Well i know this is a touchy subject but with most people on here being be P-platers they mite have something to say.
Now im not sure what its like for everyone else but in my home town of Albury we don't have much to do,espeicialy if your under 18. Now what we used to do is gather up at a servo and chat and maybe go for a cruize around and maybe have some fun (not known by the police) but now we are not aloud to sit at the servo and we get constently harassed by police, they tell us to move along.... so we do as were told and go for a cruize..but now there bringing in a law that P-platers arn't aloud on the main street after a certain time (can't memeber the time but it was like 11pm or something) and there also thinking of bringing out this stupid law about no passangers.
I mean really what the hell are we sposed to do... if your under 18 you can't go clubing and even if you could the new rule is your not aloud to change pubs after 1:30am so you get bored anyway.
But if your under 18 these are the rules:
1: No Drinking
2: No driving with passangers
3: No driving on the main street
4: No parking at the servo
5: No parking on the main street
6: No going to a sex shop to use up the time
7: No clubing
8: Not aloud to have a turbo/supercharged car even if it is some lil 4cyl...
9: Not aloud to do ANY engine mods to your car..
10: (soon) No driving after a certain time of night..
11: Not aloud to drive an 8cyl
12: not aloud to have loud music period.
13: Not aloud over 90km/h so there no practice for overtaking
They think that these stupid rules are going to lower the death toll... i doubt it.. like the power issues they have, it's not about the power of the car its how you drive it... if you have an 8cyl commodore and you don't have your full licence and you go acting like a dick head then you deserve to lose your licence but it doesn't mean everyone has to be punished...
Basicly they want you to sit at home and do nothing.....EVER!
If we decided to go for a drive, they follow us to make sure we don't stop or do anything stupid... its beyond redickulas..
I do understand that there are alot of di<kheads out there that do stupid shit in the middle of town and im all for them being punished...but not everyone has to be punished...I think personaly there taking this whole P-plate thing way to far and there on a bit of a power trip....
anywho thats all i can think of for now and if your town has any stupid rules share them with us for a laugh
to me it sounds like you's are being punished for being idiots, stop whinging
gee. you have it harsh, all i have is 0.02 alcohol limit. I thinks thats it really
Well I think u should just move outta Albury.
Done, problem solved!!!
Even if ur over 18, it still isn't an exciting place. . . . .

the old p-plater topic
it dont mater where you live, or what state you are in, being under 18 realy does suck, (im 28) i know what is' like not having anything to do, but i was lucky enough to join the navy at 18, and the boredom thing was sorted out for me
but rules for p-platers, well they gotta do something, mainly because p platers just dont know how to handle the cars, (not all p platers, a majority though) so while you feel it's harsh, and nasty realy someone out there is realy looking out for you.
y ou may complain now, but when you are my age you will look back and say thank christ for those rules i would have killed myself back then if i was alowed todo that.

First of all could you edit your post and changed 'aloud' to 'allowed' please?
Ok, that said and the pedantic stuff out of the way, have you considered a youth group, where you could sit around and play games like snakes and ladders, draughts or other such interesting games?
Yes I am kidding. Allow me to address each issue in my opinion:
1: No Drinking Meh, this goes without saying and no one should drink/drive
2: No driving with passangers I can see where they are coming from, the old show off with your mates in the car nonsense, but the reality is it's a stupid rule, because you may need to give someone a lift or pick up a relative, plus there are plenty of tools out there who will drive like a moron with no one in the car.
3: No driving on the main street Oh what a brilliant idea! Let's all take the back streets instead. What is the point of this?
4: No parking at the servo Sitting on the fence on this one. From the servo's point of view, sadly groups of kids can sometimes cause problems and they do deter the grey set from pulling in, as they are scared of a group of kids. You might steal their hubcaps, or grandpa's hat. On the other hand, if your just sitting there chilling, what harm are you doing?
5: No parking on the main street So if you need something your expected to park and walk in the rain/blistering sun? Where is the logic in this one also?
6: No going to a sex shop to use up the time This one needs no explanation. You might bump into the City Major and embarass him/her.
7: No clubing I assume they mean baby seals! You simply can't go into a club if your under 18 as your dad may be in there trying to pick up.
8: Not aloud to have a turbo/supercharged car even if it is some lil 4cyl... I do agree with this, I don't think new drivers should have powerful engines.
9: Not aloud to do ANY engine mods to your car.. Apart from your drug sales, where do you get the money to do the mods anyway?
10: (soon) No driving after a certain time of night.. This is to protect you from the boogey man who comes out after dark. Or you may get frightened in the dark and wet your pants.
11: Not aloud to drive an 8cyl Refer point 8.
12: not aloud to have loud music period. Now they are pushing my buttons. If it's too loud, your too old. I wonder how many deaths have been caused as the music was cranked?
13: Not aloud over 90km/h so there no practice for overtaking Yes, I agree with this one, there used to be a speed limit on P-Platers.
C.
I do agree with many of those when it comes to under 18's.. Including drinking, sex shops and a few other things.. Minors do have more restrictions placed on them..
That's how it is.. No arguments at all, but I generally agree with Sashyre's post above.. Certainly not 13.. But most sound reasonable..
I'm currently a P plater and I agree with some of the rules regarding P platers. Driver training is just not good enough to allow P platers to drive high powered vehicles, I was taught in several different cars, in many different conditions, including on a race track at high speeds, was forced to do a defensive driving course as soon as I got my Ps. I don't believe I could handle some of the performance cars on the road, in particular the new SS models, WRXes etc.
However following on from this, alot of P platers save as much money as they can for that three years and either mod the shit out of their car, or purchase a performance vehicle. They are then in a car they have NO IDEA how to drive, they've been driving a four or six cylinder N/A small or family car for three years and then shove themselves into something they're not ready for.
What we need is better driver training before, during, and after P plater lifetimes. The learning for driving never stops, I may be able to handle my 6 cylinder wagon, but how would I do in that Clubsport? Probably kill myself in short order if I don't pace myself. The problem with P platers is they don't pace themselves, they get their licence and believe they're the best driver in the universe and everybody else is shit, hell I went through that stage too, even though it was drilled into me with some high-powered yelling that I wasn't during my Learner period.
However the current restrictions do need revision, in particular curfews(some of us work night shift) and high powered vehicle laws. Perhaps required detuning for performance/high powered cars, with an engineers report supplied, and a tune-up can be done at each 6 month interval of your P plates, slowly increasing power.
However whinging about the stuff you can't do below 18 is quite useless, clubbing and drinking laws are there for a reason, to protect minors from abuse. They are not there to spoil your fun, but to protect you, just as all laws are, even though some are quite silly in their usage, application and wording.
Most people have set opinions of P platers which have been heavily influenced by the media. Note how they will always report a P plater's accident before any others, or a P plater speeding fine for that matter, the rest in order of severity. This further influences the legislators to further increase limits on P platers, as media pressure increases legislation must proportionally increase to maintain public opinion. This well shows that the restriction on P platers is not arbitrary limits, they are made by the mistakes of other P plate drivers.
If you want the limiting legislation to decrease, write to your local MP with ideas for decreasing them, Hell have your parents write it if you don't think he/she will listen to you. Now I've written an essay here, I really should stop.
I will spell how i like...everyone gets the drift, so unless it hurts your eye's or causes seziures im sure no one REALLY cares if i spell "allowed" as aloud...its doen't really matter...Originally Posted by Sashyre

