For some reason when I try to put text into my signature I get the following error:

Your signature contains too many lines and must be shortened. You may only have up to 2 line(s). Long text may have been implicitly wrapped, causing it to be counted as multiple lines.

There wasn't even much text and it was not over 2 lines.

What's the go?

Read what I wrote, my signature wasn't over 2 lines and definantly was not over 1000 characters.

i got that same error before i donated and then after i donated i put my sig in.

Can you even put a one word sig in or it's not even letting you do that. If that's the case then it's sounds like you have to be a donating member.

I just had my signature changed and cant change what they put there.

Bloody annoying. No offense but my 80 characters of 80 bytes aint going to cost alot of bandwidth at your end. It's just a male ego thing I think to go automatically changing peoples signatures. Talk about trampling the freedoms......... if the admins didn't like something, why not just remove signatures, instead I get a "save your shopping list for your My Ride thread" ......... under my name each time I post, most annoying.

Yes I can put one word in the sig but that's about it.

Actually it's not about bandwidth. If you read the original thread that talks about the sig change, some sigs take up the whole screen and that becomes a problem.

But if you can't even put a one line sig in then that's something i was not aware of.

hence when people put in long things (donating, mod or standard member - no one is excused at the moment) such as what your car has in it.. or what you plan for it as Cheboorator said it just takes up too much space.

your sig is more or less a reminder to stick by..

lol bandwith? As stated its about preventing people making massive signatures that force people scrolling through a thread to only be able to view one post per screen. Just because some sad little man feels the need to list each and every car modification with one line per modification underneath every single post they make. There is a place for that, called the My Ride section where you get your very own thread, so all people need is to link their thread in their signature.

Its about keeping the site easy to read and navigate. 2 lines and 1,000 characters is plenty!

finaly after figuring out what i did wrong, it was a word wrap issue, yay me, im a goose

anyways, on my test user account (which was this one incase you didnt know) im able to get 4 lines, now properly, with no charachter limit.

4 lines, it's 4 lines of test on the sig display line. spaces between lines are included as a line,

Well I don't know what's wrong with my signature but I cannot put more than 10 characters in it without getting that error.

what if i was to put a limit on the amount of charachters per line, say 200 charachters, anymore it word wraps and goes to a new line, this still leaves the 4 line limit, but prevents insainly long signatures?

Only donating members can have pictures in their signatures anyway.

You don't seem to understand there is *no* need to have a signature longer than what is allowed.

If you don't like it, run back to all your little forums that you run yourself. Simple. You don't run this forum (luckily), so what you deem acceptable or unacceptable actually means sweet fa. Its garths site, so its what he deems acceptable and unacceptable that actually matters.

With the amount of sooking going on I wouldn't be half surprised if donating members / site sponsors are the one's which will enable the use of signatures.

And what forums might these be, 10 members? When your doing with 10s of thousands of people it's hard to get that happy medium.

darren owns this site, not me, im just the long standing administrator that has been here since the dawn of time, and the begining of the internet.

im kinda bussy with work at the moment, over the next few days im going to sit down and work out exactly how many charachters will enable people to put links to their my ride's. so if it ends up as 1 line, with a link to the my ride then sweet. it will probably end up heading that way. that way only donating members can have the extra special signatures.

I have a 32" monitor, big signatures still piss me off.

If you do not like the rules, no one is forcing you to stay. Even better, if you want to bitch about it we can add you to the no signature group if you like?

Darren, I have to say, it would be great to see donating/sponsors only having sigs, would certainly save a lot of whining
