    Default my thoughts

The site isnt too bad but i think it could do with a few changes.. i dont like the colours much, but thats just my personal opinion.. others may like them. and i think that the way you reply to posts isnt set out very good.. the quick reply box should always be on because its annoying to have to click that button in another post to activate it.. or just move the button closer...

they are only little things but i reckon they'd make a difference..

Its good to get feedback from members and I'm sure admin will take into consideration the issues you have raised.

But speaking strictly as a member and not a mod, I quite like the colour scheme, I know its a bit generic but I find its very easy on the eyes. A few other sites have black/ dark coloured background/ colour themes which look good at first, but I really can't stand them, they get hard to read after staring at them for a while. I also dislike overly colourful forums IMO they look tacky and much like someone has vomited over the screen .

As for the quick reply well I dunno I never use it, here or any other forum. I think anything that makes people take an extra second or 2 to think about what they are going to post is a good thing, also makes the spammers have to go to extra effort.

Julie, I agree re the colours on this site. I use a camer forum with a black background and white writing and it strains the eyes after a while.

Speaking of suggestions, a little while back I did make on about adding a link to someone's VB garage in the menu that opens when you click they're name in a post.. I've heard nothing back..?

    Thanks for the feedback.

I would soo love to be able to simply enter text into the quick reply rather than hit the reply button first up. I've looked and looked but don't see anyway obvious to change it.

Hey ozute, I think thats a great idea. I can't say I can recall seeing the suggestion though, I searched through your posts and couldn't find it either, did you perhaps email or pm admin or another mod? Glad it was brought up again anyway, because I think that would be a really useful feature.

Actually I do recall seeing something about that, I am pretty certain I replied as well. Let me try and dig up the email.

    Edit:

Nope I can't find it so obviously I didn't send a reply unless I was doing it during work time which is somewhat unlikely.

In short it isn't possible at this stage, a new vB version is being released soonish which is a little different and all hacks such as the garage, arcade etc will need to be re-done to be 3.5x compliant.

All good I actually sent it through the 'contact us' link at the bottom of the page, from memory it said something about being sent to the webmaster. Anyway, no probs, you're on the job now

With relation to the VB Garage, will it be possible to make some sort of order ie alphabetical or date? When I view it now, the names and 'last activity' dates are all askew :my:

I think a feature of VB Garage which would be good would be the ability to browse it by model (ie VY, VZ). If it already has this then please don't shoot me as I've only really had a very quick look at it...

    Darren,

I am the part owner of hotholdens.com and in our admin control panel there is an option under the Forum Control / Manage Forums, that simply lets you turn on and off the quick reply box for each different forum. Are you sure you do not have something like that?

And i also found something else that I reckon you should have. Signature pics! I tried to put one on the other day but it just came up with the URL of the image.. and i havn't seen anyone else with one. So im guessing that they arent allowed..

Just a question but have you ever considered switching to Invision Power Board? Its really easy to use and its set out really well and there are endless options and addons to choose from. Thats why most people who start forums choose to use it.

If you ever did switch and you needed any help setting it up or anything id be glad to help you out

Oh righty after plenty of digging I found the 'Quick Reply' option, how I missed it is beyond me. Within the option either 'Yes' or 'No' it did mention the following

However, this will be at the expense of the usefulness of the Threaded and Hybrid view modes, as the system will not know to which post a user is replying, so the threaded view will become non-sensical.
This is setting the option to 'No' which I have done.

It's not too difficult to change it back if it's going to cause problems.

Signature pics I believe have been bought up previously, something I read on one of the vB sites which scared me witless about security and malicious code although having said that given we have 2 different usergroups I reckon we might be able to do something for the members with more than 10 posts. Someone who wants to run maliciously run anything like that won't be around long enough to try it out.

On the IPB front, we were originally using IPB back in the olden days, see the link below
    http://web.archive.org/web/200309191...ommodores.com/

WOW!! Look at the member count :my: funny it somewhat resembles what we have today.

A bit of background which has been covered in a previous thread or two, we started off using phpBB then to IPB and finally to vB which is where I think we'll stay for a while yet if not for the sites life. I found some admin functionality for IPB nor phpBB was there yet vB had it, sure they may have caught up in the 18 odd months we've been using vB but the support was pathetic for IPB although I must admit the 3rd party support for phpBB was fantastic.

vB in my opinion has always been a leader when it comes to forum software, it's always been commercial and much quicker than any other developer to bring out security fixes etc.

IPB could have very well cleaned up their act but that always sticks in the back of my mind, the technical on the vB front is superb, you send through a support ticket and get a response very quickly.

I am sure there is going to be typo's or some very nice grammar problems but I'm in a hurry so don't mind me