All I can say is that there are alot of bad eggs out there on the P's making it look bad for the rest that are on P's and those bad eggs need to go back to driving school and the same goes for the rest of the bad eggs that aren't on the re P's.

if your under 18 u are classed as a minor so i agree with the no drinking and all that jizz......
also with the servo a group of under agers jus sitting round bored deter people and boredom also leads to detruction fights and abuse its as simple as that i deal with this every single weekend and its normaly jus a small group who wreck it for everyone else ....
also the law about high performance cars should only apply to certain people....or at least have a special course u must pass so u can drive a high performance car....
also vl walky chick the point about an 8 cyclinder driver on there ps acting like a dick deserves wats coming to em is a crock of shi.t.....so its ok for a fully licenced driver to do it.....or that some lil wanker in a hoted up rice box can hoon around and be a dick .....i own a vlt and a v8 high performance cars and i treat them a hell of alot beter then most of my mates in ther dead stock commos
and its not the car that kills people its the person behind the wheel that kills people
wrecking VL COMMODORE 5 speed

Touchy indeed, posted by mistake before adding.
It sounds a bit stupid, sounds as though they can't solve the problem any other way so they're pumping in the regulations.
Why dont we just raise the legal age to do things to 35, we're not kids anymore, we're adults. Some ruin it for the rest of us, but now we can't even do the things we've been waiting for.
It has nothing to do with causing an accident, it has to do with ignorant ********'s blaring their shit doof doof music so loud that they don't hear emergency vehicles. Usually when music is so loud it affects your concentration also.Originally Posted by Sashyre
As for passenger's, i beleive vic is bringing in similar laws allowing just one passenger. Makes sense to me for the first 12 month's.

Not to me.. My parents aren't around much. Heaps of my driving is carting my brother and sometimes his mates around from A to B. It's safe to say, that driving wise, I'm like his parent..
Not to mention driving from A to B with my girlfriend, so on and so forth. Those things should not be outlawed..
You have to remember Minux that Vic is the only state where P platers have to be 18 to get their P's.. 16.5 in SA+NT, 17 everywhere else. Vic P platers deserve a bit more flexibility because we are adults when we receive our P's..
We also have the lowest under 25 death toll.Originally Posted by Shounak
Driving with one passenger is fine, your brothers mates should find their own transport. Or perhaps just MAYBE public transport could be used.
Unfortunatley these topics can't be discussed with P Platers because they will always disagree.

I'll disagree with having to give up the right to use my car as transport. I can understand completely where they are coming from.
But not being able to give a carload of people a lift around is just.. Thats going way too far.
I agree and disagree with putting a ban on passengers in p-platers cars or just a limit of 1.
I agree because if your being a d*ckhead in your car and loose control and crash you dont put a car full of people at risk, you also arent peer pressured directly from the car.
I disagree because sometimes you need to take people to places and car pulling reduces pollution of the atmosphere.... or we can all walk or catch the bus...
Banning passengers will porb make it worst though, im more influenced by my mates in other cars whoa re driving with/following because they want to race or do a burnout which you have to beat.... (not saying i do)
I say limit it to 1 passenger each (i dont care i have a ute)
Some people say less talk more action, i say more torque less traction.
Its so stupid! there will always be idiots but why make all 'P' plates suffer? I just got off mine and have never been caught doin anything wrong on the road! when u start gettin responsiblity is when u start to grow up.. and they're treating young adults as children - its just going to get worse!
And the part about high performance cars?!? It dont matter what u drive, ANY CAR in the wrong hands can be fatal!
How many lives have been lost(yes the minority you say), its just as easy to become part of the minority,
Car full, P plate driver,no exp, peer pressure, alcohol, loud music etc can put you there, most of you have the it won't happen to me attitude, and can't see past your youth and inexperience,(yes i know your invinsable)
Five people in the car and doof doof is hardley concentrating.
To kill yourself in a prang is one thing, to kill 4 mates is another.
Now think into the future and you now have kids, how would you feel about it
