

According to Mr Gregories manual, that's the dash module diagnostic code. 00 means no logged errors. :-)

    Ask the EX-Holden Technician

Cam angle sensor A question for the experts that's bugging me :-) The PMU diagnostic on my VT V6 says it's not getting a signal from the Cam (not crank) angle sensor. I've had the crank angle sensor replaced a while ago because the car was no-go. What are the symptoms of a dud cam angle...

    Ecotec V6 Motor Stalls

No, they're all sealed and can't be replaced. If the battery dies you have to get a new one programmed. Around $90 from a locksmith that has the programmer.

Check Power Train - Air Bags

I'd get an auto electrician to have a look at the wiring between the various engine/body modules and the even check the dash module itself. Usually if one of the modules has problems reading its sensors or communicating with the others it will flag a fault. Some are self clearing once the...

    VT Radiator price

Sounds a bit much just for the radiator. I had the VT V6's done and it cost me $491 total from Natrad. (genuine Holden replacement). Was there other work they recommended that's part of that quote? Replacement of hoses, thermostat, etc?

    Ask The Copper

Also, In WA you can drive the most unroadworth pile of crap of a car all you like as long as you keep paying the rego. Only thing that forces you to get the vehicle checked is the lottery-like chance of getting a yellow sticker or letting the rego run out...

    Leaking radiator - argh!

Hi all. After having major overheating problems with my VT V6 (and having new hoses, new heater tap, the thermostat and radiator cap replaced as well as the radiator cleaned out) looks like I'm already up for a new radiator - argh! Symptoms are bubbling from the overflow when the car has...

Placement ideas for two-way/CB radios with pcs

Sure can... that's why I use it for the Tait two-way :-) In my car the mobile phone speaker is under the steering column.

Placement ideas for two-way/CB radios with pcs

Yeah... bit of both. :-) Car to car on the UHF CB, probably 3 or 4 kms. Range increases the higher you can make the antenna (I use one of these http://www.rfi.com.au/rfiproducts/mobileAntennas/CD900Series.pdf) mounted just down the bonnet a bit from the standard car radio antenna. Unless...

Placement ideas for two-way/CB radios with pcs

Placement ideas for two-way/CB radios with pic Hiyas. After much messing around I think I've found the best way to place two-way/CB radios in my VT Commodore taking in account ease of use (can see all the screens and hit all the buttons) and safety. (i.e. nothing'll fly around in a crash)...

Alert: Proposed New National Road Rules & Amendments

Interesting point 4.49 (Rule 225) about radar detectors. If the proposed rules are implemented in WA then radar detectors will become illegal here :-(

Vx coolant temp to high? sender problem?

My VT does something similar. The digital dash temp guage goes up as the car warms up but the analogue dash gauge gets to just under half way and sits there. Only noticed because I thought it was strange that the thermo fan didn't kick in when I was idling at the lights on a stinking hot day...

    weird overheating problem

Labour was $165. A tow and miscellaneous bits and pieces (a new hose or two) and about $60 worth of coolant :o All adds up :-)

    weird overheating problem

and just to close off the thread... got my ride back from the mechanic with new heater tap, thermostat and a freshly cleaned out radiator :-) It was a $555 lesson in learning to keep a closer eye on the cooling system. No engine damage, thank God.

    weird overheating problem

You guys were right, it was the thermostat stuck closed. (Grr!) Mechanic reckoned the radiator also needed a clean out so has sent that away to be done and once it's back (and only then, he says) he'll pressure test it to make sure it holds pressure. I suppose he wouldn't have bothered to rip...

    weird overheating problem

Hmm. I've cooked an engine before... little Ford Laser, dramatic loss of coolant due to a hose burst. It got so hot steam was coming out the sides of the block! :w00t: It was suffering from a dramatic loss of power and started pinging. Had the hose repaired and it's been going fine ever...

    VT Radio Antenna

Replacing the antenna is a royal pain. You need to take off the left front wheel and the inside cowling bit to get to the antenna and unscrew it. Then, after pulling out the old and putting in the new antenna, you need to somehow feed the antenna cable through a grommet (which isn't straight...

    weird overheating problem

hi all. I've got a strange one with my VT Commodore with the 3.8L V6 engine. Driving it along and the temperature gauge shot up from about 1/2 to full hot (with the alarm on the dash!). Naturally after breaking out into a cold sweat, seeing my life flash before my eyes once or twice and...

HELP, my AUTO VT is Stalling!!

Just thought I'd add two bobs worth... My VT series 1 had the same symptoms - random stalling. The CAS was replaced but the symptoms continued. Mechanic had the car for three days and eventually called a few auto sparkies in to check everything over. Turns out it was the cable going into...
