Question posting in really old threads (aka "exhumation")

Hi guys, just a suggestion for the forums, i don't know if its possible/practical but...

Every now and then when i'm going through recent threads etc i notice someone has posted in a really old thread (over 12 months) or one that's obviously dead . Often these "new" posts are not addressing the OP's original post, or are asking a new/unrelated question etc.

How about a time limit be set - say after 3 months (of no posts/activity) the thread could be automatically locked/closed?

people just need to look at post dates, and make the big adult decision whether to post their useless type or not.

i believe we tried the time out on closing threads, proved to be more a hinderance from memory.

Old threads are often the best , internet forums should never be closed down or locked up. It should be forever

sometimes people do add useful information to old threads though. if we tell people to search, yet they can't ask their own question or add input into the threads they find it wouldn't be very practical

if someone digs a thread they'll cop an earful of "READ THE DATE FFS" so they probably won't make the same mistake again anyway

if someone digs up a thread asking for help, because they have a problem similar to the OP, then i dont care, i do that myself sometimes. if its someone posting to answer a 6 year old question, or post some irrelevant comment, usually to raise their post count, then theyre stupid

I meant "closed" threads in that people couldn't post in them anymore, just read only (i.e. closed threads would still show up in search results etc).

Anyway it seems the consensus is we don't change it, so it don't matter. I guess there's already enough rules we have to follow.

Old threads are like archives often retain usefull information that can be used again...Quite frankly i'm guilty of thread digging my self not that i give a hoot..if i find something usefull in a old thread then so be it...i'found alot of usefull stuff in some of the older threads since i,ve been on site.
